Phoenix this morning. Hotel is nice view could be better. View attachment 1330333 View attachment 1330334
The downtown Sheraton.

Fuck that, it’s full of homeless and drug addicts down there. Has been since the 70’s. No matter how much money the city and state has poured downtown over decades it has always been full of crime and problems. City of Phoenix lost over 100 million dollars on that hotel alone as no one would build it but the city.

I’m not sure there is any “perfect” city or state. Maybe perfect neighborhoods or areas, but all cities and all states have their issues. Like most things in life, it’s a compromise.

I heard Kansas is nice, seems pretty inviting!
I saw on the news recently that Topeka was offering migrants $15K per family to move there. Ive driven through there and it seems OK but must be something about it where people don't want to move there......

Kansas sucks. Wind blows all the time. No mountains. Feedlots everywhere so smells like shit.

Youre speaking my language Sir. I have already been scoping that out. Hehe

Not sure a SoCal beach boy would survive the winters? The wind must be Brutal as well.

Long Beach
I was born in Long Beach my kids were born in LB. As soon as my kids graduated college they left LB. So I moved too 75 miles north to a small town in San Bernardino 4K elevation in the hi desert just below Wrightwood 2.5 acres fenced newer house + 2K' sqft warehouse in (92371) 800K would buy you a mansion. Now I would never move back to a large city.

That would be awesome. When I was single I was looking up at that area. I would totally land there if was just me!

Knoxville and surrounding areas
College town pop 200000
County pop 500000
Mild weather
Surrounded by smoky mountains in almost all directions
Very hilly, very pretty.
Easy airport with AA
Good highways
Not many street lights at night (prob my only complaint, it’s really dark at night)
Nashville and Atlanta 3 hrs away
Beautiful Lakes and rivers all over in every direction thousands of miles of shorelines, high volume of waterfront properties and rural hilly stuff, just look at it on a map.
Right neighborhoods have great schools, several impressive large private schools.
Small town feel with some big city vibe, very friendly, religious, outdoorsy
Public schools start with pledge of allegiance, Univ of Tenn football games start with a prayer.
I fell Winter avg 30-60 Summer avg 60-90
We had winter for a week, 9-in record snow

I moved to Austin from Dallas in 1988 when Austin was awesome then back to Dallas 2012 until here this past August. It reminds me of that a young Austin when it was really awesome. Texas is just too hot in Summer.

Knoxville is pretty darn nice. Mom grew up in the Maryville/Alcoa area. We visited twice a year from MI growing up.

Visited this summer after many years passed. Could not believe the development of the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area.

We will stay put here in CO. Love it when it snows, like right now.

For the original poster, think long and hard about moving somewhere without any family or friends nearby. Got a little experience here. Moved many, many times for job transfers.

Yes but it’s kind of like Long Beach in California. You get to my neighborhood in norco it’s a little different. I also could never pay 6k a month to live somewhere. I thought 3k was bad, but that’s on a 15 yr loan on a house with almost an acre property. There’s a million ways to skin this cat. At the end of the day you have to find somewhere that’s works and makes you happy. I know Norco isn’t for everyone just like BHC isn’t for everyone, but they are two places that make us very happy.

Do you ride dirt bikes? I ride with a couple guys out of Agua Dulce.
Dirt bikes and SxS’s. We’re in the Colony and really like. Even have a deep group of SxS neighbors and we coordinate a Agua Dulce SxS rides almost every weekend. Missing today’s run to the Rivers End for lunch as our son has Lacrosse practice. Hopefully do a get together ride to pregame for the Superbowl.

Vic we should know bye now that if there is homeless in DTLA the whole state of CA has homeless. If someone mentions the homeless in Phoenix. It’s just in that town in AZ. 🤷😂

Since I am killing time waiting for my boating passengers to arrive…….

For my wife and I, one of the things that was foremost in picking any city that we have moved to is, “Access to a Major Airport”. Especially if you are moving away from friends and family.

SoFlo and Orlando have direct flights to Phoenix, Los Angeles, and Orange County. Those are the places my family lives.

