My Tundra is still missing the cats. Sheriff told me they would steal them again as soon as I replaced them.

It's a fucked up world to have to deal with this shit everyday. I can see why so many move. My grandparents farm house in Iowa sits vacant. I could move and be a farmer. My cousin lives down the road in Maysville. 3600 sq ft house 2500 sq ft shop 450k.

But my Mom lives 2 minutes from Me and always needs help. My Nieces and Nephews are here. And I got a good crew that has worked with me for 18 years that rely on me. They also do a lot for me so I can't leave. Work Harder and build a fortress.

This is the same boat I am in, I work for a large corporation and could essentially take a role within the company anywhere in the US....but my mom is here and needs my help a lot, and I can't take her with us because she helps take care of my brother who is blind....

Seems like there is a heck of a good business opportunity in the neighborhood for a protection racket. 🤔
Yeah. Going to probably add the fences across 3 properties because of this. Going to call my guy shortly that made my other fence. Probably 30k or more in work for him. Imagine pretty soon it will be like the hood and every house will need 1. Torrance, pv and lomita is a large area. Lots of customers Going to need them.

My buddy just recovered a black 2021 Denali in East L.A. I got excited for you @NicPaus until I remembered yours was silver. 👎

One asshole went to jail for the night, so it's a step in the right direction.

Get a warrant for his house. Neighbor across the way said they tracked one to East LA and found 30 more at the location. Another 1 turned up 5 at a tow yard.

The jeep is gone still. He had it 5 months. Lojack didn't get it back.

I am probably going to work tomorrow. And back on the non stop work program. I looked up the replacement cost. Around 62-66k plus tax. I feel like I will be lucky to get 45k out of insurance. And will have to fight for that number. Add in the extras dealer put on and I am Around 75k otd. Not including my personal stuff.

I don't have all the details, however my Buddy said the truck was taken out of LAPD Northeast on the 29th. Recovered intact which is lucky for the registered owner.

Thanks! It gives me hope. Although I am doubtful I will ever see it again. The contents mean more to me.

Crazy how many I have heard of lately disappearing. No wonder why my insurance rates have gone through the roof.

This is not a good look for the new DA. Gascon was awful and has allowed/ encouraged this kind of crap to go on with no repercussions the new DA needs change things and start actually punishing these clowns.

I think it’s a bigger problem than just LA. Newsom has been on a roll shutting down prisons. As a result, to many inmates are being dumped back into our communities on early release.

Politicians claim crime is actually down, I call BS on that.

It’s not just a CA thing. Every large population, democrat controlled city has these problems. It may be exasperated a bit in CA because of the geographic relation to MX, but vehicle theft and break ins are rampant in most major cities.

There’s a lot more garages that people park in out here in Arizona whereas out there a lot of the 100 year old homes don’t have garages that you can park in.

you would look good in a silver f-250 ;)
I was actually looking at Fords last night. Since I couldn't find one with same features. At least I know it was taken care of. Hardest part about buying used. That truck 95% of the Miles were freeway. Just cruising not towing.

That sucks for insurance. Sounds like they think your guilty.

We have st farm for 25 or more years and we’ve had 2 vehicles stolen wifes jeep in 99 and my gixxer in 2001. Both times had checks cut within 2 weeks and very fair payouts. Wife’s jeep multiple cars in hood got stolen that night according to pd. Was in Long Beach. Detective said a ring most likely and cars go straight to ports and out.

My gixxer was in Fullerton I left it in driveway near gate forgot to put away came out to go to work it was gone. Go to insurance they call me in within a week to settle. Adjuster had a cycle trader on desk says she got an average value and gave me an offer. Well most know people are high when they price things in a trader. So I had no opposition.

Pretty sure a tweeker up the street stole it he came by a couple months after asking if I had the title because he had an in on a chop shop and thinks he saw the bike there and wanted title to compare numbers.

Yeah my house was built 1920. No garage. Most garages around here won't fit a truck.
Plus everybody here has a gun, or 2, or many.

About a week ago, the Home Depot I normally go to had two dudes that came in and tried to walk out with a bunch of stolen stuff. Two separate customers in the store witnessed the attempted crime, both had concealed 9mm pistols, and both gave foot chase.

The two thieves ran to their car and hopped in as one of the good guys with a 9 mil jumped in the car with them as they took off. The other good guy got into his truck and followed them while he was on the phone with the police who ended up pulling them over a couple blocks later without incident.

Additionally,

Last week, this asshole walked into that same Home Depot with a gun and started causing issues and then he walked out and tried to car jack a dude in the parking lot, at 11AM. The man he tried to car jack took off in his truck and called the police who ended up arresting him in the parking lot as I was driving out with my rented skid steer.

That is not recommended in standard CCW training, no one's lives were in immediate jeopardy. You are also taught to not go towards the threat, wait for the threat to come to you.

Does the obd connection theft work on vehicles that have an old fashioned key in the column, like an’03?

2 friends have shown me videos of the theft in action. They hold a computer or scanner out tge the window of another vehicle there in. It starts flashing numerous times. Then the vehicle there stealing turns on. They break the window jump in and drive off. The alarm doesn't go off in those cases.

So not sure if they plugged into my ob2 or not.

Definitely need to figure something out for security that works.

reminds me of the old days when cell phones ESNs were captured with a OTA device. The crook would sit at a busy intersection and the device would capture the ESNs of phones as folks drove by with the phones on.... Took LEO a while to determine how ESNs were stolen and phones were cloned.... clever fuckers

I'm reading the hacker can read your key fob if it is within range of the vehicle, with out you touching it.

Keep the fobs in a coffee can is the cheap hack I'm reading about. Metal box. Faraday cage.

Kill switch on the fuel pump relay is still my favorite. No fuel, no run.

I would think if they could read the fob. Why would they be breaking the window. Also why would the alarm go off once door is opened.

How do they start it before they get in as described in post 288 ?

I don't know how they can start it but not unlock it.

A fuel pump kill switch will still stop them. Too many ways to do it for any thief to find and defeat in a few minutes if the alarm is going off.

Maybe remote start is hacked. But you still would have to simulate the fob being in it and push the button once inside.

Maybe the alarm is a different frequency.

I am not sure. I will ask the auto theft task force neighbor more questions.
