If they can defeat the computer they can defeat most anything else.

Going to buy a bundle of trackers. But when I searched the first thing pops up is gps detectors and blockers.

Way to easy to defeat

The circled end is hollow, a 13/16 close end end wrench and it's bent out of the way and on the ground in about 5sec, buddies truck got stolen that way except they were nice enough to lean it against the front door so when he opened the front door to leave it fell into the house.

It will give me enough time to go get my ass kicked or shot

Fixed

Keep in mind, there is one of you and at least 2 of them (someone had to drive 'em there) and they've been ready for a fight for hours and are prepared and wide awake....while you just woke up in your underpants

Mount a short barrel Semi Auto under the truck pointed up at the seat aimed up someones asshole and out their skull sitting in the drivers seat, actuated by a couple remote triggers that you keep in a safe spot within range in the house. Wander over there when you hear the alarm, hit the button, go back to sleep.

Fuel pump kill switch is the best thing
In my shop truck I take out the starter relay and the Fuel Pump relay if there are no plans for it the next day.

A talented thief would know how to get around it just like crawling under the car with a screwdriver to jump the starter. So the Fuel Pump not coming on should get them to move on.

It will slow them down and allow time for you to do your thing

It took less than a minute to.get my truck with a club on it. While i was trying to break the window to remove the bastard that was stealing my truck.

I was lucky though, He drove past the responding cop and after a short pursuit he foot bailed. Was arrested and released. NOT CHARGED!

On the OCSD Instagram page it seems the Sheriff is catching people every night in stolen cars full of pills and a gun or two.
Mission Viejo is fairly large however I am amazed what a great job they do every night.
IMO stay home between 12 am and 4 am. That seems to be the shit show hours of operations.

Our OC Dist. Attorney prosecutes. Word should have got around by now.

All that said I lock my stuff down and take my tools in every night yet still think something will eventually get jacked.
After seeing that video of my shop truck being stolen I can't relax easily when I lay down.

Feel bad for ya @NicPaus. This is such a headache that Advil nor whiskey can cure.

A buddy of mine had his Jeep Trackhawk stolen in front of his house a few months ago. Got insurance payout and made out okay.

Last week a CHP officer calls him full of pride and says he recovered the vehicle and arrested the driver/thief. He then asks if my buddy had anything in the car. CHP knows insurance owns the car now.
My buddy lists off a couple things, chip says, any money?
My honest friend says just small change. Chippy says he recovered an enormous amount of cash and. Just wanted to make sure it wasn’t his!!!!!! lol

I can't even recall how much cash I had in the safe under the seat. Could of been a couple thousand. At least I didn't have a gun in there as last trip my Nieces and Nephew rode with me. Have not opened it in a long while.

I had a few gift cards in the center console. My bitchen flashlight in the glove box.

Kicking myself in the ass over the riding gear from relaxalot Bil. 2 gear bags and a bunch of kids riding gear.

My to tool box was so dialed in. Some tools never even used.

Hard to even think about it all. Just pisses me off.

Had to chuckle about leaning the club against the door. In the 90's, I "knew a guy", that would leave the "Viper" or "PageNet" alarm box in the driveway.

The scanners they are using now are the ones for sale that say "All keys lost" function. It tells the BCM that it needs the code to program to a fob, and then in turn acts as the fob. There are decent ones offered by the same company I got my truck scanner from, and about half the price...7-800$. In my opinion, adding a kill switch to the ECM key on power would be the best thing to keep it immobile. No fuel, no spark. Even on the earlier Duramax's, no ECM means no injectors even though they didn't have a fuel pump.

It really sucks, what's happening in the world. I remember a few years back, an inmate posted about the homeless living in the culdesac next to their shop. 20 years ago I'd looked at shops in that area, they were really nice, but rent was too much for me. Rent has probably only gone up, but now homeless are hanging out there. Nicer areas and homes have become the hunting grounds of the thief's. Instead of being safer, families and others are the targets...made so because of any modest success they may have had. It's truly saddening as much as it is infuriating.

We don't leave anything parked out front. Especially during bulk pick up week.

