Tom, we were neighbors lol, we lived in El Toro over 20 years, loved the smell of the Orange feilds back then!! It was so nice back then but you know what happened to it, became too much for me to handle so we sold out and took up residence here in Havasu. Best move we've made but now its becoming too much like what we left only a smaller scale but conservatives still reign haha. The rest of the US Im not too sure of thou ☹️
My last truck became what you describe, to much $$$ in it but thats being a car guy right ?
A few pics of it, now resides in Phoenix, had a 502 for power

Nice. I'm in Mission Pendejo, I mean Viejo. But have had places in LHC for last 30 years. Built a house with RV in Havi in 2001, just before the boom started.
Wanna get out of Taxifornia myself for all the obvious reasons, but not ready for AZ full-time yet. Getting close though. Closer with Gov Newscum's bullshit:oops:
Thanks for the kind words on the Camaro.

It was one of those projects that was fun once it started to go back together, but I had to change shops during paint and again during assembly for various reasons. It took 4 years from start to finish. Well worth it at the end. When I went to pick it up from the interior shop I almost shit myself when I saw how nice it was. Interior guy thought I wasn't happy cuz I didn't say anything for like 5 minutes as I just took in everything he had done. Truth is, I was over the moon speechless. The pics don't even do it justice. Rarely does that happen on these kind of projects huh? ;)😁

I'm Tom, great to meet you

Where I live, there are multiple Car Shows every weekend. Most are casual events. The cars can be all over the range. Some are trailered to these events, while others are driven.

As I get older, I find myself wanting to get involved in this fun hobby. What keeps me from doing it, is that I don’t want to be constantly wrenching and working on whatever I buy. I want it turn key and reliable. Does this exist with this type of hobby?

I just want to be a casual participant with a cool ride that I drove to event. When I am not taking it to car shows, I am cruising the beach cities with it.

I really like Rat Rods, but they sound like you need to be a master mechanic to own one.

What would you suggest that I purchase? Ideas?

I enjoy the car show life and I'm actually in a car club The SULTANS of Long Beach. It is key to have a reliable ride, I did have a 65' T-bird for a short time that was my father's. But now I have a 37' Ford with a LS 5.3 VORTEC and all the bells and whistles. I can drive this car across the country with out any worries 👍

If it was me, and I had the room for it, I’d be looking for a Vert Lincoln with suicide doors. I don’t care how many hundreds of thousands your friends spent on their SuperCar, a convertible Lincoln will get more attention

I that would be cool but don't put much effort into it, They are still bringing good money on www.bringatrailer.com, I actually intend on doing a Mecum auction just for the experience of doing it. no way can I loose on this one. @C-Ya check out this bring a trailer link on your search. it's top notch stuff with great research and sales tracking features

SummitKarl, what do you mean by "do" a Mecum auction? Buy a car or sell one. I have some experience with them and I might be able to give you a little friendly advice.

PM me when you have a chance. Don't really want to post it all ;)

Got the Cadillac back from the shop today. Really came out nice. Wheels, tires, new fuel pumps, exhaust, CAI, tune, tint and an apple CarPlay conversion. Although not old old (it’s 13 years old), I suspect it will eventually make the grade for car shows.. you don’t see too many of them around.

They all need work, so keep it simple, especially if someone else has to work on it. I like the 1960’s and 70’s cars with 396 Chevies.
Body and interior wise, I’d take Pontiac or Buick with a 400 or 455 with a four speed Muncie.

If you have a garage, convertibles and t-tops get you out of those 30 minutes of rain.

There was a great vintage Ferrari repair shop at the Scottsdale airport 20 or so years ago. You need to find a place to have your vintage stuff serviced.

If I didn't already have one, this Volvo would interest me. Offered by Tarlton Classics. You won't find another make that is in the Guiness Books of record with over 3.2 million miles on its original engine.

Personally, I like seeing factory original cars. Or mildly souped up ones. Basically period correct. Takes a lot more thought and work than tossing an ls in one.

Don't get me wrong, an ls motor has its place but I don't think it's in classic cars and hot rods.

Clarence, I really like what you posted. That car is so cool. I have been looking at the 4 door Jeeps, with that style in mind.

