We are almost a year in on the Speed Queen set and have had zero issues. Yea, they look like a bare bones appliance but they just perform as advertised.
Our same experience, no extra stuff to break and fast. Thing is a tank

I have new LG washer and Dryer in my Phoenix house and a new Maytag washer and dryer in the Park City house.

I will never buy another washer or dryer unless its a Speed Queen. Should have learned my lesson the first time. My daughter has our old 2009 Kenmoore HE2 washer and dryer and I want to trade them for our 'new' crap. I can go on about why but theres no reason too. In terms of the LG versus Maytag the Maytag is superior.

Get a Speed Queen. I will never buy another washer or dryer unless its from them or an exactly similar product.

The Speed Queen (T5 maybe?) that is the original with a manual dial and no frills is the way to go. Simple.. The washer an dryer my parents had in the 1970's and 80's growing up does better than these bluetooth/wifi enable overpriced underperforming machines... PERIOD

Lowes Is carrying Miele. Heard the dishwasher is better than the Bosch. Everything I saw on display from Miele looks top quality.
Bosch is the German Volkswagen of appliances.

Miele is light years ahead of Bosch in technology and longevity. Miele has their own foundry. They make their own stainless steel.

Dealing with a bad Samsung washer this morning and fed up.

I’m all for buying a set of Speed Queens, but where is the go-to dealer for them in So Cal? (I’m in Upland)

👍

Also our set does not match color wise on the panel as we have a TC 5 washer but wanted the steam function for the dryer so needed to get the DR5......

Just to update the thread, I also discovered the installers did not level the washer like the instructions said. It was way off, leaning forward. So having leveled it, myself I think that resolved the issues, and will prevent future ones.

I'm with Uncle Dave.

Got a full house of Milele appliances.

Neighbors all have Wolf, SubZero, Viking, Bosch. Sure look good when they invite their friends over to show off name tags. Nothing but problems. Multiple repairs and service visits.

My Milele have been flawless.

How have these held up for you? I really want to know, my kenmore set from the 90’s is on its last legs and I’ve seen too many fancy new W/D sets eat shit after a few years.
Bought them in 2008 and they get daily use, no issues and they wash and dry nicely.
3 girls with washing, 3 boys washing, me washing rugs, towels, rags clothes, RV stuff ,, runs every day, all the time.
I bought them at Home Depot.

The top of the line LG units is their best IMHO.
Direct drive, ball bearing - stainless motors,, worked for decades in the AC world, works good in washer and dryers too.

Update on the Speed Queen electric washer and dryer set we bought on 9/9/2023. The washer lid latch started acting up about a year ago, would not unlatch after the wash cycle ended. My wife discovered that if the lid was pushed to the back or left side it would unlatch. Last Saturday I washed some clothes and it would flat out would not unlatch. I tried using levers to push the lid around, unplugged it for a couple minutes tec then just pried the lid open. When this first started happening I tried removing the lid magnetic sensor and putting directly on top of the lock mechanism mounted to the underside of the washer lid, it didn't make a difference. When I yanked the lid up it broke a really chintzy piece of plastic off the upper lid locking mechanism, a dog leg fully plastic arm with a catch on the bottom. Anyhow, the washer quit working due to a lid latch issue.

I think the issue is the electronic plastic latching mechanism under the deck of the washer or a faulty motherboard. Even Speed Queen isnt immune to problems, which really sucks given the buy in cost and simplicity of the units. A tech is supposed to call me around 9:00am tomorrow and let me know when he will be at my home. Hopefully he has the parts needed to make it operate.

Side note, why does the washer lid need to be closed during the entire wash operation? I would love to not have that as a safety feature... what the hell happened for a company to have to add complexity to a simple devise to " protect" people??

At least speed queen warranty is long. We got a set about a year ago.
The simplicity at first was kinda disappointing. Now it's the best. No need for all the bullshit

Is yours a top or front load? Our top loader doesn’t lock closed during a wash.

They’re all like that I think, “Gotta protect you from you so you don’t sue us”
That switch has been the only thing I’ve had to replace on our 4 yo GE washer. I tried to bypass it, but I think it sends a signal that it needs to opened and closed. Had an issue with the “high efficiency” water fill as well.

