Talked to rusty this morning via text. He said they are not closing and are very much open!

Stacy swung by the shop as well while she was out running errands. Rusty said there are some people that he doesn’t know saying he is out of business. I am going to see him when I get back from California day after tomorrow.

So why the disconnected phone?

Seems like peeps keep getting burned by this guy. What happened to the 4 year build that never finished?

If he's not out of business now he might be shortly......Bad news travels fast and that ship has sailed. Sounds like to me he's grasping at the final straws. I don't have any dealings with the company but sure wouldn't take anything there just from what has been floating around.

This whole thing stinks. I don't know why you are sticking your neck out there on this. The business owner is always going to say "Everything is fine, nothing to see here!".

Sounds just like the news the days before Hallett changed hands. People always say everything is fine as the boat is filling and the mice are bailing.
We will see where it is really headed as time passes, but he best work on his PR if he wants to really keep the doors open.

You would have to have a screw loose to do any type of business with them

This situation doesn't sound anything like the Hallett deal. Like 79HUSTLER said, sounds more like the OCM deal.

Wouldn't touch Ultra right now. Rusty took Ultra from a mid-high end respected brand to a low-end fly-by-night company. Its too bad.

So what are you saying, Nordic might be buying Ultra? LoL

Until Rusty explains these few delayed builds and phone issues I can’t endorse it.
Even JW said his calls were not being returned.

Hasn't Ultra always had a sketchy reputation, EXCEPT for when John West owned it?

I didn't say it sounded like the deal, I said it sounded like the news. If something isn't going right or is being hashed out, they aren't going to tell Dave the truth via text. They will say all is fine and drop the truth when they deem right.

But the question is Dave, did you sit down with him and watch him fill out a cashiers check?

If the money isn't deposited today then I will absolutely unlock the other thread, and the first post in it after the unlock will say "The agreement that I bore witness too was not honored by OCM"

I have more faith in Tim then that though, so I suspect again that this will never happen. He has given me his word that it would be taken care of this afternoon, and I have no reason to doubt him.

I guess we will find out in the next 4 hours and 52 minutes. There is zero excuse that I would find acceptable for that deposit not being made.

:eek:o_O:confused:

I had to re-read this post and make sure someone didn’t bump the OCM thread. Lol.

It was that shady VanBeck (sp) that caused issues in the past. JW and Big John ran great shops and I enjoyed the build process with JW.

Jerry Van Beek, scumm ass mofo. He was the fuck stick that took down Bahner and Boat city in Asuza too. How he is still alive and or walking is beyond me.

funy part is he is a board member here. I have not seen him post in a while, but when he did most of the board had no idea and would praise his posts.....LOL anonymity is a crazy thing

I’m not sticking my neck out.. lol.

It was posted on here and on social media that the phone was disconnected, the shop was closed down and there was a note on the door saying “no occupancy” from the fire department.

I was pointing out that I texted him, he texted me back. Stacy drove by there while she was out running errands and the doors were open and people were working. (So obviously the internet was incorrect on that)

Not everybody lives locally and there are people with boats down there getting worked on. When someone posts on here and elsewhere that they are closed down for good, that instills a sense of panic in those people.

As for the rest and the four year build etc.. That’s up to Rusty to address that publicly if he wants too. I’m not getting involved with it.

I never watched Tim do that either.. lol. Memory is a funny thing Grads!

There is about four or five guys that are really happy they got their money back out of that deal though Grads. Two of our members in particular.

I talked to that guy 20 years ago about a boat, didn't take long to figure out the dude was a complete shit bag.

He and a couple buddies rented a house down the street from me when I was in my late teens/ 20's. Parties with strippers, piles of coke and other debauchery were typical. That was when they operated boat city. Lots of movement in the dark of night, people, boats coming and going etc. They finally bailed in the middle of the knight leaving the landlord stuck with a mess to clean up and months of unpaid rent when boat city went down. Total shit bags of peeps right there.

I worked for him back in the early 90's when he was doing ultra in Irwindale. Right when John West started the store in San Diego. It was interesting to say the least

I visually say the sign the fire department had posted in the front door. I had called and stopped by to buy some little parts and he had to lead me through the rear entry into the office to get the parts, he said the door was jammed.

I’m not disagreeing with you. Lol

All that I’m saying is it was posted that they were out of business and obviously they’re not out of business.

I still would like to see some of his paddle boards and maybe have him build a custom one.

There was a thread on the infamous FB and i was one that’s said “stay away … and about the door being tagged” All i can say is i wouldn’t even buy parts from those guys ever again, it’s illegal to purchase stolen goods and lets be honest anything they sell there is and would be stolen... off a build they’ve already been paid for.

I understand your point. But when a business is circling the bowl by all outward accounts, eventually it goes down the drain. Half say “I told you so.” And the other half ask “How could this happen with no warning?” or “He’s such a nice guy, how could he have taken advantage of customers?”

I know you aren’t getting involved per se, but people should not be under some false hope and engauge in business there. He is certainly not going to tell you of all people if he has no business and is planning to close shop in a week and skip town. He’s going to say exactly what you said he said.

It would be like letting Matt Lauer interview your wife and being suprised that he said something offensive to her off camera :)

He's just buying enough time to get out of Dodge.

I have talked to Rusty multiple times. I get the opinion he gets over his head and runs so lean he does not get the right folks in to help.
He has never done me wrong, but IMO while still open he is having issues and not asking for help.
He really can’t get out of dodge, and knowing what I know I think he is scrambling to fix things and got too deep.

I got to see the red 28 Shadow deck that was being built for 2 years, yesterday. It's at Interceptor now. Feel terrible for the guy.

Gotta admit though, that 28 Shadow Deck is one nice boat.

I'm sure someone will pick up the mold at the liquidation sale. Hopefully it will be someone good.

Cash on delivery. .If I was going to get a new board that would not be my first choice, so many lighter, better designed boards on the market to choose from in my book.

JW posted something on RiverWhips that he owns all the Ultra molds still.

I'm only posting what he told me himself. As I said - possibly he's
holding a note and is still the owner until they are paid off???

Or I guess I could have just miss understood him.
