If you have any questions about S Utah reach out. We absolutely love it but it won’t be for everyone.

My wife and I are im Saugus, and I would really like to go to Agua Dulce or Acton. She is on board, but she is just a little spoiled with how close we are to all the amenities of SCV and for that reason holds her back. Along with our family is no more than a 10 minute drive away, but she's worried about being out there for days at a time and me gone at work. Slowly moving towards getting out there. She's also in the movie industry so it will increase her drive a bit
We were in Saugus as well and with all of the new construction we’re happy we left. I’m only 10-15 mins up from our old house(Plum Cyn and Bouquet Cyn) and actually easier to get to the 14 now. Our youngest(son) goes to Saugus HS so my wife is in town 2 times a day minimum…since he plays Lacrosse as well. The peace and quiet is worth the few extra mins of drive…I’m also in the Motion Picture Industry.

Is that before or after Ritchie Valens?
Had a headliner done in pacoima. Took my kid to the Richie Valens house as well as the RV skate park while we waited.

Umm…. Yeah not a tremendous area or place I would feel comfortable raising a family. Good news is the park was pretty exciting saw a couple drug deals go down and lots of thugs wheeling motorcycles by the homeless people in the park…lol

Yep! That park is right down the street from my work. Definitely sketchy as fuck. Thankfully I live 38 miles east of it.

In Idaho, Idahonian’s hate Californians! When I explain that my Grandparents lived here, my dad was born here, my mom lived in Sandpoint and I lived here once before they relax a bit. In Tennessee they seem to welcome Californian’s but always state, “As long as you checked your California Politics in at the Border!”. Funny thing is that 90% of the people in each place seemed to at one time lived in California!

Lots of good and bad to consider. Especially if you are retired like us. Health care, internet availability, weather, state taxes, vehicle registration costs, utility costs, proximity to relatives, airports and of course property costs. We are Blessed to be able to split our time between Tennessee and Idaho. Love both places for diferent reasons.
Makes sense, I live in CA and I hate Californians too

Weird 🤔
Not one mention of OC, interesting 🤫
Thats easy....you can't touch OC with 800k....maybe Stanton or Santa Ana. No better than the LBC. 😂😂 Sounds like dude just needs to get out of LA County. I'd mention Corona, but them everyone would have a shit fit about doing the 91. 😂😂😂

There are lots of nice areas in the Phoenix metro, Scottsdale is nice but there are other options around the valley, lots of homes with RV garages in the east valley or west valley. West valley puts you 2 1/2 hours to Havasu.
I’m at the Sheraton in Phoenix right now. I don’t want to talk crap on where anyone lives but Phoenix wouldn’t be on my list.

If you’re done I get it. But if you go north of Topanga Canyon on the 101 all the way to Camarillo there are no tents. Other than the 1 homeless guy you’re gonna see anywhere.
If it’s tents and homeless Phoenix ain’t it

I hear ya. I won’t move unless we all move as well.

I guess I’m lucky. I like where I live and I don’t really run into any issues with homeless or crazy people and there is no better place to make money than here in California.

I’ve been to a lot other states and I just can’t see myself moving at this time. Might change later as I get older and grumpier. 😆
This is where I’m at. I travel all up and down the west coast. I live in Norco in a bubble and I love it. I don’t like hot and I damn sure don’t like snow. California is what you make it.

It’s really not. It’s just like saying California is a shit hole I think that’s out of line. I travel all over the west coast in Phoenix now. Talk about shit hole. I’m not waking down the street in Phoenix I’ll tell you that much.

I lived in PHX for 5 years. I could not wait to come back to cali. You pretty much have to write off 4 months every year, it’s too hot for anything.

I’ve been traveling here for work for 5 years. It’s changed so much. Traffic crime homeless. I’ll try to take a video from the Sheraton to the training center in a few minutes

I was there about 10 years ago, it’s definitely changed a lot. I’ll be out next weekend for the waste management open.

Utah was pretty but soooo cold. None of the apprentices had anything bad to say about California. There’s a lot of envy of what we make in California and what we have. That’s union construction though. We make about double with way better benefits and a lot more work. Thinking more about it. One of the apprentices brought up seasonal depression and said it was a real thing. I’ve heard about that in Washington but not Utah

I'm on board with C-Ya, I was a snowbird for many years. Finally sold the North house been full time 18 months ago. A lot of folks said last summer was hot (2023). Felt fine to me. Hot to me are summers in Lake Havasu 115-120 although I like that too. The ocean side has a nice breeze most of the year.

If your residence is built properly Hurricanes are not a big issue. Have some gas for the generator, life is good.

Like C-Ya mentioned the begging is off the hook. If you feel the need, hand them a job app for a local store:)

I didn't read between page 1 and 3. Anyways if you are coming to AZ. I dont know what kind of people your family is but if you're not into the night life scene and more into the outdoors the Prescott area isnt bad. On the outskirts you can find some acreage with a large house sometimes a shop. Theres decent non public school options. We have all the major chains here for your day to day needs. Outdoor life in the area is awesome plenty to do. And if its not here then its probably 4 maybe 5 hours away. And if you have family/friends to see in California its not far away.

