I met John for the first time over memorial weekend and I could talk to him for hours on end. Every manufacturer has issues. I'd buy an ultra without a second thought.

You should get the full details on this particular boat! This blue and silver boat was abused and beat to shit! I am not saying there was not an issue with the few infused boats, but not ALL! Maybe 5-6 out hundreds of Ultras built. Only a few were infused! This dead horse has been beat enough! Nice first post!

Kind of strange your 1st post came in a thread that is a year old. Nobody butt hurt, just no reason to bring up old stuff, JW has came out and said all that people wanted to know about this, if you would of read this thread you could of PM'd him with all the questions you had instead of bring up old news.

I was and still am happy to have found out the fact before i spent 70k on a boat. I am truly sorry for the people that have had problems with there boats. I dont want to be one of them. :fingers:

Not protecting anything. This has all been discussed before and anyone who is looking to buy a used Ultra should do his research and know JW is on the boards and if you had any questions about a boat to send him a pm and get the real answers.

I am not butt hurt and I am happy to own an Ultra.:thumbsup In fact this is my fourth. Mine is not infused and I would take mine over your Eliminator all day long. Hey boatnutt one last thing. You may want to go back and check the history on Eliminator. They have had more than a few boats delam! I would just hate for you to get sick and "throw up" when you find out. BTW I would not hesitate to by an Eliminator either. All MFG's have had some issues.

As best I can tell, the specific number of infused ultras is not generally known. Someone suggested 20. I'll bet the number is lower than that but let's assume 20.

Next, John mentioned Ultras with "some delamination" and he cited 4 boats specifically. We've got boats being scrapped. The damage is catastrophic.


OK. If Ultra infused 20 boats and 4 of those boats have delaminated, that is a failure rate of 20%. Twenty... fucking... percent.

What if 20% of all GM trucks suffered catastrophic frame failures in the first two to four years of their lives, totalling the trucks? Would the gay for GM fanboys suggest the trucks went over bumps that are too large? Get serious.



Here's the deal.

If you own one of a handfull of Ultras that have been infused, you have a huge safety issue. The hull needs to be examined closely because your life depends on it. If the hull checks out OK, you're fine to keep enjoying the boat. In the future, the hull needs to be checked regularly because the likelihood of eventual failure is extremely high.

If you own a standard layup Ultra, you can sleep well knowing your boat is almost certainly safe. The fact that your standard layup Ultra is fine, however, doesn't mean jack shit to the safety and reliability of the infused Ultras so your defense of infused Ultra is based on bullshit.

If this info wasn't on RDP, people wouldn't have any way to discover this issue. Most people probably won't bother doing the research but it's cool that it's out there. Kudos to RDP for paying some respect to prospective buyers.

I think Boatnut's posts are coming across as if the thread made him not buy one of the worst boats in the world. This is how it sounds the way I am reading it. The fact is, like many have said, ultra has built a ton of quality boats and only a few (5-6) sub par ones. Boatnut seems to be sizing up the company on these few instances and not giving credit to the boats that are still running strong.

It would be the equivalent of sizing up DCB on the delam they had with that F-29 (maybe it was a 32). I know everyone here probably still wants a DCB. I realize DCB sets the bar for quality but they are the only company that I can think of off hand that had a delam issue recently.

Sometimes if someone is googling a boat brand or a term like "issues with (brand)" a thread like this can index. Thats how these old threads surface. Not always the case but if you google anything about issues on boats or cars, usually the forums pop up because that is where these problems are discussed.

Again as it was stated many times in this thread, the standard layups didn't have any problems. It was a handful of the infused hulls. Apples to oranges. If your happy with your current boat, keep it If you want an Ultra, I'd suggest you buy a standard layup as they seem to be a great boat with a large volume of happy owners.

Except the dcb did not have a delam issue. It had gotten in an accident and had a big hole in it. That thread was "mis titled" to say the least.
