Hey Jerry!
Thanks as always for keeping our history alive through your pictures and videos. 👍

I have seen the picture of the Unblown Long Deck before, but never in color.
One of the next boats on my build list is the Long Deck below.
It has been re-gelled in the original “Cold Fire” green (Bergeron told me a lot of the early boats were that green because he had barrels of gel that color).
We are going to build the boat in the theme of the early longdeck.
I’ve already got a set of tall ram tube injectors(Hilborn not Enderles as pictured).
Won’t be a clone by any means, just think it’ll be cool throwback look.
Is there any chance you have any more pictures of this LongDeck?
Appreciate it.

I’ll have to look. Julian Jr. talks about cut down cold fires too. Interesting right?

Nevermind, I looked at the other side. The graphics were playing tricks on me.

Sad day in Sammons Family history.
For 45 of the 54 years there has been a Litchfield flatbottom or runnerbottom in our possession between our Dad and the 3 brothers.
In all, we’ve had 8 of them.
Brother Eric’s rolled out of the garage yesterday behind the new owners truck.
I’ll bet we’re not done yet!😂

Super hard to tell for sure.
Looking at one of the first pictures you posted and comparing it to the last ones, if you compare the bottom bend in the zoomies to the top of the gunnel as well as the distance from the bottom of the tank to the gunnel, the two boats look about the same. The cap paint and number size definitely adds to the deception.
Maybe?

Thanks for the long deck picture!
Now I just need to find a decent set of stacked tanks and a couple of barrel style seats!
Anyone know of either around?

The Hobbit Sanger is so good looking. We’re they competitive with a Sanger?

They crashed a lot of them and were usually behind the b boats. That's what I remember. Sanger sponsored Chuck Boyd's racing program so that was cool.

Dave, give me a couple days to get over to the shop. I think I may have a set like you are looking for. I'll get better pictures. I don't think I have the mounts but I'm sure you could fab them pretty easily.

Grich drove the bubble deck Hobbit.
He told me it was about the most illl handling boat he’d ever driven.
Flipped it and broke his back.
Casted from the chest down if I remember right.

Gordon Jennings in the Liberty though was more than competitive.
He battled Julian every race and bested him fairly often.
This was back when boat racing drew huge crowds.
Hundreds of dollars were bet on every K final.
When he was killed in a flip, Julian hung a one bouy and was the first one in the water with Gordy.
Heard the detailed story from Julian himself.
Mr. Jennings was a Heck of driver and great guy!
He was a frequent visitor up at the Carlsbad Lagoon where we hung out.

Yeah, Grich and then Bob Long in the white and purple boat.

The Liberty Sanger did quite well and had some epic battles with Julian. We know the Hobbit Sangers were circle runners but even Gordy doesn’t know what exact hull Ron Woodruff’s Liberty was. I know this magazine clip says it’s a 19’ but I would guess it was a gull bottom. Maybe it was a gull bottom 19 made special….? The boat supposedly still exists and was last seen in socal a number of years ago.

Larry Dahlhoff bought one of the Sanger K14 boats for a river play toy. Built a blown gas motor and said it was an evil handling beast! Played with the plates and got better but still was a handful. Larry gave praise to Bob Long for driving the Sanger as a K boat!

Heath Hiebert bought one of the D’Cucci K14 boats and ran it as a Pro Stock boat for several years. It was a great handling boat.

Neither of us are on par with Matt Koch but your pics are at least as good as mine and often significantly better. 🤘 :p 🤘

Thanks for contributing here!

Thanks Jerry. As luck would have it I have time on my hands. 😀 I've needed to cull the chaff and organize these for awhile, so now seems like a good time. I have plenty more I can share, and it would be cool to start shooting again.

Larry built the Sanger when he moved to Big River for a river cruiser. He sold it to a family in Big River and I never saw the boat again. I don’t know if the people he sold the boat to still have it or if they still live in Big River. The last time I saw the boat was at Irvine lake in your picture.