Phoenix got rid of Bulk trash pick up weeks this year, so that should keep opportunists from cruising the streets, and blending in. 👍

Order one of these. Switch the lock to a pad lock. Fuel pump kill switches are widely known and sometimes just don't do anything. Everyone knows the kill switch for a fuel pump on a 7.3 Ford is located in the glove box. Locking the brake pedal keeps the vehicle from being taken out of Park. The pedal and lock are in awkward tight area so they thieves would have to spend to much time to cut the lock. The goal is to prevent the vehicle from moving. Thieves will get it started but face challenges when the pedals are locked, or the manual shifter is missing, or the steering wheel is gone. Locking fuel caps work to a point if the vehicle runs out of fuel.

Sorry for your loss. Definitely sucks.

I was on the program that renovated Royal High School in Simi Valley some 20 odd years ago. The GC and all the subs were robbed of their tools. Touched open the containers. Also got into the trailer and took everything in it.

Upon departure, in big black letters, they spray painted the side of the trailer with: “Next Time Buy Better Tools Bitch”

With powerful cordless cut off tools a dime a dozen, anything with a chain or padlock is worthless.

Hide a kill switch, or the remote control relay I posted earlier in this thread. Plenty of remote control relays available to cut power that will take too long for a thief to figure out. Hide such a device and it will be there when you get back. Not the run of the mill alarms mounted under the dash.

If the thief can't be out in a minute, they leave. Unless it's parked in a commercial location with no time pressure, like a construction site.

Behind a gate with guard dogs is good, but most driveways are not like that.

I'm sorry @NicPaus that is the worst every time you remember something that you had in the truck like your flashlight.
I started writing my phone number on trailers in paint pen "Before Towing Call -------" and actually had some crackhead call me about a stolen dump trailer of mine left under an overpass in a nice little neighborhood off the 10fwy in LA. I never saw him and he never asked for a reward. Here's the pic when I hitched it up.

Ash tray area is great location for switch. There are many more spots where a thief ain’t going to look at. Can be small simple deal too but need to wire it yourself.

Guys stealing shit don’t want to spend minutes trying to figure out or bypassing a toggle switch.

Sounds like any kill switch is easily bypassed. Would a remote break line pressure switch be the way to go ?
You can start but not go.

Do that, activate it but don't pump the pedal, first time the thief hits the brakes it locks and can't be moved.

probably not real practical on newer cars. but it would strand the car in the middle of the street. :p

Found another remote control relays
Do the thieves have a way to trigger these after market remote controls

That looks like a nice easy way to add an extra layer of theft protection to a vehicle.

I like that it self activates. Also would be easy to remove and replace if ever malfunctioning.

What I was getting at is hidden switches don't really do anything as a professional thief will know where to look for a hidden switch and WILL find it in under a minute. You gotta make the vehicle so it can't be driven.

Best I ever saw was a penny stuck to the carpet with a drop of super glue and a tactile switch under the carpet to close a relay....Had to push on the penny to start the truck. Half the cars out there have a few pieces of change on the floor, nobody thinks twice about it.

In the old days, 1995ish, the cigarette lighter in my Mustang had to be pushed in. Instead of heating, the element was used as a connector, completing the circuit for the ecu trigger wire.

Modern era, seen a guy that ran an RFID. The sensor was in the center console, and the "key" was in the cell phone case. Same setup, interrupted the ecu power beneath the fuse box.

Also remember, if they want your car, specifically, they will get it. You can only make it more difficult. If they want a certain type like your car, if it doesn't start in the first two hits of the starter, they're usually out to find an easier one.

Something else to consider, burying your ODBII port, and moving it. The typical thief wants the low hanging fruit. They aren't normally geniuses. Everyone says the modern cars are harder to steal. I honestly think they are a bit easier now. No slide hammer to the key, no popping off the switch on the column and no need to break the column lock. Once inside, plug in and all that stuff is released and the push button starts it up.

I was thinking pulling the appropriate terminal from the connector and taping it back in the harness an inch or two. For as often as it gets used, would be easy enough to reinstall for service or diagnostics. But that only defends agains reflash attacks.

That actually gave me a great idea....just re-pin the DLC and make an adapter to correct it for smog tests/diagnostics. It will be completely useless without the adapter.

Air Tags are worthless.. If you have an I phone it sets an alarm off in your phone that you are being tracked!

RD

You take the speakers out of the Airtag. Hide them well.... Good luck finding them in all my cars. I have emails I send myself so I remember where I hid them in all my cars as you have to change the battery every year. Throw a second one in the car to make it even more difficult to find. Not foolproof put pretty cheap lojack alternative.

If the crook can't find the Airtag they park it. You find it!
