Awesome project! Can't wait to see how it runs with the new motor. I might have missed it, but I assume you have hydraulic steering?

Now that the motor was completed, I needed a stand to hold the motor and it needed be able to roll around in my garage and transport to the dyno shop. I was able to get my hands on an old bbc block and start building a nice stand.

I started drawing all the sheet metal parts on the computer and cut them all out on my laser. The square tube I had on the shelf and was able to get it all cut on my saw. Came together pretty quick and of course it had to be powder coated and then a fresh set of casters bolted on. You can’t have a piece of Teague jewelry on some janky old stand!

Pick up day… man was that a nerve racking drive home!! I can’t say enough about the guys at Teague, honestly you won’t find customer service like that ANYWHERE!!

It must be beginners luck lol. Im an off-road guy with a killer set of tools and fortunately that benefits us do it yourself type boat guys! More fabrication stuff is coming, I promise!! Thanks Len, I’m always stoked when you post more updates on that beautiful Schiada! Can’t wait to get these things together this summer.

The highly anticipated day was here!!! A trip to Westech Performance Group to hit the “Lie Detector Room!” Special thanks to Steve Brule and Troy Goldie, they’ve always been my go to dyno guys. Motor ran absolutely flawless, zero issues and made great power for a single carb pump gasser. Should move the Vector around just fine.

I had to run it with the dyno headers to collect proper air/ fuel ratio data for tuning purposes. I’m sure there’s a slight difference, but I’m not chasing a number… just reliability and driveability. We also did some carb spacer testing on the dyno as well and found that the Wilson Manifolds 2” tapered combo made the most power for my combination.

With all the extra ponies going in the boat, hydraulic steering is a huge concern of mine from a safety aspect. I decided to pull the trigger on the IMCO complete transom assembly with the integrated steering rams because it was the cleanest route. I didn’t want to drill a bunch of extra holes in the transom for all the bracketry and lines to go through the transom. I’m big on simplicity and cleanliness. IMCO makes some really nice stuff that’s for sure. I also bought one of their helms and control valves. Looking forward to some one finger steering!!

Are you posting this build on Insta? I swear I just started following you. Vectors are timeless and you're correct about Foxs don't bother showing up if you're package aint pretty. Hahahaha

Not really posting too much of it on my IG. This place is more directed at the people who care about boats lol. We’ll have to meet up this summer in Parker!

Boats are a good escape for me, all I do is talk about trucks all day, every day for a living. I grew up going to the river and have raised my kids the same way. Definitely something we really enjoy together as a family. The kids will have plenty of seat time behind the wheel of the vector that’s for sure!

Very cool build . Motor is bad ass. Just heads up. I did the imco on my vector and the outdrive only goes up half way on trim. Not like a bravo which goes all the way up. I had clearance issues on the drive which was to close to the ground for exit on driveways. I know you have a dolly trailer so might not be a problem for clearance. I don’t know if imco made any changes on that. Mine was done 2016. I had to raise the bunks on mine and eventually got a new trailer. Also you will love the hydraulic steering. Anyways love the build just everything snowballs and it isn’t cheap lol 😂

I appreciate the heads up, ill have to look into that. Shouldn't be to big of a deal with that dolly trailer at all if that's the case. Post up some pics of that Vector!! I want to see what we're dealing with here!

Thanks for the compliments. Nope just running regular lower. I should have bought one when I did all the upgrades. It would have definitely helped on the clearance issue.

December 2nd i brought the boat home from Havasu to start the winter project. I pulled the boat from the dolly trailer and put it back on the old beat up dual axle trailer. Time to get to work!!

Once I got the boat home it was party time. I immediately started stripping the boat. Big plans, little time. But I’m super motivated to get this thing done. I had been collecting all my parts needed for the build throughout the whole summer, so I guess you can say I’m prepared too.

Got the boat all stripped and installed the new Imco transom assembly. The guys at Teague were nice enough to throw together a mock-up tall deck block with a crank and heads so I could set up the new motor mounts and verify outdrive alignment. Now we’re getting to the fun stuff!

The original motor mounts were very tall in the boat and in my opinion just weren’t gonna cut it in terms of strength or looks with over doubling the amount of horsepower. The goal was to make a nice set of offshore style motor mounts to stiffen up the boat. I was able to track down this pretty nice motor plate from Cp Performance to use as a good starting point. I picked up some 6”x6”x1/2” aluminum angle and roughed out some motor mounts. The clock is as ticking on getting the motor mounted, I had an appointment to drop off the boat at Teague for new tail pipes to be made. My son and I got everything bolted up with perfect drive alignment. The motor mounts and motor plate will be getting dolled up when everything comes back out.

To take things a little further, I would run some long plates instead of those two flat washers on the outside of the stringer to spread the load. Would look cool too, if you gave them a little shape to match the stringer top edge.
Or maybe that’s already the plan.

Thanks Len! I tell him all the time that we’d never be able to have cool toys if we had to pay someone to do the work for us. The younger generations are caring less and less about using their hands for work and I try to teach him the importance of that.

That motor mount you made is nice. What are you using to cut it? Looks 1/2"?
