WOW... :( That is terrible.

Tell them to post the pics of the boat ASAP. We have a lot of members in the surrounding areas.. I'm sure GT has cameras on the property as well?

Thanks RD. This is the largest in dollar value that I have seen at one time, well organized.

I do not have the two other stolen boat details (38 Fountain/ 40' Hallet). When I do I will post it.

If someone learns of who they are, please get the details posted and photos. Until that time perhaps we could use this post as a point of info/contact for these three thefts.

The 40" Hallet just had 250K in new gelcoat, etc done by GT.BPI

GT did a badass job redoing that Hallett 400t. You can see it in the GT performance Wednesday thread.

I think he meant 250K in total work.. not 250K in gelcoat.

Here's a pic of the 400 Hallett, but I couldn't find a side pic.

Not like you'd be able to stash them in back of your garage. Whoever said Long Beach is probably right on. Probably in shipping containers headed for South America..:(

Any GPS tracking devices out there for boats? Lo-jack or something?

I'm right around the corner from GT, the shop is at the end of a dark dead end street. I'd assume Gary has video but his yard is big and if they were out in the open yard maybe tough to see. A well planned theft it seems, 3 larger trucks, straight down Central to the 10 and who knows from there. Gonna be hard to hide those 3 big boys.

There is actually.. Paul's buddy in phx had one developed. I don't see any reason why you couldn't put a lojack in a boat either, but the technology is antiquated compared to GPS.

Are these customers boats or Gary's boats? That really sucks and I can't imagine how you hide them.

Someone must be doing GPS tracking for boats. In vehicles, finance and leasing companies are putting them in cars. Don't make payments its easier for them to repo the car. My cousin had it in his leased F150 and now has one in his financed F150 through Ford.

NO video at GT.

Well that's stupid IMO, considering the amount of money he has inside his shop and out on the grounds and knowing all too well the problem all of us in this area have had with the homeless, just plain stupid.

This is a tragedy. They had to been scoping the place out for weeks.

We had active GPS monitoring on our electricians trucks and I looked into passive monitoring for my boat from this company.

I'm a little shocked there isn't a complete security camera deal with that kind of equipment in the yard.

Doesn't make sense not having any security at all. My travel trailer in a storage yard next to the rv dealership I bought it from. They have hidden cameras you can't see no matter where you look! This must of been an inside job by people who knew there wasn't any cameras.

Wow, no camera's? We just picked up our boat from him on Wednesday. Not that they would steal ours. He has a lot of high dollar stuff in there.

Terrible news.

Thinking out loud here. Obviously these thieves knew that these boats were at location. I doubt they just broke in and grabbed what was there. They knew what they wanted and obviously planned accordingly. Inside job or or thieves lurking build threads on the web?

All private owned boats.

I do claims for Markel American. As u can imagine Gary is quite upset.

They their are GPS units for boats, some require them on policies.

All finance companies here now use GPS trackers. So wouldn't be surprised if the boat finance companies start doing it.

Hard to believe and calling BS. With all that money sitting at that yard, no cameras? You can get a set of 1080hd cameras for under $2k with remote viewing at Costco.

I thought everyone monitored RD!

Was it general knowledge then, or did they still need to inform the owners of the boats?

Lo jack makes a nice self contained batt unit that has 5 or 10 year batt life. You can add gps tracking to it also. It is on their heavy equipment stuff so I think it would hold up I. A boat.

What a drag. I've been told that GPS only works within sight of satellites. You'd also need terrestrial coverage in case the vehicle goes inside a building. For a boat of that size and value, it would be a minor expense especially if products like LoJack can go 5-10 years on a single battery.

Hope they get 'em back quickly and the thieves are appropriately dealt with.

This whole thing just sux. Gary and his whole crew are really good people from what I can tell from the few times Ive met them. Its hard for me to wrap my head around the fact of no security of any type. Whos insurance company would cover a loss like this? Im guessing the loss is between 500 to 700 thou.
