LG Front loaders with direct drive and ball bearing motors. The biggest capacity LG's have all the right features. Theirs a sticker on them stating that.

Looks like you wax everything in that garage.

Speed Queen will be our next purchase. As of now we have have these Kenmore that I bought used when I was like 22yrs old. So i have had them for 20yrs. And i hope they last another 10. The wife, being an LMT does 2-3 loads of sheets and towels everyday and has for 15yrs! But when I comes time we will buy speed queen. I would like to find a couple used coin op speed queen machines. I refuse to buy any of the new fancy stuff. They have one job, clean my clothes, I dont need a fancy touch screen for that shit!

And yes check your vent, hire a sweeper to come clean it. It's like $150

Looks like the same ones we have had almost 20 years and I bought them used.. probably 15 years old for like $400 delivered.

We see the sparkly touchscreen IOT connected ones at costco all the time but everyone we know who has bought the latest and greatest is constantly replacing/repairing them. Anything short of a transmission or drum going out requires a 10 minute youtube video and $25-50 once every 5-10 years. They are so simple to fix.

Speedqueen or commercial Maytag.

I’ll be forced into an LG WM4500 or GE GFW850 because they look prettier at the new place. I see you as a more practical person than my wife.

Have a large cap LG top loader and matching dryer.

They work well for us.

The auto setting on the dryer is sorta iffy unless you set the control to “ver dry”.

Our next setup will be Samsung since they own my company and we get things at close to cost.

I’m shopping for a new washer and dryer. Wondering if someone has a large capacity set that they love. I have the LG top loader set I bought a while back but I always have to run the dryer 2 cycles for it to get to the correct temp and now my washer has some rust stains in it. Hoping there’s something better these days….large capacity is a must.
We have a matched set of these in Havasu..bought them from city Maytag.

In texas I have the fancy ass LG front loaders with wifi controllers etc. Noisy...I won't buy front loaders again.

Anything and I mean anything but Samsung...

make sure you have a drain in the floor or a pan under it for when it inevitably leaks...

The wife and I had top of the line new HORSESHIT in Orygun before we bought here in Havasu. That crap we brought down from up North didn't even make it a year down here. I stuck the OLD Kenmore stuff back in the hole in the garage that came with the house when we bought it in 2013. It's the OLD dial type, guess what's still humming right along. No more new-fangled stuff for us.

I do not recall where your laundry is in the house but if it has a long dryer vent run, make sure its clean. My dryer has a long run and when it gets built up with stuff it definitely makes the dryer not work as well. Just throwing that out there.
Yeah it goes straight up…I have my handyman come and clean it out every 6 months. Which does help. But it’s still an issue.

I think front loaders are the leakers, not top loaders?
In my experience yes, our old ones leaked from almost day one, in-laws leaked, several sets we installed in multi family projects leaked etc. No experience in the top loaders... I know my LG front loader doesn't leak but its a noisy shit. When they shit the bed I'll go with another set of the Maytag's like we put in havasu last year.

Get middle of the road GE. If they break buy new ones. I’ve had good luck with GE over the last 10 years.

GE had the repair term generally expensive. GE uses a lot of LG parts. I have a GE set.

My buddy had a clogged up vent...bout a 20' run and called me for ideas. I grabbed my small drain snake and installed about 20 zip ties on the end of it...leaving the tails. We shot in the vent from outside the house and worked it while running the dryer. It worked great. We had enough lint come out to fill up a big black trash bag. The zip tie tails created about a 9" flexible "brush".

Notice that regardless of means, everyone who has and old boxy dial type W/D set has had them running for decades with an occasional repair every 10 years and loves them and everyone who buys a fancy dancey sparkly front loader ends up replacing them every 3-5 years?

Yep, they wash and dry clothes, why does a person need some fancy colored, computer chipped POS to wash dirty clothes. Nothing but a money grab as is most things now days.

For those that have a Speed Queen, can you wash a kingsize comforter and do you miss the santize/steam functions?

