When I was about 8 yrs old (1970) my family and I were at a ice skating rink in Santa Rosa Ca. where my cousin lived. A man walks out of an office and my aunt says I think that's Charles Schultz and tells me to go over and ask him. I go ask and he replies...."nope, never heard of him" with a big smile on his face and nods at my aunt. Charles Shultz is the cartoonist who created the snoopy/charley Brown cartoon characters. He owned the skating rink too.

I’ve meet Jeremy McGrath a few times, one time at Supercross he came up to my buddy and I and thanked us for wearing pink to support breast cancer awareness. At the time his wife had it.
Another time I was flying home from an off-road race back east and was standing in line for the bathroom, Jeremy was in front of me and turned around and struck up a conversation. Super nice guy.

I raced pit bikes down in Mexico against Kyle LeDuc (R.I.P.) I had no idea it was him, just that his bike was the fastest in the pack and I was racing him super aggressive, I felt bad after but he was a good sport.

I bought a car off Scott Underwood who was the drummer for the band Train, he was a super cool guy, I never alluded to the fact that I knew who he was and I got a great deal on the car too.

I had breakfast with Daisy Fuentes, I was on A.F.V and my Grandpa struck up a conversation with her that lead us to be invited to breakfast the next morning. I was 4-5 years old so I don’t remember much, but my Grandpa was stoked lol.

They say you never want to meet your heroes, you’ll only be disappointed. BUT, I just happened to meet and talk to a skiing hero of mine last weekend at the boat races, Glen Plake. Talked to him and his wife Kim for a while and they could not have been nicer. I follow Plake on social media and he and his wife lead a life of adventure for sure.

I have met and worked on a few famous peoples cars. The most famous of coarse is Eddie Van Halen. First time I met him was at his house. I wouldn't have known who he was if I wasn't told where I was going. Became friends with him and got some cool concert tickets from him. He got me box seats at the last show at Hollywood bowl with Vip passes. Took a long time female friend to the show. We went back to the vip area and were just hanging out when Eddie and his entourage come out of the back for a meet and greet and pics. He sees me standing there and waves and says " let me finish this up and I will be over" Ok. He comes over and my female friend is just awestruck. " Come on lets go to back stage and you can say hi to Alex." We go back to the dressing rooms and in one room is Wolf and Valerie sitting there. The ne went down and chatted with Alex for a bit. Still talk and text Alex on occasion.

Also met and worked on Mischa Barton's Cadillac. Also Met and worked on a couple of cars for Jerry Cantrell. Cool dude... A few others over the years.
Any Sammy stories? Watched a few YT vids of Sammy recently and he had a lot of car and Eddie stories.

I grew up in Napa. As soon as I saw 1970 and Santa Rosa I kind of figured where you were going. 😁

Has Jake Busey ever been around there?
Many years ago I was working at Jim Fain’s shop in Ventura. He hired me as a cylinder head guy as I had worked for Bob Hayes and Darrel Coker, and had made a little bit of an impression on a few pro stock guys.
Fain would sometimes have racers show up on the western races for some late night emergency work.

Anyway, Jake Busey would come around in a mint ‘66 SB Chevelle that I did the heads on. I don’t think we did the whole engine, can’t remember but I remember tricking out the heads.
He was way cool then. Always had a couple Hollywood looking starlets with him, but he was extremely down to earth.
Struck me as a genuine car guy in the making.
Never did see his dad!!😂😂

Brad Anderson, Marmaduke cartoonist, was a great customer of ours & became very close to the family. The Andersons ultimately moved to Tucson but still came to us to service & buy cars.

Mammoth Mountain. Ski trip. Enjoying lunch time at McCoy Station, the mid mountain restaurant. I see this cute blond mom. I think, if she had some make up on she could be in Hollywood or something. Turns out that's Naomi Watts. A minute later I'm in the food line next to Liev Schreiber. His kids are being wacky and we chit chat about kids. He was super nice and I didn't let on I knew who he was.

Discount Tire a few years ago. I'm in line behind some older guy with long scraggly hair, boots, jeans and a black worn sports coat. He's asking all these dumb questions. I'm thinking who is this Gene Simmons KISS wannabe mother fukker and why is he taking so long. Gawd! I see his face as he's leaving, I realize its Ace Frehley. LOL First name is Paul. Counter guy confirmed it was him. But he had no idea what a KISS was.

