Had a lil mishap today heading out in the Beast.... last couple days I've been hearing a tap tap tap of a rock in the tread but being a Newport fancy pants I figured its a pebble and she'd throw it soon. But Baja doesn't do pebbles... we do nails apparently. Well I go out today and stop for some beers and happened to hear a hissing sound.... awe shit... walk over to front tire and its losing air fast.... so gotta act fast and get her back in garage before can't roll.... if I leave her on the street she'd be stolen in 30 minutes lol. Made it back and tomorrows task is finding a guy who'll come out and plug a tire. This'll be interesting like all things are down in Baja. Cheers View attachment 1281175 View attachment 1281176
… Better to have the tire taken off and taken to a tire shop and patched from the inside.., never have been a fan of plugs🤷🏽‍♀️

Appreciate your opinion.... I think I had a tire plugged once and seemed to be ok as I recall but down here you wanna do things right cause ya don't wanna be on side of any roads broken down. [especially at night] I'll find a guy who'll lift it in garage, remove and go patch interior before bringing it back. Got an issue with garage floor being on a slight angle so might have to move truck to flatter ground maybe 50'.... you think that'd be an issue damaging that super flat tire?

Don't leave home without it...

Lil update after 2 tank fulls down in Baja running Regular 87 but adding your stuff with each fillup.... no pinging and runs strong as can be. I think its around $4.60/ gal now so all good. She does hate the around town erand runs though .... much prefers the toll road at 70. Guzzler either way but for that sound its all gravy baby!

… it would be best to find a mobile tire guy with a compressor on his truck who can inflate the tire before rolling the truck back ..,if it really does need to be rolled back 50 feet???… a real mobile tire guy will know how to handle the situation👍

So correct.... try getting this done stateside. Its MexiCAN not MexiCANT. $50 USD in 10 minutes. he told me he does 20 of these on a Saturday... potholes have been berry berry good to him

Yup, I was doing that math too....He was too dang busy hustling off to his next stop to do much more than work.. Said he's got a brick n mortar shop as well as 2 mobile units. And here I was ready to counter the ole "Well this $350 tire is shot and we can sell you a replacement" like I got up north. Nope, he said these tires are all new and we don't plug. Impressive.

It’s $50 for “el gringo”, $10 for everyone else.
Fair point ....I will attest to Gringos being taken advantage of for sure... so there is that.... bad apples anywhere unfortunately.... gotta have your wits about you and it helps to have a smoke show Mexi gal in your corner translating .[no pics sorry].. perhaps more in Baja but we've all been taken advantage of from time to time. But again... Legit point.

Oh yeah taking this very slowly.... I got nothing but time and I moved to get a slower chill pace. Realestate activities are very active presently it appears. You can actually spend $1M on a condo just south of KM 38 surf break I'm told, lol. They tell me laws changed and you don't have to marry a Mexican anymore. There's a large medical building going up down by the big Jesus statue and thats to handle all the international folks flying in for plastic surgeries. Not the Baja of the 80s.

…Damn…40 years since I motorhomed it down there a lot???…So I guess change is allowed to happen..,
…The change in Rosarita Beach…really blows me away???…

Too soon to really comment much on whta Rosarito represents but early take is its a very tight knit community where folks tend to be friendly, outgoing and happy. Just a short drive to the south are beach neighborhoods where the retired gringos tend to settle feeling safer behind walls and wanting community features like pools, jacuzzi, weight rooms etc.... I even played shuffleboard down there with friends recently. I chose to try more up in south Rosarito village where I can feel the local vibe best. Meeting all the resurant owners slowly and most seem to be LA rejects and guys who got deported for crimes who settled around these parts not being allowed back. I can walk a short block and be at fine restaurants, food trucks, taco stands and yesterday I had my first goat stew. Lobster season here next week so I'll be grilling lots of bug. Just was told there's no PPV here its all free tv.... UFC, boxing etc.... we'll see about that... kinda hard to imagine how they get away with Dana White not getting his cut.

