It's shocking with all the videos they do on the work going on they don't have some security cameras.

The thefts of these now 4 boats should be big enough to put it on all the local news channels. All it should take is an experienced/knowledgeable person about boats to call the news stations with details that would make them want to do a story one would think.

With the inside ability you have with the job you do, maybe you could make a friend with one (or more) of the news reporters so that every time a boat of this size/magnitude goes missing from a marine shop, the news could do a quick news segment of the boat thefts.

Just a thought!

Hope you can find them, good luck.:)

How does the owner of any shop break the news to his customer that his boat has been stolen? How does the owner tell the victim he had no video of the crime???

I think both video and guard dogs are a must to protect the business owner and customer from today's thieves...

Some of your Hot Boat vets will remember "Charlie's" DCB was stolen from the DCB lot? Well DCB has no liability in the theft as they had a Master lock on the gate and did their duty in securing the lot and liability was now covered. So it falls 100% on the boat owners insurance companies.

What surprises me is this was known last Thursday, I just received the claim today and posted it. No prior post......
I thought everyone monitored RD!

Curious. No doubt... BoatPI, where's the info on all 3 of the stolen boats? 35 Fountain, 40 Hallett, ??? It's been a week.

How can the folks here at RDP help?

No significant clues. The Hallet will have a 10K reward today, see www.boatman.com This boat was not insured. Please save your shocking thoughts as to why it was not, the owner is quite upset as the other two. Lets call or use the net in every way to get someone to drop a dime. Money talks, and we have up to $15,000 so far. Download the flyers or attached them to every site , instagram, facebook, etc. that your can. This might cause a call to be made.

I do not like to publish my number, I would never sleep. This weekend we will monitor the messages at least twice at day at the office, they will call me 24/7 with any tip.

Our office is 619-226-1895. I have the cell to the taskforce detectives assigned to this investigation. The resources are there, we just need something to work on.

Cleary a group of crooks stole these boats, used more than one truck, and so far have kept them hidden. If if they did not tow them far away, San Bernardino County is the largest County in the country, not to mention Lancaster, etc. An very large area.I could throw out some thoughts as to where they are based on my experience, but that might cause them to cut the boat up or? They could be lurking about the thread too.

A press release is in the works, I will advise. Working closely with LE.

It is really crazy the amount of high dollar boats that are stored or being worked on at one time at Gary's shop, if you think about it they should have a full time watchman checking people in and out of that place full time, to many things going on during the day and night, many people coming and going and most everything around there is extreme $$$$....feel bad for all involved.

Kind of what I was thinking. With that amount of money in that shop, why not have a security guard on duty. Or a few pit bulls.

Cameras only let you watch your stuff get stolen. Look at that Daytona that was stolen at menace marine, they had the truck and guys on camera.
The dogs can be poisoned or killed.
My uncle was a cop and he said if they want what you have nothing is gonna stop them.

Cameras are only good if the cops do any thing with them. I had someone walk into a Chase branch on Monday with a forged check from my personal checkbook and get it cashed for 3k. They have video that I watched today, and they cops said there is not a whole lot they can do with it. Really! Haven't they watched any cop shows on TV!

Good professional cameras, a large DVR and well lit area can show high def images depending on frames per second recording. At least one camera down low can record license plates if they are on a vehicle. At least two on the front of a building, low LUX, showing a street view can show suspects exiting a vehicle, putting on hats or hoodies. It all helps as oppose to zero.

On the Menace marine theft the cameras were of fair quality, a lack of light and NO cameras low or pointing down the driveway or street. .

BoatPI, was there any camera's at the end of the street by the traffic light that may show the pull vehicles coming to the intersection? I would think the gas station would have a camera system.

Where can someone take boats like these and sell or use them? I would think they would be spotted right away.... My first thought was someone taking them south across the border.... regardless, the situation sucks for everyone involved.

If these boats are going to be moved anytime soon it's going to be this weekend. These guys will beable to blend in with everyone else going out of town...

On my way to work this morning (3:00 am) I saw a pretty big boat going down the 91 freeway in the opposite direction going east bound leaving the South Bay. The boat had a tow cover on it and it went by in a blure but it got me thinking this is the time to movem out...