Here is the Jeep version for $235,000 less money.

I actually tried to purchase the Jeep in this pic, but it was already sold. (Just 2 days ago)

I wonder if they actually sell Safari Jeeps, like the one pictured, in the US?

It would actually work for my scenario. Stadium seating for 9 passengers. It’s overkill……. But I like it.

FWIW……… The reason why I have a few extra bucks is because I don’t buy 250k beach cruisers. lol (However, I would consider buying a regular Defender and taking a Sawzall to it!)

Ask Scottsdale Adventure Tours who modifies their jeeps for them.

Seems like an odd choice for attending car shows, but what do I know…?

I hear you…….

It started with YouTube. Lol

Once I started looking at Jeeps, I found all sorts of things that appealed to me. Such as:

Jeep Clubs (SoFlo Jeep Club)

Jeep Meet n Greets twice a month

Jeep Club trips to The Keys, Everglades, and Jeep Beach at Daytona Beach. 1000’s of Jeeps attend

Jeep Club barbecues. They also enter the local parades as a group.

There are also Jeep car shows.

The ability to have open air for 5 people. 7 if I threw in a backseat on a Wrangler Unlimited

The ability to tow my boat trailer with my fun car

There is no shortage of Jeeps for sale. However, I’d rather find one already modified to my specs. 2014 or newer 4 door Wrangler with half doors, aftermarket bumpers, 35” tires, soft top, 3.6 motor, hitch, lights. Top it off with a bright color, and we’re good to go. There is a chance that I would have it wrapped to match my Golf Cart. This then throws into play St Patty’s Day Events and Christmas Parades.

Speaking of parades……… My wife and I will be in The Pompano Beach Yuletide Parade this Thursday in our Golf Cart. Next year……. I hope to fill my convertible Jeep into a 6 passenger Elf Mobile.

Here is a pic from last years parade. I have no dignity! LOL

It depend what your goal is. If you are in it to win trophy's check out the "classes," find something that fits in one of the smaller classes and make it bad ass...

An old co worker has a 2000's era truck that he shows in a pre-something or other class for trucks and wins trophies almost every weekend. Not a lot of "custom" to it besides paint and interior. He also has a whole display that he sets up.
We have this 2003 50,000 miles on it bone stock and won a show with it.

As a result of some unusual circumstances related to a family obligation / necessity, I’ve recently (as of a few days ago) acquired a 2005 Ford T-Bird hardtop convertible 50th anniversary edition. I had it serviced (new A/C compressor and related components, serpentine belt, oil change, etc., including the purchase of a new hard top rolling storage rack with a cover) that I’m now essentially stuck with.

It’s not perfect but, it only has 42,000 miles on it. Not sure what to do with it but, I’m transporting it to our Havasu house next week. Cali licensed and it’s been smogged within the last few months.

We have too many vehicles. If anyone is interested, drop me a PM. Trades welcomed. Feel free to delete this post if it’s crossing the classified line..

If ya want something that most likely will appreciate in value, go Porsche. They also happen to be divine! Air or water, cant really go wrong.

Good looking Jeep. On 40's you need to make sure it is geared properly, even for a mall crawler. When those 40's wear down, drop to 37's and the height to length ratio will be just about perfect. Way better than the look that the other one on the skinny sidewalls.

Those are a bit of a unicorn so if it's mechanically sound I say buy it!

I’ve got the 996 iteration of the 911 (referred to as the scrambled egg head lights version) and they are still pretty affordable. Regardless of the naysayers, it weights 2900 lbs, has 300 HP and has a 6 speed stick. Mine is lowered with H&R coil overs (over an inch lowered) and it is one of the most fun cars I have ever owned. Literally feels like a go cart yet, I’ve exceeded 140 on several occasions and it feels solid.

They sold a shit ton of them back in the day so it may be a while before any significant appreciation is realized.

I’ve had a 996. Complete fun. They’re staying even value wise it seems, maybe the turbos and GT cars are going up for sure. I bet across the board there will be appreciation at some point. The 964 was considered ugly at one point. Since I bought my 964 it’s more than doubled in value…
