I saw that guy on Havasu, but he was on a seadoo, right at the widest point of the lake and he almost turns right into the path of another boat minding his own business.

I BELIEVE.......if my memory serves.......IN MOST CASES.....the vessel under sail without aux power engaged has the right of way over vessels under power. IN MOST CASES.

i would need to research, but some exceptions exist and 1 deals with sailing in a shipping lane and having to yield to the large cargo ship.

Before the pan out I was thinking the cargo ship could have avoided the whole thing by waiting another 200 feet to make his maneuver…but then it became clear that he couldn’t.

Blow fags as my dad used to call them. He would get so pissed when they would exploit the sail has right of way angle all the time and just make a tack right in front of you.

I agree but regardless, never insist on the right of way. It's like getting killed in a cross walk, but you had the right of way.

Them Lakers are not usually very maneuverable.

That one seemed like it was pretty maneuverable. Of course it wasn't as big as the Edmund Fitzgerald.

Saiboat knew the laker was coming but he panicked and got caught in irons (stalled) into the wind.
He knew he had to tack right -- but he physically had to start moving left first.
Freighter captain knew this and did an excellent job - and he turned way sharper than I thought he could (probably because he didn't slow down).

If I was a pasenger on that sailboat, I would have been looking for the engine start switch as soon I saw there was a problem.

Port Huron, MI. Heading north into Lake Huron. Lucky it wasn’t one of the 1000 footers that come through there. video may have had a different ending.

I've seen videos of those big bulk carriers sucking canals dry and displacing the shoreline by more than 50' as they pass by.

My brother lives on the St. Clair just south of where this video was taken. The water levels will fluctuate and the current will actually reverse itself under his dock. Never witnessed a significant change. Ironically, I have seen the Cuyahoga go past his house in the past.

Commercial traffic always has the right of way over pleasure craft. That includes Blow Bote captains however taking out a sailbote or two does not hurt my feelings.

I have witnessed all kinds of interesting sail boat shit in my 11 years with "Four of a Kind."

International Shipping Channel. You are not to restrict the movement of shipping traffic by any means...homo rag flapper or otherwise.