Thread bump.... its been a couple months with The Beast In Baja and I'm getting a lil itching about her overall look.... I got a Rosarito upholstery guy doing interior headliner and bench seats for $300 usd.... now unfortunately I'm beginning to think how cool she'd look in a fresh paint on exterior since she has very little dents if any. I'll post a pic for the fellas to refresh and ask some of our esteemed participants what color paint you think she'd handle best knowing we have zero vegitation down here and dust galore.... truthfully that doesn't matter cause she's garaged mostly so have at it fellas ... I've been online searching the 1987 F 250s paint schemes and they are all very boring... if we do her we do her fun and sexy right fellas. Let me hear from ya! @bonesfab ab

… I knew you were going to do it… The temptation is just to hard to resist… Not exactly pennies on the dollar but way cheaper down there…👍
… Don’t let what the locals do to their trucks get into your mindset… Got to keep in mind some of the locals have a reputation for kinda poor taste…😱

Put some 80s stripes with a 20 footer paint job on it and call it good. You are going to Kustomize your way to an empty garage with nothing but an oil stain.

laurdy Laurdy... I cant.... and due to party mode cant understand that last statement.... please clarify

Just re read... so if I make her purdy she might be stolen? Man that is the truth.... but now that I'm finding rythm here over last 75 days my presumptions might've been a bit off. Fair point however.

That thing looks perfect the way it is, especially with a nice interior . Last thing you want to do in Mexico is bring attention to yourself !
Well there is truth in that statement for sure.... just throwing color ideas out to the color guys we have on the site... we have so many amazing boat and truck talented color guys here...this particular Ford truck is so limited while the K5 Blazers have such cool colors and this vintage Ford seems limited it seems....

Seriously, since it lives in Mexico, I would NOT paint it. A nice shiny paint job will be a magnet for thieves. Right now it blends right in and doesnt draw attention. Perfect incognito mobile. 👍😎

Nope. Leave it. Unless you have good insurance and Want it stolen!

BTW...

What theft deterrent do you currently have on it? I could hot wire that thing and be gone in 30 seconds right now.

Says the guy who did that crazy gold flake job on the K5.... well, when you're right you're right.... It must be my SoCal living too long making things perfect. I'll just put myself in timeout over in the corner for a bit ;)

Ha love it....I actually dont lock it much .... I'm just out in daylight hours. using a driver for nightime fun. I went to Home Depot and locked keys in ignition and it has those smoker wing windows from the era.... I have long arms and was able to reach in and get to keys 🤩.... I do have a key attached to the frame underneath. Thankfully I have a secure garage for nightime.... I'd never leave The Beast outside overnight here for sure.

You guys following will get a chuckle... I was coming out of a bar on dirt road entering paved road where folks haul ass on a blind corner .... I apparently had it in 1st which I never use cause its just too fucking short a throw... I got on it crossing the lane and my buddy said later he watched the tach and I hit 5-6k and he thought I'd throw a rod spinning tires.... 1st gear on this thing is apparently reserved for yanking tree stumps or something.

It's called "granny gear". And that's exactly what it's used for, or getting going towing a Massive load. Never use it for normal driving.

So just to reiterate...

I could steal that truck in 30 seconds.

I'm sure a pro would be even faster.

I had too many comments/ questions going on someone elses thread so moving my Leaky Bitch thread back here where it belongs.... I took some better pics recently as I continue trying to determine the source of my oil leak. Those still watching will notice some fresh drops coming from "Bell Housing" but when I got my head way up n there I'm thinking its just slowly running down from the oil pan seal. So at this moment my hunch is oil pan seal and earlier thoughts of it being tranny oil are gone. Its just engine oil running down & back as one of our more esteemed members stated ealier.

Buy some engine oil dye and a blacklight. Some yellow tinted safety glasses will help too.

This is the best way to diagnose a leak.

I don't know about the 460 5 speed trucks but do know the 7.3 Powerstroke 5 speed trucks suffer from the upper tabs on the flywheel cover cracking causing the cover to rub a hole in the oil pan by the crank. Check out that cover.

That thing has been leaking forever! 😱
Pretty coated eh.... but strange that the engine oil levels havent changed in the 4 months I've had it. Of course as I've stated I only drive maybe 3 times a week and short distances. The oil pan under truck shows very little quantity as well.

I'm curious what the oil on the engine oil dipstick looks like?
