by they way, the days of over paid lazy union construction workers are over, it has been for awhile. The economy is bad, no construction projects, If your not hauling ass your not working. Union wages have not kept up with the cost of living, they are by no means over paid.
I have been at this for 25 years, Ive seen the union worker change. Its no longer a easy pay check. We no longer see the lazy guy complaining to his union, the quaility of the craftsmen is actually at a all time high.
If you dont like it, well you just are not informed, or you have a old misconseption.

But the state still gets it for a fraction of the cost and the gc still makes money.:thumbsup

So what you are saying is that the union gc's are paying for the privilege of constructing peoples projects?:D

My uncle (dads oldest brother) tied rebar for 45 yrs back when safety was a foriegn word and rusty pliers was the tool of choice. today he is permanently hunch backed, cant walk for extended periods of time, his feet are destroyed, and it kills him to hold anything for more then a few mins. Hes fallin apart. But he says he wouldnt trade it for anything. My cousins live a comfortable life cause of his sacrifice. Its a tough job for sure.

I'd say its a mixed bag on roadwork, you notice carmagedon Rhinoracing? Penhall got it done early both times and they're union. My family biz is the grinding co. on the job. we may sit for half a shift some nights, but that's on the main contractor Kiewitt, and the fact there's a lot of moving parts that have to work around each other.
Now, jobs we do everyday, Local 12 operaters can be let
go just as easily for poor performance as non union guys. The union spectrum is huge and you're invited to try and keep up as a groundman on a 16 hour day grinding 120k sq. feet if you think it's not real work/ he he

Today's unions are much different the unions of old. 30 years ago, PAC was not nearly as important then today.

Autoworkers are about the only ones left that are still protected by the union. Same thing at my shop...a guy isn't cutting it...here's your check and I'll take back the tools I provided you...thanks.

Cool pics BTW!

Rodbusters are known in the trades for, well, let me be politicaly correct here, ROUGH around the edges:D:D I have had guys that work for me ask me why are they like that. I reply "If you punked rebar all day and bent over tying it all day, you would be like that also. Tough lifestyle. Concrete doesn't get placed without them:thumbsup

Good looking work pal. Nice and cool out there too, Im sure. Hard labor. Looks bad ass too.

Have skateboard, will travel

So you are making money?

I'm thinking you may have other obligations to fulfill before you go risking money you could use to pay people back. You think?

I really appreciate the guys the see thd real work, instead of thinking we are a bunch of sniviling union guys, there is a reason union ironworkers still man 90% of the jobs, we still work!

LMFAO... Come on now. The only thing I've ever seen a union company do better is BRAG about how awesome they are. This is the real world out here, wake up.

That's tough work your doing out there, but don't think for 1 second that union guys work any harder than non union construction workers... You would be in for a very rude awakening.

You have some good points. I have 30 years in now and have been on all union jobs and partial non union jobs. Nothing against the non union guys but I will take the all union projects every time. :thumbsup

If you're used to taking 3 hours of breaks per day, I understand where you would be disappointed.:D

I have to kind of agree that the non-union guys work super hard, in fact I would say they work harder, only because they don't know how to work smarter :D

About 90% of the US workforce would have different opinion. Unionized labor consists mainly of manual labor jobs, not too many CEO's or brain surgeons fall into that category.

Lmao, I would not consider what I do manual labor;) Riddle me this, have you been on both sides of the fence? Have you worked both non-union and union in the same trade? Have you ran both union and non-union jobs? I have, and I have a pretty good ideal of the quality and quantity produced from both sides of the fence, I have to say, given a choice, I would stick to running union projects, simple as that........
Most people I know who have a bad opinion of union workers have never had them work for them, or been one.

We use to be a Union Plastering Contractor. I have worked on both side with these guys. There is good guys on both sides. I will say "I Fucking hate the Union as a Contractor". If you are a big shop you can control the Union pretty easy. That shit isn't right. They pay a different scale then we do and the Union is scared to loss their business so they kiss these big shops asses. It cost us a lot of money to drop out of it in 1989 but it was worth it. I can tell you that Union guys call me all the time to work as a scab because the Union is dead.:p:D

I'm on both sides every day. I've got approx 30 million dollars worth if homes under construction right now.. I manage union and non union trades every day, and I completely respect the conditions and work ethics of both.

My point of posting was merely to clear up the misconception that Union workers are somehow better workers than Non Union.

Don't blame you.. We had 4 trades dissolve their companies and re-open in the last 4 years merely to get away from the unions. They're more competitive now because of it. 2 of the companies had over 200 employees.

I can't say I know anything about union workers in a residential construction site. I can say however that in commercial and industrial construction and in my trade there is a definite difference in skill level between union and non-union workers. I have worked with Bechtel, Shaw Stone and Webster, ect ect and they even hire union labor to work on their overseas contracts, wonder why? At any rate it all comes down to a matter of opinion, I can respect that in your line of work you may be right, at any rate I am done with this whole deal, its kind of like politics, no one is going to change their mind.

They are just waiting for the right container to come in and then oooppssssyyyyy, door falls open and all the tvs won't fit back inside. OK now set it over there, where did that container go. It was here a minute ago, it was either red or green. Oh I see it over there in that stack:D:D
