Not really, it has to do with apparatus staffing, hydrant location and spacing and average water pressure, now I know without water there is no pressure but that's not part of it.CLASS 1 Means the Fire Hydrants don't Run Out of Water !
Get Rid of That Fucking Mayor & Fire Chief...![]()
These FH and fire mains are older. I doubt they will meet the newer GPM requirements per NFPA for a Class 1.CLASS 1 Means the Fire Hydrants don't Run Out of Water !

Its just crazy to watch it advance in a direction opposite the wind... obviously there are wind shifts, but probably fuel and the fact it is so large it started to create its own weather system.I stayed home today.
This is right now. Looks like it’s starting to come over the hill towards the valley.
Carbon got rocked
Latigo is ok right now.
I don’t expect much out of NewScum he a POS
No water in the fire hydrantsThis fucking politicking finger pointing is ridiculous. No man made intervention, save for a cloud seeding rain storm is going to extinguish the flames. Maybe we should ask for those responsible for the man made hurricane that wiped out the east coast a couple months ago to start one over here ASAP? Where is Rmarion? He knows who started the Hurricane....
I guess people just need someone to point and blame and monday morning quarterback. From what I saw on the live feeds yesterday at palisades, there was literally noting you could do to contain or keep up with the spread. There were firefighters everywhere. Water sprayed from the ground seemed to be doing nothing : (
Easily. So far they are estimating $10 billion in damages. I’m betting it will be $30 billion by the time it’s done.
Demand is the reason for lack of water. The gravity water tanks only hold so much water. When you have fireman using fire hoses and residents using garden hoses the water doesn’t last forever. No water in the fire hydrantswho do you blame for that? Newsom always seem to always have plenty of money for homeless and all his other wasteful bullshit programs! No water for the fireman to fight fires with are you kidding me actually plenty of people to point blame. View attachment 1467466
Well, I'm in CA and my water works, so I'd blame the local municipality who's job it is to maintain that particular system. No water in the fire hydrantswho do you blame for that? Freddy Fire, fully contained

Good generator, had mine for years as my house back up generator. Now I have a Firman dual fuel as my back up.My 3000W Honda EU 120V runs everything but the AC., it will circulate air but no compressor. I have a Diesel light tower but I've never used it. 7.5kw. the Honda has worked well.
rocking out to bad religion while watching the fires?
The water districts job is to keep up with increased demand and prepare for these situations.Demand is the reason for lack of water. The gravity water tanks only hold so much water. When you have fireman using fire hoses and residents using garden hoses the water doesn’t last forever.![]()
Next we can bitch about why the planes are grounded because they look like they've been driving around michigan for the last 10 years after drawing salt waterWe have this thing called an ocean...
Biggest lessons I have learned from watching this and the Trump assassination attempt... is just that. When things go sideways or shit hit the fans... you are on your own. Govt incompetence is out of control... we have a broken system. Govt is no longer working as intended, and has not for a long time. The water districts job is to keep up with increased demand and prepare for these situations.
Aren't you a Yorba Linda guy?
Do you remember the 2008 Freeway Complex Fire.
They ran out of water in Hidden Hills after the neighborhood had complained to the water district for years about low water pressure.
Oh and the water district had just built itself a brand new, super expensive building.
Soon after the fire, they built a big holding tank at the top of Hidden Hills.
Would more water have stopped the Palisades fire? Probably not. Would more water have mitigated the damage? Probably.
Government incompetence is a huge issue. The only positive I can see coming out of this is that more people will understand that the government will not save them. They need to prepare themselves.
Yes I was home for the YL fire. A house burned on my street. They also lost water pressure when the pump house was burned in the fire and stopped working. The water districts job is to keep up with increased demand and prepare for these situations.

BTW. The water tank in the hills is for to refill the helicopters. If it’s windy like today they wouldn’t fly.The water districts job is to keep up with increased demand and prepare for these situations.

That is a great song and even better albumrocking out to bad religion while watching the fires?
My wife just called me and said another burning in Acton. Both Super Scoopers playing follow the leader, refilling on Castaic and dropping on the 1 hour old 50 acre Lidia Fire on Soledad Rd, along with two B463 Retardant dropping aircraft.
Not sure if you're talking about Palisades or YL. But both lost water at the hydrants.BTW. The water tank in the hills is for to refill the helicopters. If it’s windy like today they wouldn’t fly.
Isnt Fremont Canyon right there off the 241 by Anh Hills going to Santa Margarita? All the fireman do on public hydrants is to make sure they operate. The company I retired from does static, residual and flow tests on private hydrants yearly.
People don't understand this, the pumps to refill the tank aren't designed to pump 100k+gpm to sustain a firefight.Demand is the reason for lack of water. The gravity water tanks only hold so much water. When you have fireman using fire hoses and residents using garden hoses the water doesn’t last forever.![]()
YesMy wife just called me and said another burning in Acton.
Wonder if they are talking about the same one![]()

I have 8 bbq size tanks. I look for expired tanks on trash night day as I'm walking the dog. Acquired 3 that way. Then just exchange at wally world or homedepot. I am a cheap f'er. I have some gas also.An emergency genny doesn't need to power the whole home. If some forethought was used....all the 120V essentials should be put on 1 buss. Fridge/microwave/a few lights, a few outlets. That's what you NEED. Then a little 3500W genny can tie into that one buss and run everything just fine. Get cold?...turn a few lights off and plug in a small electric heater in the room, or get a jacket.
I have my deal set up like this and it works fine...the few times I've had to do it.
I explained it earlier in this thread, it would be very difficult to draft sea water, basically not worth itWe have this thing called an ocean...
It would be difficult, but not $20B difficult.I explained it earlier in this thread, it would be very difficult to draft sea water, basically not worth it
I'm responding to the idea of having engines drafting directly from the ocean, now what you are talking about could be set up but you also have to realize that sea water can't be pumped through residential water systems and would need their own water main systemIt would be difficult, but not $20B difficult.
Put a couple big ass pump houses on the beach. Fireboat #2 at the Port of LA can pump 50K gallons/minute....and fit the horsepower to do that in a boat. Put 10 or 20 of those powerplants with pumps on the beach, with draw tubes hanging from buoys 1000feet out, like Chevron does to empty tankers. Run those to all the hydrants in the high fire zones. Fire starts? Send a boat out to uncap all the draft tubes and have a crew fire up all the pumps.
Hell, with 10 or so, that's 1/2 million gallons a minute....you could probably just put sprinkler heads on all the fire hydrants and all the manpower could stay home watching TV.
Surprised it took that long. The military down here in San Diego has been helping out with fires for years.Just heard on the news that the U.S. Navy is sending helicopters with water buckets in to help with the fires.