Looks like capacity is 3.2 vs. some of the front loaders at 5+

A thin king size comforter in a SQ. Otherwise, no. SQ front/top, whether commercial/home washer I think are all under 4 cu ft. Their big hard mount laundromat units are the only >4 cu ft washers. Home dryers are 7 cu ft though.

We’ve never had a steam/sanitize function. Always just basic wash functions.

It's a crapshoot, but logic says, the more gizmos, the more likely a problem. The Mrs. bought fancy red front load LG in 2008, she gave them to her parents when she moved in with me, they have been bulletproof for 14 years. In 2014 my Maytag front loader quit after 13 years, replaced with LG fancy ones. No issues in 8 years, BUT, bought a new four door LG refrigerator, and at the 26 month mark, it died. Dealing with LG was one of the most frustrating things I've ever experienced. Between on hold time, sorry lost your file-start over time, then wait for the fucktard repair guys that they contract with nationally to come out and attempt to repair over the course of 3 months. Four tries, he couldn't fix it, I was persistent enough that they spilled the secret that they actually have a LG employed repairman in my town (he's reserved for VIPs apparently). He came out and redid stuff that the other idiot did wrong, but, the fridge still didn't work. By this time, I'd already ordered a new GE, it was delivered a few weeks after this. Another couple months calling, and I got a check for about $900.00 less then I paid for the LG. It's still on my garage, too shiny to load up and take to the dump... I guess my point is ask about who repairs the brand you are considering. Essentially, after the fact, we found that no local appliance company will touch a LG or a Samsung. May tag, GE, etc., sure. That's going to be a major factor for me next time around. It's kind of like buying a Range Rover or Jaguar, when the closest dealer is 200 miles away. Not impossible, but going to be a lot more of a pain then taking your Chevy to the local Chevy dealer.

LG Anything is complete junk.
Good thing I didn’t buy the LG Anything model 👍

No issue in 4 years but who knows…it’ll get replaced with a Samsung (I get them at cost since they own our company) when it craps out.

Looking around my house, I’ve got way more LG shit than I thought I had…my corporate overlords won’t be happy about that 🤣

I believe the 3.2 capacity is based on the water level in the drum due to .Gov regulations. There are YouTube videos that show you how to increase the water level, therefore increasing the "capacity". It's pretty damn easy and takes about 5 minutes. 😉

Have to say, LG OLED TV's are fantastic! Bought more of them than a person should, lost a couple in divorces and they are still going strong.

The Samsung appliances that came with the home I bought about 3 years ago are all crapping out. Dishwasher, clothes washer and microwave. Researched several brands for replacements and it seems US based appliances have their issues but fixing them is cheaper and takes less time than a lot of others. Yes, the parts are chineasism, but they are much more readily available.

This is what I have and the bottom of drum has huge rust spots now.

Thank you guys for all the pointers. I’m going to look at Maytag and Speed Queen and do some research.

We have their Ice ball refrigerator and love it. I recommended to a friend and they have had nothing but problems with the ice ball maker. They ended up getting a full refund for the fridge and getting to keep it because it was a lemon and they are back ordered.

My wife's Samsung clothes washing equipment has had issues since she purchased them new it in 2020. The dryer has had a bearing going out since day one and the automated controls suck ass (don't provide results as articulated) and are difficult to override. The electric dryer crapped out a couple of days ago, it keeps running even thought it's not providing heat.

She hadn't heard of Speed Queen before ( I had not either until this thread} and is of the same mindset, we just want the appliance to work, be simple to use, predictable / consistent and be durable and last for 20+ years. That is an expectation we are both accustomed too with large household purchases. The wifi / connected BS is not important to us.

Is Speed Queen still building appliances worth the premium pricing?

My 85 y.o. Mom swears by Speed Queen. She just bought new ones for her new "downsizing" house. The big box stores don't have 'em. You have to go to the "appliance store"...

if you buy the modern fancy ones you'd better buy 2 sets so you have a backup set to use when the primary set breaks down.........pearls of wizzdumb.:D:D

Speed Queen. 15 year old set that has never broken down and still looks like new. Simple is better.