I met several of the former Mayors of San Diego, County Supervisors and Police Chiefs at various charity functions.
I have a pic somewhere me and skateboard pro Tony Hawk.
Chatted up Billy Ray Smith former Charger and his wife the evening new anchor Kimberly Hunt at an event.
Quoted a few jobs for other Chargers players over the years.
Fixed some damage at Phillip Rivers' house. Lots of kids are rough on things.
Secured the Heaven's Gate house after the mass suicide incident. It was creepy.
Worked on Liberace's house in Hollywood. 5 wet bars! Movie theater, red velvet rumpus room. Glass doors and humidity contols on the closets. He was long gone by the time I was involved with it though.
Served foreclosure papers to Bob Mackie the old dress designer.
Got the stink eye from Motley Crue's Nikki Sixx when I was hitting on his date. LOL I didn't know. He's tall in those show boots.
John Cena and some drunk chick he was using were next to us in line at the Southwest terminal on a flight coming back from Cabo. LOL He was fairly preoccupied. Didn't say anything to him.

Also I met River Dave's mom. She's cool!

First time I saw Gene years ago, he was walking through the garages at Indy. I'm thinking "Who is this short bushy haired turd and why are those four hot girls walking with him?"

On a cruise met the actress Debbie Pollack in the hot tub….. from the movie Sixteen Candles …. yep she still had the big ones.

At one of the shows in Irvine one of the shows that has the White horses under a huge white tent. called Cavalia if I remember correctly. Sat next to Jay Leno…. Very cool, down to earth guy!

I introduced myself to to Burt Reynolds at a party when I was a buzzed teenager. Couldn't wait to tell my Mom as she loved him. Imagine our disappointment when I found out he was an impersonator, haha That's all I got.......

Richard Pryor at his house when he was bedridden.
Had a sailfish mount over the bed. Asked him where he caught it. Response was " Shit, I don't fucking remember what the fuck I fucking had for fucking breakfast. How the fuck could I fucking remember where I fucking caught that fucking fish?" Cracked me up.😄

I was training for an ironman and doing laps at la fitness pool one afternoon. A black guy walked in with a little entourage and a guy who was clearly his trainer. I realized shortly afterwards it was Adrian Peterson from the Vikings who was on my fantasy football team.at the time. I kept doing my laps trying not to stare and his trainer wanted him to swim a few laps to warm up.

The dude literally almost drown in a 3 foot pool, flailing around and no idea what to do. I was swimming by a kick board and threw it to him. He said thanks and I was.about done so i left

We were at Powder Mountain this past Feb and a girl was skiing with an instructor and falling a lot. I fell by her and wished her well and she did the same. I went down a different run on my way. When I got down yo the lift I found out it was Shaline Woodley.

Was in line at a Dodgers game about 10 years back and saw Henry Winkler in the VIP line. I went over to him, shook his hand, and thanked him for the years of entertainment. He seemed genuinely flattered and humble and gracious not one bit put off, looked me in the eye, smiled and said "thank you." I've since heard he's a pretty down-to-earth kinda guy.

My other claim to fame is going to Coachella one year with my wife. We're in the VIP section (comp tix of course...) and she sees Jared Leto back when he was "it." I was like Jared Leno? Is he like Jay Leno's kid or something (I don't follow Hollywood...)? "L-E-T-O Leto, not Leno" the wife is yelling at me. She starts to stalk the poor guy around the VIP section and finally grows the cajones to ask the guy for a pic. He was totally cool about it and obliges. My wife hands her phone to her drunk husband for the long awaited highly anticipated Kodak moment, and to this day I have no idea how I f'ed it up, but the pic came out completey blank... Still paying for that one...

I almost showed him “My license to Thrill”. We watched him absolutely bomb Cornice Bowl on a pair of downhill boards. I think he made 4 turns.

Attended dinner hosted by Mario Andretti and his wife after one of those Vegas motor speedway deals where you drive an Indy lights car at 170. Perfect gentleman and his wife too.

Was hosted by Ferrari at the Singapore Grand Prix when Alonso was driving. Met him in the hospitality suite and pit garage. We had passes for everything Ferrari at that race. Never forget. Got a bunch of pictures from that one.

Wife and I headed down to see Toby Keith at the San Diego fair many moons ago. Sitting at the hotel bar and we hear this voice.. it’s unmistakably Toby Keith ordering a bud light right next to me.. Very humble and friendly

got a couple
I just retired as a Matco dealer and I had a old man Ed Ranzanski that had a shop in my area that rebuilt aircraft engines but he also had a little area of the shop with old sprint cars and the last Indy car that Ed ran when he owned a IRL team Davey Hamilton drove it. So for years he would tell me stories of him loaning money to Roger Penske to get started in business and he also told me that he got Roger to hire Ryan Neuman who grew up with his kids. I just always thought he was just a 90 year old man talking. He never bought anything but I enjoyed taking race with him every Monday. So one Monday I go walking into the office and there is Ryan Neuman sitting in Eds chair with his feet on the desk and Roger Penske and Ed are sitting in a couple of other chairs talking like best friends. I was introduced and we talked for a couple of hours. Roger was really nice and at the time Al Unser Jr lived 2 houses down from me so we called him.

