Looking to replace the rub rail. How hard of a task is this? The website I’m looking at is taco marine.

It’s gonna depend on whether it’s through bolted and what kinda run rail you are installing. Stainless is much harder to work with then the plastic ones but looks better

Thanks! Got a bit overwhelmed with all the choices. We always thought the black rub rail looked a little off, but was told a white one might look off too if the boats not a pure white.

Has anyone had these items re-coated? It’s now purple and faded. They might have always been purple, but would like it to be a blue color. I was thinking it might save some money having them redone. I want to say I have heard of an Eddie marine doing it, but have to do more research.

Finding a good powder coater if your best bet. The material all those bezels, caps, and knobs are made of is terrible. Anodizing has a very limited life span on that stuff.

Thanks! I’ll check around for a powder coat shop around the IE. I think these were “fusion coated” from what we were told.

I spent the morning removing everything from the inside of the boat. The detail guy was coming to clean the interior today. Oh man, I almost cried. Vinyl feels hard, the chairs bottom seams were loosen the last few years, but now it’s pretty bad. The boat was covered, but spending a summer outside and a few months in the winter really did a number on the upholstery. I believe they even had it in storage while waiting for the gel coat guys schedule. I texted Robert that I’m thinking the Howard needs new upholstery first rather than the Daytona. So, if it runs right all summer, I guess this boat is going to riverside upholstery instead of the daytona. I’d like to do it now, but Robert is right on making sure nothing else goes wrong for the summer. I guess it’s time after 34 years…

We didn’t do our normal wipe down and condition after each trip since we were frustrated with boat since it kept having to go back for a different issue. I think that really played a factor here. Lesson learned. Always do your cleaning regime so you don’t pay for it later!

I don’t want to post the before video. This is a lot cleaner now. The areas I circled have got worse over the last year.

The upholstery shop across from Mk smith can get that fixed up.
Is it Chino auto upholstery? I can swing by there today or tomorrow and show them the pictures.

My interior is similar, looks fine IMO- helps keep my OCD/ Boat Nazi level down, I know if I put a new interior in I’ll be back to asshole level. Keep it and run it. Most people that aren’t RDP boaters never notice unless you point it out to them.
I was thinking the worse before it got detailed. Some of the vinyl felt hard, and I noticed more things wrong with it than I remembered. It could just be that we haven’t seen it for a while. The detail helped a lot. I was just disappointed that we didn’t clean up after every trip and you could see the build up. We also want a kid soon so everyone is telling us to just wait on the new interior.

I almost think the opposite. Kids don't really do anything the first few years so it won't be that hard to keep clean. But 6 years from now they will be splilling juice and cheetos and by then the interior will be used and you won't care as much. If you wait in 6 years this interior will be falling apart and you will be forced to get new interior and then you will be a nazi on the kid for spilling anything.

I can personally tell you in the last 3 years, Ive rarely done any boating with my little one. Its too hot most of the time , too cold, or honestly, not enjoyable.

Im sure ill get shit from the hardcores river rats that tell me there kid was floating in the river at 1 day old, but Im not into that program.

So just take that as an opinion if you decide baby is in future:)

@ChrisV dossnt count. He is young and brings his kids everywhere 😂

Me and Chris v are pretty similar 2 kids 4 and 3 years old lol. They’ve been boating since 2 and 6 weeks old. If it wasn’t for my wife I’d skip till they were walking. Once they walked it was a peace of cake at the river lol

Personally I would just buy new hardware. Those switch ends are not pricey and it’s something I do on most all of my boats once I get them. Probably cheaper than stripping and coating.
Pricing out everything would be over $700 new. Don’t have an idea on what coating would cost. Not sure which route is cheaper.

I enjoy boating more than Robert. He would probably not have a problem taking time off, but it’s my happy place and I don’t say “no” to anything regarding the boat. I have friends that are either or as well. Some have taken time off until they are older and some are bringing the kids as soon as they can. My dad put me on a boat between 6-8 weeks and camped at crazy horse with a bunch of other guys. So I’m thinking I would be similar, but I also don’t know how I would act until it happens. Also, I’m really lucky that his mom has a house on the river with a beach so that would make it easier.

I’m hoping you are boating more now living in AZ! If I lived there, I’d do May-July, and not boat until late September to November to avoid the extreme weather.

With young kids you boat until early June then start back up end of sept

Chemical dipping.
Might be able to do it yourself. Looks easy peazy.

I had purple bezels. To update the boat I went with the stainless steel / chrome look. View attachment 1478734 View attachment 1478735 View attachment 1478736
That looks nice! Thanks for the recommendation to marine west. Talked to them today about our hardware. Some of the items are an older style and the new styles won’t work. They are going to refinish some of the hardware that can’t be ordered new, and then order some new items. They made it super easy for us.

Robert made a plate for the old stereo box that was removed. Will have it powder coated and possible have someone copy the Howard logo on it. This will have to do until we get new upholstery one day.

Just got the parts back from Marine Industries West. Everything looks great! It cost us about $500 to have everything stripped and powder coated. Hoping to get everything put back on this weekend.

Robert ordered new trailer lights from shadow trailers and he is going to rewire the trailer next weekend since we keep having intermittent light problems.

Then desert storm?
No:/ also going the weekend after for my birthday. We have bad timing this year. Robert has never been to desert storm either. So he was looking forward to going to one of the events, but hoping we have better luck next year. Looks like we are doing the first weekend of May, memorial, Father’s Day and the weekend after the 4th.

Bob at Marine Industries is the best. I either had my hardware recoated or just bought new from him for two different boats. For custom and off the shelf products, he’s the best in the biz. High quality material and attention to detail. Plus he’s a nice guy.

Just a little of their custom work…etched steering wheel cap with their trim switch mount.
