He makes films and wanted to do a movie self funded - he bought Tesla stock when it just came out (he was one of the first owners in LA with a S model) - he sold it all in Feb of this year to fund the movie !!!

OUCH imagine holding it for the past 6-7 years only to see if go 4X in the last 4 months.

They ranked last place in June with 250 problems per 100 cars. Land Rovers have fewer problems on average.

Consumer reports show they are #1 in customer satisfaction.

There are problems with teslas but no worse than anyone at this point.
A Y lost a glass roof yesterday. They gave him a new car.
Contrast with a buddy that lost an engine in a 300X pulling away from the dealership and they wouldnt replace the car.

They are the only growing auto manufacturer in the US in 2020 and have moved from 18nth to 10 place this year.

The model 3, y, and S completely dominated their respective segments.
The X is midpack but still growing.

I still don’t get why they debuted Model x when they did.

I would argue satisfaction and quality are 2 different things in this case. I dont think the cars are crappy, but the Tesla owners I know seem to go to great lengths to hide the fact that their car is in the shop when they need repairs. I’ve found that consistent since 2014 when the Model S came out.
No matter what happens to the cars, they are rabid fans of the brand.

I put over 5K hard driving miles @7000 rpm's on the track since April that's telling of longevity of Mazda engines. I've been a Miata fan boy since this year. This last weekend's Lucky Dog [ brung what you got ] overall winner was a NA Miata. It was a endurance race, 9 hrs first day and 8 hrs second day. ,50 cars entered, 28 made it through.
For a commuter, grocery getter, I'm totally agreed to have a EV car if priced affordably. I'd still prefer a hybrid to get me home in case of electrical gremlins though.

The stock is currently emotionally valued vs fundamentally valued, but the valuation is what it is.

What he's done is amazing, despite his own mouthiness and unlikeability.