I can only assume that if these guys are smart enough to pull off stealing 3 big boat they are smart enough to remove or use fake plates and put hoodys on before they get there. Just thinking out loud. ;)

Believe it or not, its kinda a pain in ass to bring your boat into mexico. I have been moving just an old tournament boat across the border for 20+ years. Now a days you are going to get stopped by mexican customs and you are going to go through paperwork checks etc... Now I know that you can bribe the agents etc some of the time now, but not like the good old days... And 3 big high end performance boats are going to attract a lot of attention. Everyone leaving the US is photographed and recorded at the major crossings. I dont see the advantage to moving the boats down there and then trying to bring the parts back here, with a whole nother set of eyes through US customs... but its not out of the question...

Can you imagine how much work it would take to cut up a 40' boat? The pieces would probably fill two or three 30 yard rolloffs.

Not insuring something worth a few hundred grand seems like a slight oversight, and the lack of theft prevention measures at Teague is astounding.

you don't have to cut up the boat, just sawzall out the motors and drives. if you are smart enough to steal 3 in a night, you are smart enough to have them stripped and dump the hull in less then a day.( my guess is less then 4 hours)

I'm thinking that transporting the hulk and dumping it is almost guaranteed to result in someone seeing it and notifying the cops.

Remember the Boat : Card Shark ? it was stripped of all hardware and the boat itself was run through a shredder and gone in seconds !

Yeah, that little bit of unpleasantness was documented fully on the forum. It was a different situation, the boat was taken from a shop in a rural area just 20 miles from the Texas border. I think it was at the chop shop in New Jersey within 48 hours.

It's funny that Leon Derebery was accused of complicity and intentionally employing a second rate camera system, yet no one has cast any aspersions on Teague for having nothing more than a padlock protecting millions of dollars.

Not at all, I do not throw stones or play games. But having worked hundreds of these expect the unexpected, so let me share one brief story.
A few years ago I worked the theft of a big Fountain from Havasu. Got a big tip called in. I contacted my friends in LE, they spent considerable time on it and within 3 days arrested 3 tweakers, ex cons, etc in Banning. they hauled the boat all the way from Havazoo to Banning. the boat was taken apart to a degree but rebuilt as far as I know to pre-theft condition. None of the fools have any boat theft priors.

But they bragged a bit to others, and one called me, he got the $$.

This really sucks. I have been skiing the Catalina Ski Race the last four years behind boat 277 the 38' Fountain that was stolen. Got a text yesterday about it. I feel terrible and sick about it; I couldn't imagine owning the boat and having this happen. My driver (the owner) and his family couldn't be better people. I hope they find it, but more importantly I hope they find the azzholes that are responsible for this.

Well that's stupid IMO, considering the amount of money he has inside his shop and out on the grounds and knowing all too well the problem all of us in this area have had with the homeless, just plain stupid.

If I see a homeless dude with one of these in his shopping cart, I'll be sure to call the cops.

I don't think any of them would fit in said shopping cart, but considering all the theft that occurs in and around GT and my shop due to the homeless population security cameras are a must. GT is also a storage lot with a pass code entry from what I understand so again IMO cameras should be a must.

So take another crack with the lame joke.

Ya, know not to kick a place while its down. But a few years ago I took my little jet boat there for some very minor work. After I was told it would be 3 or 4 days until they could even look at it, ( I was worked during the week, so it would have to be left there) I kindly asked if it could be left inside at night. Its an 18ft, open engine compartment with a blower, super chiller and all the stuff that goes with it. Its not a shitty boat!

I was rudely told to (this is a direct quote) "look around, there are a lot bigger and more expensive boats here and they are left outside all the time, don't worry about it "
After I looked at that stupid jack-ass like he had two muther f'n heads. I picked up my toys and went to another sand box, never to return.

So ya I, think I made the right move. And I have no pitty for that joint. Only the victims.

I heard the report on KFI also. They said that they were on trailers and those were stolen too. [emoji41]

Gotta love the media

-Report the breaking story 10 days late
-Clarify the boats were on trailers, which are also considered stolen

Nope...those sons 'o bitches just drug 'em down the highway sideways...and left behind no evidence!

Lol

I know. Its all good man.
I just wanted to share my business cause they thought a little jet boat outside at night was no big deal in that shitty area, with no cameras, security ETC.
I wouldn't even park my car there let alone leave my lil turd there.

It's actually a fine area now that the homeless encampment is gone, that was the only reason there was any issues.
