Even the ambulance had Craiger’s. The origin of fast boats - love it

Used to be a 70 plus mph boat and it will be again!
1972 Biesemeyer Longdeck(ski deck).
Boat was originally green and has been brought back to its original color.
Not a Cold Fire but same color.
Was told a lot of the early boats were this color because Julian had a bunch of green Gelcost.
I’ll be restoring it with all original hardware except for all new aluminum parts.
We are going for the look of the original Cold Fire but not a clone.
The coolest piece so far is this early 70’s Moon Stsck tank.
Our ol buddy JJ Beaver had it and it is identical to the one Julian ran in the early years(they boxed it in when they put the blown motor in later).
The boat will have a stack injected big block Chevy fior power.
Gonna be a cool project when we get going on it!

Some shots of the tank and a couple of the Cold Fire with the same design tank.

Engine for Long Deck.
Now I just need to talk him into the proper valve covers for the period.👍

Had my crew over today to strip this 1962 Lavey Craft out to send out for floors and paint.
We will put it back together period correct with an 8 degree strut and a Casale split case going to a blown 392 Chrysler.
When I say “period correct” I mean I will always put modern designed parts in a higher horsepower boat for safety, like a Casale with a whirl away or push pull cable for the throttle instead of hydraulic. This one had a nice one though.
All of the rigging will be done with no more than a lathe and a mill like were around in the 60’s.
I also try to use correct fasteners and hoses as well.

Lovin all the Lavey pictures!
20 years ago my friend, Clyde Dedrick, bought an old Lavey and brought it to me to get running.
After looking the boat over and noting that the rigging was not the standard ski boat style, I told him that this must have been a Marathon Boat back in the day.
I got it running and seaworthy and we took it to Mission Bay. It handled and worked great!
He took the boat up to Lavey and Al said in fact it was his old Marathon boat!
Clyde ended up selling it to them and where it went, not sure.
Would have been awesome to restore it back to its original livery and setup.
Hopefully it turns up someday!
Check out the stout rigging!
It was really cool to get it on the water!

Is this Al's old boat? I've been looking for it since I joined the site. It was for sale a few years ago. After numerous inquiries, I think they sold it to a friend of the family..I would LOVE to have that boat. I think it used to be blue...day late dollar short situation..the thread is still on this site somewhere

Yes it was for sale a few years back by Lavey.
I had a buyer that wanted me to restore it back to the original Blue and rigged for Marathon racing.
I contacted them, but, as you stated, it went to a family member or a friend of the family.
My hope is someday it shows up for sale and we can get it back to original in honor of Mr. Lavey.
What an awesome tribute that would be to one of the legends of our sport!👍🏁
Honored I got to drive it!!

@Clank123 one of my most memorable days was the day I met Clyde. I bought an old Ellis trailer from him and he spent the afternoon showing me around his property. We looked through all the hulls he had out back and he showed me all around his enormous shop. He had a story for each and every piece! I didn't know him well, but I truly enjoyed the time we spent together. I'll never forget that black flat he had inside that didn't have any run-time on it. What a gorgeous boat!!! 👍

Question for ya...I've got some stress cracks on th bow. Any recommendations? Should I find a woodworking guy? Also, what do you recommend for the clear stain?
Thanks 🎄🎅

He was certainly one of a kind!
Did a lot of things with him over the years.
The wood deck Sanger the Ronnie Bolton built for him was really cool.
I helped him and Susie sell off the stuff in the “museum” when it was time.
We weren’t able to sell the “Black Woodrow” and the Dragster I did for him in time.
I brought both of them home and got them detailed and ready to sell.
The boat hadn’t been fired in at least 15 years and that was only when it was first built. Went through the Carbs, ignition and put a new impeller in it and she fired right up!
Boat is now back east and the Dragster is in the Lions Museum.
Sure miss him.
He was one of the great characters in our sport.

Yup the wood deck owners inevitable problem!
You know they’re gonna come apart and crack, just a matter of when.
Nothing prettier though!
Problem always is, how do you do a small section.
The Bad Enuff boat deck was done by a guy up in the Bay Area. He did a beautiful job on it. I can get the contact.
Billy would have an option for sure.
You might also reach out for Pete Gioroux, he’s really good with this type of project I would think for sure.
If I remember right, one of the West Systems products was used on the deck.

sweet setup!!

you dont see too many older mopars in boats all that often. My dad has 64 Sport Fury with the exact same engine in it.
That’s awesome!
This boat was built by the owner’s father in 1965.
He ordered the 426 Wedge as a crate motor to put in the boat.
So, all the parts are original.
When it came to me the engine was long blocked and painted Chevy orange!
Got the carburetors redone and built the linkage for them.
Tried to make it as stock appearing as possible(decided to make stainless fuel lines and delete the twin inline fuel filters for a cleaner look, also MSD distributor with the cap painted black)
I had a couple pictures to go off off to machine the carb to Nicson flame arrestor adapters.
Tween us…I used early 60’s Ford Sparkplug wire separators😂

That is super sweet. You don't see a lot of 426 wedge motors period, let alone in a boat. Great job.

For the life of me can’t remember the boat in the near lane, but the far lane is Larry Bitter in the BGF HiJacker, the best running Sanger in the class.