An Uncle used to have several laundromats and they were the only ones that would stand up to the "third world" clientele.

My dad called me last year and said his dryer wasn’t working, both washer and dryer were 15 years old. I went down to our local appliance shop and bought him a new Maytag set that was on sale thinking $1600-$1800 delivered and installed same day with haul off.

All good right? Not so much.

He calls me up and says the new washer won’t get the soap out and the new dryer won’t dry the clothes. I’m thinking he’s not setting things right, but it turns out he was and the stuff just doesn’t work. I call for service and they send tech out right away, he tells me the stuff is operating correctly but it doesn’t work because of all the EPA bullshit, can’t use enough water, and also can’t use enough heat to help save the planet. He says off the record to call the company and exchange this stuff for Speed Queen as it’s the only stuff that actually works. However never use the eco modes as those are just there to appease the epa, those modes don’t work LOL

So another $1000 thrown at the situation and all is good, just about $3k if memory serves me right.

Speed Queen for the win.

I will say our GE Harmony set has lasted 15yrs. But have replaced all the bearings in it 2x and the belt. Washer doesn’t seem to do as well either now and we want the agitator back.

Wife does tons of laundry.

I had LG front loaders for 5 years. Washer had to be repaired every year. Plus clothes never came out clean as I wanted. Repairman told me to stay away from all the electronics on my next purchase. I got rid of the LG's (dryer was OK). Bought the low end Maytag washer (with agitator) and dryer. Going on 7 years without any problems. Clothes are much cleaner. Cost was more than half. Go cheap, you will not regret it.

I see there are a lot of votes for Speed Queen. I’ll thrown one down for Electrolux front loads. We got a set with our previous home, and liked them enough to buy a new set when we moved. We’ve had them 4 years, and had no problems. They can be completely filled with heavy towels or whatever, as long as you don’t pack them down, and they handle it like nothing. They dry even that heavy load in one cycle, and will dry sensitive materials very well at low temperature. They also have steam and sanitize functions. Also, my subjective observation is that our clothes last much longer than they did with other machines we’ve owned.

we had the ge's with all the bells and extras...... biggest pice of shit ever didnt use enough water to get bed sheets fully wet, got tired of my wife complaining, bought a matched pair of speed queen commerical washer and dryer with knobs, wife loves them, they cycle through in less time..... finally have clean sheets and clothes....... the newer washer and dryers are being built with energy and water saving designs (europe ?), the older machines were not..... dont waste your time with anything else... happy wife happy life!

American style washers are junk.

Get a Miele front loader. It takes a little longer to do the job, but the clothes come out clean and un-damaged.

I bought a Miele gas clothes dryer for my last home about 12 years ago ( ex wife still has it) but it was temperamental also. Super sensitive to the exhaust pressure, the vent pipe was about 20' long and I am sure that had to do with the intermittent problems but even when it was operating as intended I didn't feel it was worth the money. Front loader washers are just a PITA in my experience over 20 years of experience.

Were going to buy a SQ dryer and or washer dryer set tomorrow. Looking up the options is not straight forward so we are going to look at them in person.

Anyone want to purchase a gently used 2 YO set of Samsung cloths washer and dryers? Washer works, dryer probably needs a circuit board...

Well, that didn't turn out as I expected. I searched all the local suppliers, online searches listed SQ on hand but when we went to purchase last Sunday they were back ordered for weeks and or months. My better half owns her own business and launders at home, so this was a major issue. We wound up buying a Maytag Commercial set from a local vendor with a 10 year warranty. So far these things get it done efficiently and quickly. Not the most aesthetically pleasing appliances in our home but are getting the job done as advertised. They have removable panels on the front of each unit for repair.. on one hand I like that but on the other I dont.

They will outlast the Beauty Queens and the Beauty Queens replacements lol.
I hope so, our GE's were 18 yrs old not 15 what I posted above, but should have replaced them at 15.

We wanted the steam dryer and the washer that had the agitator that moved and not the whole drum. So this is why the different colors/model.