Boating for us at Powell 3.5/4 hours away

Mead and below mead is probably 3.5/4 hours away.

The dunes are 5 hours away

Snow Skiing is 1.5 or 5 hours away.

Montana is out of the question.
Dream right there for me. The more remote, the better!

We went to Whitefish last summer and are heading back again this one. Daughter's in laws built a beautiful home there, it's more like a lodge. Can't wait to go back, actually thinking of selling the river house and getting something there. Daughter and SIL are renting a place for 6 weeks, gonna go hang out for one of them.
I can't do the Winters there though, fucked up back.

Unfortunately SW Colorado got Califonicated about 20 years ago. There are pockets of the old Colorado left though if you look.
You're right on this. The bring they're Calif politics with them then complain when Co starts looking like where they came from. I was in Calif almost all my life but I knew I couldn't retire there. Bought property here in Co. 31 years ago. I just go with the flow and am thankful that the locals let me in and accepted me.

" I don’t want to talk crap on where anyone lives but Phoenix wouldn’t be on my list."
You kind of are...
Staying in a fairly decent hotel, that is situated in the middle of an urban center, and quantifying that experience as the same as the surrounding. This would be the equivalent of staying in downtown LA from another state, and telling people in Belair they live in a shithole.

Perspective is lost when your sphere of influence is only as vast as your immediate view.

Same can be said of most places, and in different ways. My last home was in Alta Loma, with a beautiful view of the valley below from my home and pool deck. Drive south a few miles, and some of those areas creating that great view, were areas I wouldn't want my wife or kids going to. Good from far, far from good.

I live in Pompano Beach, Florida. It is between Fort Lauderdale and Lighthouse Point. Which is next to Deerfield Beach and Boca Raton.

My only regret about moving to Florida is that I didn’t do it 10 or 20 years earlier. I truly LOVE where I live. So much to do. But let’s be real. It has its negatives. It’s crowded. We have beggars at most on ramps. Theft was invented here! Lol

Overall, it’s the lifestyle that I have embraced. I rarely wear pants or shoes. Sunglasses, shirt, shorts, and flip-flops is my uniform. I enjoy my bubble that I live in. I’ve put a mere 50k miles on my car in 11 years of use. I rarely drive it. My golf cart is my vehicle of choice. I only work if I feel like it. Lol
SWFL same uniform different bubble.
I’m in Sarasota and the city is very aggressive about policing the panhandlers. Occasionally you see them at intersections but you bringing that up just made me realize that they have been few and far between around here lately.
I was born here but for the last 20 years I’ve spent a lot of time in Idaho where I have a working farm. Summer is a no brainer for me it’s all Idaho and lately I’ve enjoyed being up there in the dead of winter as well. Pure happenstance that I landed in these two states, born and raised in FL and knew nothing about Idaho except it had the climate I needed to grow and ship the crop I wanted.
In both states there is a noticeable air of freedom that’s hard to describe. Wacky ideology seems to have a hard time taking root here. Not that there’s a shortage of wacky people but the background seems to stay more even keel.
I’d think FL would be a hard transition for anyone used to the arid west. The humidity can be relentless from May through October. Offshore fishing and boating in general make FL hard to beat though imo.

$6K in rent and 3 boats ?

Sounds like you can afford a more " safe " area in So Cal ?

My daughter rents in San Marcos on the border of Carlsbad for $3500 for a 3 bed 3 bath with their baby and they love it. Nice area 15 min from the beach.

I get it about LB and the Crime and homeless.

Good luck to you and your family.

That’s my point with threads like this and why I don’t really care for them 😉 every place has it’s good and bad. That’s why I always say California is what you make of it just like life in general

Not true. West slope Colorado is still very conservative. Pockets like Telluride and Durango are liberal. Problem is Denver votes in all the liberals.

I thought the title of the thread was “ my wife is almost done with the chili” I’ve been looking for pictures of chili and corn bread the whole time.
Seriously, it's funny what our eyes see sometimes. There was a thread in last week or so that I thought the title said something about boobs, I opened it up and was totally let down 🤣

When we sold our first house in Burbank o was solid on moving to Agoura,Newberry Park,T.O and we looked at almost a 100 homes. I wanted a least a acre so that really cuts the list down fast, which mostly was in T.O and most of those homes were in the equestrian area and for whatever reason at the time the school rankings were low and the wife again that down…not to mention the 101 freeway is a parking lot. Ultimately we landed in Agua Dulce on 3 acres and have been happy. It’s mostly conservative like minded working class people that look out for each other(small town vibe). I remember one night doing a run with our daughter and she said “ it feels like we are moving to another state “ which it really does. But I drive 20-25 mins and hit the SFV and you are reminded. It’s only until we pull the trigger and get out of Cali..
Do you ride dirt bikes? I ride with a couple guys out of Agua Dulce.

Well you could hit the gun store buy a new gun walk out with it and feel safer no permit needed to carry either. And you can buy any modern handgun they sell doesnt have to be on an "approved"list.

But your in downtown phx just like any downtown it sucks.Thats why we live on the outskirts