One ofthe reasons why I moved from Palm Desert to Phoenix in 1992, is because I was tired of taking 2 flights to destinations, or having to drive all the way to Ontario for a direct flight to some vacation destination.

You will see your family a lot less if it’s a major hassle to get to them.

Sadly, I have had to fly to SoCal with no notice for funerals and relatives hospitalizations, on at least 4 occasions since I moved to Florida.

”Hello, this is Scottsdale Memorial Hospital. We just admitted your daughter. She has been in a serious accident and is currently in the ICU” I received that phone call approx 1 year after I moved to Orlando. I was headed for Orlando Airport within 20 minutes of receiving that call. My daughter ended up being ok, but it was touch and go. I can’t imagine what it would have been like if it took 3 planes to get there.

One negative about flying in or out of Orlando. There will ALWAYS be crying babies on the plane. It’s not like flying Phx to Vegas on a Friday. Just Saying

I'm only 20 minutes from Melbourne International. Security there is about 10 minutes max. Delta and American are the 2 major carriers. Downside there are not a lot of long non stops. Delta goes through Atlanta. For me it's worth checking prices. Sometime cheaper using MLB than Orlando.
Often you see aircraft with no tail numbers or any identifying marking around the hangers. Lot of defense contractors in the area.

Hard to believe we have 2 dem senators, a Dem Governor and a Dem Mayor of Phoenix. Cant see anything but bad in that.

Phoenix is Phoenix and is not representitive of the entire Valley. We put 4 million people in the entire county including Phoenix… the same space that greater LA puts 20 million.

To be fair there’s a lot of CA that does not include the negativity everyone posts about.

@shintoooo posted our areas. @4Waters can show great parts in Simi and Moorpark.

@Tank can cover Camarillo, Ventura, Oxnard, Ojai etc.

Down towards San Diego I’d say Vista/Fallbrook/Temecula are red blooded areas.

Now if you’re just done with CA politics, gun laws and overall policies I totally get it. You’re never going to change that and the cost of living in this state.
I was born and raised in So Cal. Lived in a total of 12 different places. Including Carlsbad, Camarillo, and Morro Bay. All 12 of those places now have a Democratic US Congressman. No thanks. When I lived there all 12 were Republicans.

They met at Harvard and were together for a very long time. They are still very friendly.

As JBS said, their political beliefs do not gel well with other cities in the Valley but Phoenix is significantly different in racial makeup than are other areas. They are however both smart and formidable political operatives who know how to shake a room down.

Interestingly she is Jewish, but kept her ex-husbands Hispanic name.

The ”Durango Curve” area makes Compton look safe. Nothing but bad news once the sun goes down.

Hear, hear on being close to a major airport. We are 30 minutes door to door from DIA. Most of my friends are in SoCal. We get back often, makes life much easier.

The other thing as one gets older is close access to a level one trauma center.

You have a heart event, stroke or a major accident or fall, a level 2 or lower trauma center decreases the chances of a full recovery. For example Havasu Regional is level 3.

I have lots of friends who moved after retirement to get away only to now be moving back to major cities.

Health care is amazing today, but only if it is nearby and readily available during urgent or critical need.

Hi, Ellen Winder with TeamRDP Realty. We made the move 22 years ago to Southern Utah and never looked back until we met River Dave, then had to move to Havasu. St. George is beautiful with 13 golf courses, 2 lakes, Lake Powell and Vegas only a couple hours away. It truly is a beautiful place to live. Give me a call if you would like to see what is on the market. I can get you tickets to the Parade of Homes in St. George on 2/16-25. I am licensed in Utah, Nevada, and Arizona!

Airport's or such being close is important for some, both for family and work. We're an hourand a half from the big Phoenix Airport, but out puddle jumpers run a few a day to LAX and Denver. Hospitals and Healthcare are a big issue. Any real specialists are down the hill, and so are the level 1 traumas. I think Flag is level 2, but good cardio care I hear?

We have no family near, and knew no one when we moved. We flew blind, but it worked for us.