Of course seeing as my son drag races we are great friends with alot of them, my son Justin Lamb grew up racing with Shawn Langdon, Leah Preuitt/Stewart and those kids. We are also family friends with Antron Brown and keep our stuff at his house in Indy when we are racing back east and he comes out to my house when in Vegas. Just about every NHRA driver out there I know on a first name basis.

My dad used to live next door to Terri Nunn (Berlin) and my uncle dated her before she was famous. Wound up being a roady for her in the early years. Us kids got signed albums when we went and visited.
Met Scott Ian (Anthrax) at Magic Mountain years ago.
Saw Steve Austin at a lunch spot in Escondido
David Baileys brother is a friend. Mitchel Bailey
Sat next to Tony Hawk a few months ago eating lunch at a great deli in Vista
Talked with Scott Eastwood on the phone about a job we were doing for his place in Encinitas or Cardiff (not sure)
Met Jessi Combs in Vegas at the RIO Sky room . Sema thing.
Thats about all my celebrity encounters.

If celebrities are your "thing" then I guess I've been pretty lucky. I have bullshitted with John Elway, Wayne Gretzky and a few others while working on their boats. I actually had John's cell number in my work phone. Anytime he had a problem with his boat, he would give me a call. For the offroad guys here, I have hung out with Scoop and Bonny at their place in Bonsall. Funny story about Scoop. Back around '99 his son Cash decided he wanted to go racing so Scoop bought him a class 2. Now you would think that it would be a first-class money is no object deal right? Nope. Nice car still though. We are at Barstow for an MDR race in February with Scoop, Cash and a bunch of our friends. About halfway through the race the guy co-driving with Cash gets sick and can't finish the race. Scoop looks at me, runs to his truck and grabs one of his race suits and comes back n hands it to me! He says, "you're about my size, put this on and get in the car"!! I think we finished second! My uncle and Scoop were very good friends. This next story is my favorite celebrity story. One of my customers had an extremely large car collection in Phoenix. I just so happened to be down there for work and called him up to go see his collection. The day before, my friend and I were at Barrett-Jackson and there were a few of Don Prudhomes' funny cars there. My friend was not an NHRA guy asked who this Don guy was, so I explained who the "Snake" was. So, we are at the car collection the next day with atleast a hundred other people (his hangar where all the cars were was probably 30,000 sqft). Immediately I start noticing that these arent just everyday people. Unbeknownst to me, my customer was a huge fan of Nascar and NHRA and was friends with many big names in the sports. Jeff Gordon, Richard Childress, Rusty Wallace, Richard Petty, Dale Jr, Don Prudhomme and literally dozens of others were there! My customer was talking with Jeff when I walked up to thank him for letting me come. He introduced me to Jeff and we chatted a bit and then I left them to go look at cars. So, my buddy and I are looking at a car on the second floor and up the stairs comes the Snake himself!! We chatted a bit about whatever car we were looking at and he went on his way. I looked at my friend and told him who it was we were talking to! He wasn't quite as excited as I was. Throughout the day I met and spoke with so many racing legends that I forgot most! However, I never once asked for a picture or an autograph. To me, we were all just a bunch of car guys looking at cool shit and I was thankful to be "one of the guys". It is an experience that will never be duplicated, and I will forever cherish that day.

I have been an automotive tech my whole career, back in 1984/85 the shop I worked at was in Arcadia Ca, the building next door was rented by Motley Crew and it was used by their roadies. (Clyde & too long ago to remember) we had keys and the security code to their building as there were a few times we had to send them stuff while they were on tour, but that’s a different story -
Well, one day I looked out into our parking lot and there sat a bad ass Lambo with no wing on the back, of course I had to go investigate, Clyde introduced me to Eddie, I found out the wing was missing because the car was 10mph faster without it, also found out you had to open the door to get a Big Mac because the windows didn’t open far enough, we talked cars for a while, then he left, Clyde asked me if I knew who that was, I said a guy with a Bitchin’ car? Turns out it was Eddie Van Halen!! He seemed super cool and nice!!!!

I met Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul and Anna Gunn on the set of Breaking Bad when my son was "Baby Holly".

I met Karem Abdul Jabar about 3 months ago in LAX.

No, that was Roger Murdock.

Went to HS with with Scott Whyte (played in the mighty ducks)…and used to hang out with Matthew Fox at a club in Manhattan Beach….i may or may not owe him a bunch of money I bet and lost on a game of Dice.

He used to have a BMW M coupe…it was fun.

Wife and I headed down to see Toby Keith at the San Diego fair many moons ago. Sitting at the hotel bar and we hear this voice.. it’s unmistakably Toby Keith ordering a bud light right next to me.. Very humble and friendly View attachment 1432704
Toby Keith and his band was the house band at a local bar for years. I used to see him often. This is his first "tour bus".

View attachment 1432628
Lol that’s funny shit, him and his wife were in my pit checking my boat out, which happens to be about 10 feet in front of you, the orange jet boat, have absolutely no idea who he is but that’s funny
