It was so nice back then but you know what happened to it, became too much for me to handle so we sold out and took up residence here in Havasu. Best move we've made but now its becoming too much like what we left only a smaller scale but conservatives still reign haha. The rest of the US Im not too sure of thou
My last truck became what you describe, to much $$$ in it but thats being a car guy right ?
A few pics of it, now resides in Phoenix, had a 502 for power

Nice. I'm in Mission Pendejo, I mean Viejo. But have had places in LHC for last 30 years. Built a house with RV in Havi in 2001, just before the boom started.

It was one of those projects that was fun once it started to go back together, but I had to change shops during paint and again during assembly for various reasons. It took 4 years from start to finish. Well worth it at the end. When I went to pick it up from the interior shop I almost shit myself when I saw how nice it was. Interior guy thought I wasn't happy cuz I didn't say anything for like 5 minutes as I just took in everything he had done. Truth is, I was over the moon speechless. The pics don't even do it justice. Rarely does that happen on these kind of projects huh?

Where I live, there are multiple Car Shows every weekend. Most are casual events. The cars can be all over the range. Some are trailered to these events, while others are driven.

As I get older, I find myself wanting to get involved in this fun hobby. What keeps me from doing it, is that I don’t want to be constantly wrenching and working on whatever I buy. I want it turn key and reliable. Does this exist with this type of hobby?

I just want to be a casual participant with a cool ride that I drove to event. When I am not taking it to car shows, I am cruising the beach cities with it.

I really like Rat Rods, but they sound like you need to be a master mechanic to own one.

What would you suggest that I purchase? Ideas?

I enjoy the car show life and I'm actually in a car club The SULTANS of Long Beach. It is key to have a reliable ride, I did have a 65' T-bird for a short time that was my father's. But now I have a 37' Ford with a LS 5.3 VORTEC and all the bells and whistles. I can drive this car across the country with out any worries

If it was me, and I had the room for it, I’d be looking for a Vert Lincoln with suicide doors. I don’t care how many hundreds of thousands your friends spent on their SuperCar, a convertible Lincoln will get more attention

That was my High School truck. Almost identical but with centerlines, later Colorado Customs. I had no issues with the ladies lol

SummitKarl, what do you mean by "do" a Mecum auction? Buy a car or sell one. I have some experience with them and I might be able to give you a little friendly advice.

Got the Cadillac back from the shop today. Really came out nice. Wheels, tires, new fuel pumps, exhaust, CAI, tune, tint and an apple CarPlay conversion. Although not old old (it’s 13 years old), I suspect it will eventually make the grade for car shows.. you don’t see too many of them around.

If you have a garage, convertibles and t-tops get you out of those 30 minutes of rain.

There was a great vintage Ferrari repair shop at the Scottsdale airport 20 or so years ago. You need to find a place to have your vintage stuff serviced.

Personally, I like seeing factory original cars. Or mildly souped up ones. Basically period correct. Takes a lot more thought and work than tossing an ls in one.


Don't get me wrong, an ls motor has its place but I don't think it's in classic cars and hot rods.

FWIW……… The reason why I have a few extra bucks is because I don’t buy 250k beach cruisers. lol (However, I would consider buying a regular Defender and taking a Sawzall to it!)

It started with YouTube. Lol

Once I started looking at Jeeps, I found all sorts of things that appealed to me. Such as:

Jeep Clubs (SoFlo Jeep Club)

Jeep Meet n Greets twice a month

Jeep Club trips to The Keys, Everglades, and Jeep Beach at Daytona Beach. 1000’s of Jeeps attend

Jeep Club barbecues. They also enter the local parades as a group.

There are also Jeep car shows.

The ability to have open air for 5 people. 7 if I threw in a backseat on a Wrangler Unlimited

The ability to tow my boat trailer with my fun car

There is no shortage of Jeeps for sale. However, I’d rather find one already modified to my specs. 2014 or newer 4 door Wrangler with half doors, aftermarket bumpers, 35” tires, soft top, 3.6 motor, hitch, lights. Top it off with a bright color, and we’re good to go. There is a chance that I would have it wrapped to match my Golf Cart. This then throws into play St Patty’s Day Events and Christmas Parades.

Speaking of parades……… My wife and I will be in The Pompano Beach Yuletide Parade this Thursday in our Golf Cart. Next year……. I hope to fill my convertible Jeep into a 6 passenger Elf Mobile.

It depend what your goal is. If you are in it to win trophy's check out the "classes," find something that fits in one of the smaller classes and make it bad ass...

An old co worker has a 2000's era truck that he shows in a pre-something or other class for trucks and wins trophies almost every weekend. Not a lot of "custom" to it besides paint and interior. He also has a whole display that he sets up.

We have this 2003 50,000 miles on it bone stock and won a show with it.
