This seems like a better option for that sub experiance. 100' is a good depth with ocean life being in your porthole. Plus, you can survive if there is a problem at that depth.
At least it's light enough at 100' in the clear waters off Kona to enjoy the beauty of the reef and fish. The fish are attracted to the sub because the sub has feeders and I'm sure the fish know the sub's schedule.
Because at 100' all colors with exception to blue are mostly filtered out, the reefs isn't overly colorful as depicted in diver pictures using artificial light and all the sub occupants looked like smurfs. 🤣

My wife not being anything more than a snorkel diver, really enjoyed it.

If you were one of the passengers sitting at the bottom of the ocean hoping to be rescued, but probably thinking you are not going to make it and the passenger sitting next to you is a chick, would you ask for a BJ?
Well yeah but did you see that gal in there? Pass

I get stuck on the little shitter they've got in there. That news program that demo'd this thing showed it.... This sub was designed to take you on a 6 hour dive and thats it, right? Hope they're training involved taking one last large crap before dive.
I haven't tuned into news coverage yet this morning... what are they saying? Air runs out by what time Wed/ Thursday? Guess it depends on how fast and deeply they breath too, like a dive tank.

Edit... CNNs carrying it now. 40 hours left. Talking heads conjecturing and doing the drama game... good tv

I'd ask for my money back

Can't believe for something this size they don't have a big ass magnet with thrusters and a camera on a cable to drop down, cruise around till they find it...flip the switch, stick to it, and drag it back up. Drunk folks in skiffs do it pretty successfully...we call it magnet fishing. Hard to imagine an operation such as this is that far behind drunk dudes on skiffs.

As per some of the previous posts, instant catastrophic implosion is highly likely. May the victims RIP. That environment is not technically ready for tourism. C-ya can fill us in on the numerous super yachts in S Florida that now how mini submarines. Accidents can and, unfortunately, will happen. As the number of these recreational mini subs increase, so likely will the number of accidents.

FWIW - The wreck of the Titanic - There's a few RDP inmates who grew up in Downey, as I did also. Dr. Robert Ballard, who discovered the wreck of the Titanic, also grew up in Downey. He and his family lived on Bigby St, just east of Woodruff Ave and what was once called East Jr High. I've know Dr Robert, "Bob" Ballard since I was 7 yrs old. He and my older brother were very good friends, and remain so. Bob attended East Jr High and Downey High. He was working for/with Wood's Hole Instutute when he "discovered" the Titanic. Bob and the Wood's Hole equipment were on a classified mission for the USN for a stipulated period of time (weeks). That mission had nothing to do with the Titanic. USN agreed, if Bob and crew completed the USN mission early , any remaining time could be spent by Bob and crew however they wished, within reason. The info they had, indicated the potential location of the Titanic. That's where they went and began "mowing the lawn". (A term meaning dragging ROVs back and forth in a particular pattern). As we know, they found the Titanic. They explored and filmed the wreck. Bob told my brother, he knew he was exploring the graveyard of many people. He couldn't stop thinking about that. They saw no human remains. But, they did see a number shoes. Apparently the creatures down there didn't eat shoes. He made sure they gave the wreck their utmost respect. He took nothing from the site. He has left a memorial plaque at the site. Since then many others have taken items from the site. The wreck is in International Waters. I'm not sure how not permitting further souvenir taking would happen. How would it be patrolled or policed? It was probably a strong recommendation. In any case, it's no place for tourists. IMO - The remains of this imploded Oceangate vessel can and will be found, somewhere on the bottom. But, that will take a while.

Before it's said - Yep. This doesn't have a F'n thing to do with recreational boating. I thought it might be interesting to some. If the mods don't feel it's worthy or proper for RDP, then please take it down.

I heard they were looking for the Thresher or the other sub that went missing. I will have to ask my mom about the Dr as she went to Downey high.

Dare I say that you have ventured well beyond the pillars of decorum and cultural civility long observed by the gentlemen of RDP. You have soiled the institution and brought shame onto the reputation of the venerable RDP. May god have mercy on your soul.

Good day, sir.

Bob Ballard was DHS class of 1960. He began attending East Jr High in 7th grade, the first year it opened, 1954 (?).

Its twice the depth of the grand canyon and a bazillion psi and dark with current. After an hour and half decent who knows where it is, gps doesn't work under water

On many of the subs previous trips it failed to even relocate the Titanic.

I would not do anything that would increase heart rate or oxygen consumption... :)

Ocean Gate CEO & Founder Stockton Rush is on board his missing sub.
Like the guy who invented Segway was killed while riding a Segway LOL

I’m surprised this thread hasn’t merged with the Gillian’s Island thread…it was supposed to be a three hour submarine tour…

For all we know, they dove to inner earth and are driving around in cars made from coconuts

The Navy used the Titanic to prove the technology of locating a ship on the deep ocean floor. After Titanic the crew went and found the USS Scorpion, which had imploded and sunk in the 1960's in deep water. That part was all very hush hush.

They found the Scorpion first, then they had free reign to find the Titanic.

Personally……… I have not given up hope that they will survive. If they have not imploded, then they still have a chance at survival. Sure, it doesn’t look good. But right now, we don’t know if there has been an implosion.

If they are just trapped………. Now would be a good time to start tapping a Morse code inside the sub walls. This will at least allow the subs location to be known. Maybe I have watched too many submarine movies, but they do have listening devices or we wouldn’t have the term “loose lips, sink ships”. Start tapping!

I know I would tap out……….. I WANT A REFUND

And Ocean Gate is bitching about the US Government & the Coast Guard not doing anything.

I have something I'd like to say to Ocean Gate. . . . . . 2 words, first word is "fuck", second word is "you"
Mr. Rush must not have been a significant democrap donator.

So far United States Coast Guard spokespeople totally prepared to deal with the morons they must respond to in the media. Also, all United States resources involved in this search have nothing to do with the politicians in Washington DC. Our military is the real up & running United States.

News experts are indicating that tapping on hull would be something that would help locate sub.

The current Pentagon press secretary, John Kirby, makes me cringe. When he starts stuttering and stammering . . . . look out! As he performs the World's Biggest Tell. It would probably be a riot to play poker with him. Our US Military needs to refind their primary objectives.

In all honesty, what do you think the chances are that anyone aboard the sub actually knows Morse Code? 250k to go down in a sub...not easily afforded by most I'd think.

If it wasn't on a tether, there are a multitude of issues that could have arisen. Battery failure, drive malfunction and life support...even a faulty regulator. Even if structurally sound, the points of failure are numerous.

Looks like it would be possible including the weight of the cable. Not sure what the winch would look like?
