These FH and fire mains are older. I doubt they will meet the newer GPM requirements per NFPA for a Class 1.

Well, I'm in CA and my water works, so I'd blame the local municipality who's job it is to maintain that particular system.

The state is not out of water, Pacific Palisades is out of water....While I think he's a piece of shit, I'm not sure I can lay blame on Newsom for this

My 3000W Honda EU 120V runs everything but the AC., it will circulate air but no compressor. I have a Diesel light tower but I've never used it. 7.5kw. the Honda has worked well.

Good generator, had mine for years as my house back up generator. Now I have a Firman dual fuel as my back up.

Would more water have stopped the Palisades fire? Probably not. Would more water have mitigated the damage? Probably.

Government incompetence is a huge issue. The only positive I can see coming out of this is that more people will understand that the government will not save them. They need to prepare themselves.

Biggest lessons I have learned from watching this and the Trump assassination attempt... is just that. When things go sideways or shit hit the fans... you are on your own. Govt incompetence is out of control... we have a broken system. Govt is no longer working as intended, and has not for a long time.

Yes I was home for the YL fire. A house burned on my street. They also lost water pressure when the pump house was burned in the fire and stopped working.

Not sure if you're talking about Palisades or YL. But both lost water at the hydrants.

The tank built in Hidden Hills is metal and not open on top. So 99% sure it's not for helicopters.

People don't understand this, the pumps to refill the tank aren't designed to pump 100k+gpm to sustain a firefight.

An emergency genny doesn't need to power the whole home. If some forethought was used....all the 120V essentials should be put on 1 buss. Fridge/microwave/a few lights, a few outlets. That's what you NEED. Then a little 3500W genny can tie into that one buss and run everything just fine. Get cold?...turn a few lights off and plug in a small electric heater in the room, or get a jacket.

I have my deal set up like this and it works fine...the few times I've had to do it.

I have 8 bbq size tanks. I look for expired tanks on trash night day as I'm walking the dog. Acquired 3 that way. Then just exchange at wally world or homedepot. I am a cheap f'er. I have some gas also.

Put a couple big ass pump houses on the beach. Fireboat #2 at the Port of LA can pump 50K gallons/minute....and fit the horsepower to do that in a boat. Put 10 or 20 of those powerplants with pumps on the beach, with draw tubes hanging from buoys 1000feet out, like Chevron does to empty tankers. Run those to all the hydrants in the high fire zones. Fire starts? Send a boat out to uncap all the draft tubes and have a crew fire up all the pumps.

Hell, with 10 or so, that's 1/2 million gallons a minute....you could probably just put sprinkler heads on all the fire hydrants and all the manpower could stay home watching TV.

I'm responding to the idea of having engines drafting directly from the ocean, now what you are talking about could be set up but you also have to realize that sea water can't be pumped through residential water systems and would need their own water main system
