Yet literally nothing about that boat is Porsche....Merc drive, likely a Merc motor, Livorsi gauges, and on and on. 96 mph my ass. Is it good looking, sure....
Throwing this out there to see if there is any interest.
Used Iron Eagle SBC 165cc runner heads with 300 hours on them. Heads are fine, but valve guides are shot.
Included with heads are Ferrea 1.60" Inconel exhaust valves, Ferrea 1.94" stainless intake valves, Comp Cams 5/16 guide plates...
If it starts and dies shortly there after it is fuel related. Check the mechanical pump that feeds the VST. It may be on the fritz. Cleaning and flowing the injectors would not hurt either.
Anybody have any experience with this shop out of North Carolina for marine repower? Good, bad, other? Looking at either a long block or turnkey tall deck package.
It will not throw off the tune.
It will not allow you to turn a significantly larger prop.
I would lay money down that there would be virtually no 'in the boat' measurable difference.
I use it all the time simply because its the closest station. I probably have 80,000 to 100,000 miles or more on my truck using this stuff (229,000 total mileage). Zero issues. Can't say I get better mileage but I don't track it and have not done an A to B comparison. The fuel is clearer...
There is a lot of talk about timing here, which is fine and valid, but that is not the main problem. If you have 8-12 deg of initial that should be fine. Thousands of SBC work fine with this. You have a fuel issue. The motor is going lean when put into gear. If you had wideband installed...
That is correct as others mentioned.
On a separate note, does anybody know the correct plug size to cap off the VST return port?
What fitting would be needed to convert the return line that goes into the return port to something else and go back to the fuel tank?
Don't chase slip numbers. Prop the boat where it will just be shy of max HP rpm with a heavy load. There are always trade offs. One prop may be the best for max speed, but suck out of the hole. Others may have great midrange and holeshot but not hit the max speed seen with other props...
With the water level at 640' MSL or so there will be no problem. North of Willow Beach stay approximately mid channel and you will be fine. Don't hug the shoreline. The water, as mentioned, is super clear and will appear shallower than it actually is. There is one section that is about 3...
That is exactly what happened as I outlined above. At idle all was normal and even moderate throttle it was good. At about 4000 rpm all hell broke loose for about 3-5 seconds then it got out of the 'bad zone' and took off. He was able to monitor the fuel pressure under load (if I recall...
Aaah....details help. From the sounds of your issues I don't think any tweaking within the MEFI would help if it was working correctly before. I was helping a guy tune his MEFI 1 454 jetboat a few years back and it was breaking up badly at a certain rpm. He was convinced it was the tune. I...
