Back in business!

For Father's Day I treated myself to a new table, phono stage and cartridge.

I got a perfect/mint condition Technics 1200MK3D from Japan. The table was built in 1997, but it has very limited use. It was shipped from Japan in its original box and packaging.

I paired it with a new Mani 2 phono stage and I tried a ATV95ML cartridge. Thus far the new cartridge seems a little "bright" with too much top end/mid-range. But I still need to play around with it. Until then, I turned to the Jico 44A7, which is a clone of the Shure M44-7. The Shure M44-7 is/was a staple on the 1200.. The cartridge is loud (2X-3X the voltage of regular carts) and the bass sounds great.

Man this one sounds great in streaming in HQ. My oldschool Numark EQ must have went wonky on me and added a bunch of subtle hiss and distortion, so I removed it from the path. And damn the system sounds good. For kicks and giggles I cranked it pretty loud and it felt good. It hurt the ears.

I remember listening to this record as a kid, over and over again.

Best Pumpkins vid ever. I ordered a bootleg double vinyl of the show, pressed on purple vinyl. Can't wait to get it...

Drumeo magazines 2023 rock drummer of the year, Paulina (Pau) Villarreal.
She is now 22.
Her older sister Daniella (Dany, 25, guitar and vocals) and youngest sister Alejandra (Ale, 19 yo, bass and vocals) make up the band called “The Warning”.
They are from Monterrey Mexico.
Remember those names. They are taking the world by storm. I have a ticket to see them at the Glass House in October.
If you are into it, check out the “Pau Cam” videos on you tube. Pau is far and away the protege for singing drummers. She hits the drums harder than men twice her age and twice her size.
Straight up bad ass.

Fast forward to about 25 minutes and watch “disciple” and “evolve”.

They expose the so called country being praised elsewhere as nothing but red neck noise.

As it turns out, not a bootleg at all.

These live recordings, later pressed to vinyl. are a trip as they are not cut with the polished "live record" sound. Instead, they sound "raw". You get the good, the bad and the ugly lol.

On this one, after a few rougfh minutes, Billy and James Iha come to life and you realize just how good they are, especially given the cramped little stage and club where they played.

Awesome record...really digging on it.

New vinyl of Numan's iconic record; way ahead of its time. We weren't ready for this stuff.

Playing around with the system, using the Onkyo preamp, comparing it to a new Schiit preamp I received yesterday.

Numan played the Pleasure Principle in its entirety at last years Cruel World and it was spectacular.

New config on the system. I'm pretty stoked to moving from a collector of "BPC" (Black Plastic Crap) status to mid-fi level.

Schiit released a new pre-amp and I picked one up - but I'm not so sure about it. The preamp sounds nice except there are no tone controls (bass/treble) and it just sounds kind of flat. The oldschool Onkyo preamp, coupled with the standalone Schiit Mani 2 phono stage, sounds much better. So I may send it back.

Thus, I'm still on the hunt for an oldschool Yamaha pre-amp. They are spendy.

In the hunt, I stumbled across another nice Yamaha amp - an M45! If all goes well, tomorrow my Yammy stack will be about another 10" tall!

Totally, but keep the CD's since I have a player for you. Maybe I can squeeze a system into my Infiniti or wifey's Acura and give it to you next Friday at the Gimme Gimme's?