We just got a set of speed queens, I installed them two nights ago.
They are the ones with the black/led controls. I turned a 20 minute job into a 4 hour debacle lmao. It started with the gas line i had previously used being a tiny 1/4" model, me owning a larger unused 3/8 line and all the fittings being wrong on both ends.. Trip to ace took an hour of me confused as shit trying to get the right combo of fittings to attach to my flex hose lol. The ace kid surprisingly found exactly what I needed. Installed the speed queens and that was that.

The old pair of whirpool duets with pedestal's I wanted to sell. Wife has plenty of people wanting them at $400. Go to close the door of the washer and the fucking thing won't latch.😤 So dig into that as much as we could and it's 8pm in the blink of an eye. I just left the whole thing torn apart to revisit the next day and clean up the tools etc. Looks like I will be using the Murrieta appliance guy mentioned in the other thread.

Long story short- simple is never simple for me.

Speed Queen offers a 'Classic' top load washer that doesn't have lid lock feature. I mentioned this on first page of this thread. I did not know this when we bought in 2020 as I didn't have time to research. It's an annoying nanny feature. I think there is a video on YouTube on how to disable it.

I would love to find a work around for the locking lid. My kids are both more than 6' tall and my cats are smart enough to not jump in to a vessel filing with water at a high DB level.

I thought I had it. I put a nut where the latch goes and taped up the switch. It worked for 3 cycles and then would not start. The circuit board has to sense that the latch opened. I ended up having to buy a new switch. I just had to wire nut the switch ch on my old washer.

The washer is a top loader with digital controls, model # TR7003WN. https://speedqueen.com/products/top-load-washers/tr7003wn/

once the wash cycle has started the lid locks, I really don't like that as sometimes you find a sock or random kitchen or downstairs bathroom item to toss in after the lid has locked.
I'm sure you know it, but once cycle starts, press the Start/Pause button. Lid unlocks and you throw the extra clothes in. Press Start/Pause again and cycle continues. Yes, it is annoying.

I scheduled a tech to come out through the chain store I bought them through, Judd & Black. When I scheduled this I told the gal that the lid latch is broken, but that isn't the root cause, that it's either the electronic latching mechanism on the deck of the washer and or the motherboard. I took a half a day off of work as they said the tech will be there between 10:30am and 12:30PM on Wednesday.
The tech shows up around 11:30 AM in the middle of a Teams call for a 85M RFP I am on.... I exit the meeting and show him the unit and explained the problem. He tells me " they didn't send any parts, so it will be 2 weeks + to fix it". He then tells me, "man I remember being at your home a year and a half ago when the Maytag units our salesmen recommended over the SP's ate your wife's hair salon capes and that you loaded the units up and returned them"

I called Speed Queen to see if parts could be expedited. I was on hold for almost an hour then punted after being told to leave a call back #. I did get a call back an hour later, but the gal I talked to said the repair would be up to who ever I set it up with and that SQ could not expedite parts.

I also left a message for Judd & Blacks service manager explaining the issue and asking for a call back to discuss.

In my experience in life, if you want results you find out who can make things happen then pester them all the while being professional. The tech should be back this coming Wednesday with all the parts to repair the washer, probaly going to need to work from home to accomodate this again. Fortunately I can do this right now, a lot of people are not able to.

I went to a local laundry matt yesterday, it costs about 40.00 to wash a week of clothing. I brought everything home wet and stayed up until 9:00pm last night drying clothing.

It just blows me away at the quality issues of todays mass produced items, and the way customers are treated and the expectation that they will just except the extended duration to fix things.

I got a call from the owners rep of the developer of the building I just finished a couple of life science TI's in. He got a complaint from the residential neighbors about the lighting being on after hours. Not my or my companies scope and the issues are not on the floors we built out. The issue was with floors that were contracted to one of our GC competitors but I as well as out electrical contractor spent 2 hours tonight (starting at 4:00PM) to figure out why all the lights below my TI floors were burning after 10:00pm.

I did not know that, thank you for sharing! Laundry machines are not something in my wheelhouse of researching how they function. It is now though as it has become a irritant in my life!
