Isn't LCB the better (easier to buy/set-up) option?

Seems the most capable 20' boat.

But poker run-capable?

Too small.

I have a friend with a slightly larger 24 ft Eurocat. We have done a few poker runs together. He wants a 28 Skater

We went to a run on Saturday. Biggest cat was a 36 ft Nor Tech. Biggest V was a 40+ ft Fountain. Smallest boat was a 17 ft Argo with some kids in it. Way too small to hang out with the big boys. A 28 Skater is the minimum.

Talking about poker runs, is the Church planning to attend Friday’s Unleashed Poker Run in Discovery Bay?

Don't like the look, but that's a contender.

A new 2020 with twin 300Rs was listed for $174K.

And Randy Corson seems like a great guy to work with.

Did you ever get a chance to look at Another One?

Bigger than I'd like, but a single engine DW-28 could be another option.

I've ridden in Another One a few times. You literally can't compare a 28 DW to a 28 Skater, they are VERY different boats. The DW will not like the rough water, the tunnel is very shallow & wide, makes it very fast in flat to moderate water.

How fast is very fast?

A 28 Skater is the minimum.

That may be to be "competitive."

But seems like HydroSkreamin had a great time in his 23 Daytona.

That's good enough for me.

I also remember lake p.a.l. once posting:

Adrenaline is still ripping thru my system!! Had a few great runs against MUCH bigger boats with 3-4 times the horsepower of our old turd. Gave it everything I had against a 38' Cig with 2200hp thru nasty washing machine water but he got me at the end. He came over to me at the docks after & shook my hand & said he had no idea a "lil" 308 Skater with sewing machines would damn near beat his ass.

It's pretty fun to beat expectations.

You can have a great time in a small boat, but if you actually want to participate and not just watch, a 28 Skater is approximately the minimum.

Now, you can get a 23 Daytona and take it to a poker run, but it won’t be a good poker run boat.

So, it depends on how important poker runs are to your choice of boat.

Heck, we watched last year’s Unleashed Poker Run from Kevin’s Mirage. We had a great time, but you would not buy a Mirage for poker runs just as you would not buy a 28 Skater for drag racing.

Sure.

To be more clear, I'm not interested in a good poker run boat as much as I am a low cost/hassle boat that can do poker runs (and maybe surprise some).

Just curious what that boat would be.

Would you have run your 21 Shadow, lake p.a.l.?

We used to surprise a LOT of much larger & way faster boats when the water got rough. The 308 is a much bigger boat than a 28 Skater. I pounded that 308 thru shit water here at LOTO & none of the outboard boats would get past me when it was rough.

I've run our Shadow all over LOTO thru shit water, no chance I can even come close to getting near or past HydroSkreamin. The Shadow does very well but not nearly as good as his 23 Daytona since he completely redesigned the bottom of that boat & has +/- 180hp more than me

Whereas a 28 Skater barely makes it past 120 mph with DBR 300XS power…
They feel like drastically different boats. The DW accelerates better & has a bigger hop zone but once that clears out its gone & a Skater isn't catching it on civil water. Best way I can describe is DW is a 28 STV kinda. I've driven a few of Bullys 32 DW with various power & they were better than the 28 in moderate water but less than zero chance they would hang with our old 308 Skater in moderate to rough water

How would 1 of these do with an outboard if u paid special attention to CG
It has been done…My friend, Bob Wartinger, went 176.55 in a 620 hp Evinrude V8 in a stretched Hydro in 1989 !! Record still stands. Bob does the time trials in the Oroville afterbay every year. Great guy.

Not all people can get spark to all cylinders on an Evinrude.

Getting one to run 176.55 mph is beyond impressive.
The stories about the lead up to the record were wild.
Bob hit a mud hen at 160 mph that literally went thru the hull. Fortunately, the trailer was in the water and Bob pulled it on the trailer while sinking.
Saved the boat. Had to patch the hull to summit the record the following day. The boat, last I heard, is in a restaurant, on a wall in Florida. Bob is still around, and currently holds more world records than anyone.

Scream and Fly article on Bob Wartimger ….
Dated 2001…Bob was approaching 120 world speed records. He has raced everything and was phenomenal with his results.

And how is the mud hen doing?

I hit a mud duck at 70 on my arm in parker. It exploded! Felt like a punch, left me with a dead arm and a very messy interior. The bruise it left had wings and a head. Glad it didn't hit me in the face

On a single engine cat or tunnel hull, you really want to avoid getting them in the tunnel.

Big birds break props.

You got to post that. Normally they just dive down. These 2 were flying perpendicular to my bow, one made it then out of the corner of my eye, I saw the second. Blood and green shit all over my interior. I was able to look back and see it bounce off the cowling. Thankfully that was not with the light weight mercury cowling. Hurt like hell! Gotta good laugh, had good friends help me clean the interior back up. The shape of the bruise was the funny part. So black and blue it looked like a f**k up tattoo. Cheers
Happy Friday

Question for the outboard guru's: I have been trying to get current boat close to eighty I have been let down at every turn. So instead of dumping more money into it what would be the cost of an entry level outboard that could put a smile on my face😁?I boat at mead so if the wind picks up it needs to handle some chop.
Thanks
Andy
PS it needs to seat 4 with 2 ice chests, budget 15K

I can spend a more and It can be an older boat if it's been taken care of.
