I can see that with specialty things. We have a guy in town here that has been building a motor for a Kindig project...since the first of the year. But that said, this guy in the post seems to have a relatively normal setup, not too much custom, and certainly nothing hand fabbed. With your builder, is he just out that far, or would he have everything that long? Being months out, even a year, is pretty normal for resto shops and custom car builders. Like you said, if they're good, other people want them too.

I could tell a tail but until my friend has his boat back I will keep quiet.

I have 2 questions:
1 - Who steals a 496
2 - Is Richard Sanchez a pseudonym

To bad this stuff happens as it really doesn't have to. I logged damn near 40 years in the industry and never had a problem. Sure some things happened but not of this nature.
The wife just came in and asked if I didn't use to do work for Steve Leprohon? I said yes and she said have a look at RDP. This is his kid but I use to do outboard work for his Dad some 30 years ago when he was in Elsinore. He was good guy as was his wife but I guess something happened when he got to Havasu because I heard some stories that weren't to flattering.
Hope everybody comes out good on this deal and it doesn't give the industry another black eye.

I did not read all the posts. Is this Steve junior by any chance ? Is there a Steve Jr. Steve L was the rigger at Cole in the late 80's and moved to Havasu to start rigging boats. He did really top notch rigging. He was much older than me and I will be 60 this year.

Yes, this is the Steve we know, son, from what I'm gathering. I don't know if Sr. worked at Cole Boats but I do know he had his own repair shop in Elsinore in the mid to late 80's. He called it Pro Marine and worked on stern drives. He would occasionally take Merc outboards in and I would do those for him along with the Volvo Penta stuff. He bought his parts from the shop I worked at in Riverside. I'd like to see Sr. again just to shoot the shit. I heard he went though some pretty tough times.

Pretty sure Steve died a number of years ago and his wife 5ish years ago.

Clayton always seems to have a problem with a boat shop.

I was thinking the same thing. There are a lot of shady people in the boat industry though. One of the reasons I would drag my Cig from SD all the way up the Teague's to have work done.

" An armed society is a polite society"

If you treat everyone as if they had a 1911 on their hip, you won't get any complaints!
"Put Doc on the street howitzer, they'll less likely to start something......"

Good in theory, but some folks just ain't that bright.

Seemed like clayton lost an engine quite a while ago, I'm not sure if this is his first rebuild with that boat thinking it has 1075's but cant remember, but if it was, the price to do it right was probably a little shocking. There are shady business owners, but there are shady customers also trying to do things for as cheap as possible thinking they will get the same product as if they spent the money to do it correctly

Clayton and the 496 ho are two separate incidents among several others. They aren’t related.

Why wouldn’t he take his OL to one of the big shops in Havasu is the real question.

Clayton has had issues with several vendors in town.

That being said that doesn’t have a lot to do with what happened here. What happened here was no bueno.. hence the cops. Clayton has a civil suit against Steven.

There are others that have criminal complaints.

Kick the union to the curb and start your own company. With your drive, you'll kill it!

Give John Jory a call and see how he's doing.

John and his wife have Angels baseball seats next to ours. I see and talk to him often.

Ask him about the trip to Harveys disco-a-gogo when he was 18, with Irwin and I. :D

The last time I saw Jack Jory I clued him in as I figured enough time had passed. Jack's response was, "this is going to be an interesting Thanksgiving dinner discussion." ;)

I’m sure he’s doing good but the company is having a hard time. Vegas is about to close doors and Tim was a main player for them in Cali but left to start intex and took half the crew with him. It’s still in the back of my mind though.

You've come a long way and made everyone proud, don't screw it up just yet. I'm sure you'll do fine no matter what you choose, as far as work goes.

That’s a bummer to read.
I knew Steve back in the Elsinore days. He was renting the front half of the Solution Bosts building from Pete.

Try to make a long story short here.
I arranged to trade Steve (3) bbc intake manifolds for one sbc manifold and a set of roller rockers.
He said it would be a few days for him to gather my parts.

In the meantime, I went on vacation for a couple weeks.
Went back to work and Steve and Pro Marine were Gone!
Moved to Havasu.
I figured I got screwed.

Some 3? 4 ? Years later.
I’m in Havasu to do a boat for Groovey Burns and driving down the road one day...Hey! That’s Pro Marine!
I wonder?

I go in and Steve’s working on a boat and busy, a little gruff, doesn’t recognize me.
When I told him who I was he stopped, smiled and said I remember You!
I have something for you.
Jumped out of the boat and had me follow him upstairs.
He rummaged around and produced a box. Sbc roller rockers.
Another box.
A brand new, GM aluminum dual plane intake that came off a crate engine straight out of the box
Another box, push rods.

Steve was by my own anecdotal experience, a stand up guy.
Too bad to read his son is off the rails. Hopefully he can pull himself together one day.

Hey RD do you know where he moved to? My friend was coming down tomorrow to get his boat and now says he’s getting a run around and has no new address to send anyone?!.

I thought it was Jack but after looking at myself in the mirror, Jr. Could have aged along with the rest of us.

Last time I saw Jack was in 97 or 98 when I was visiting over at Mark Bemis water proofing. Jory was right next door so I thought that I should stop in and say hi.

I’m familiar with Bemis too. I’m sure we know a lot of the same people. I interact with them frequently.

That picture of Jack was last year. I haven’t seen him at any games this year but his season seats are still his. I’ll be there for this coming Saturday night game so hopefully I’ll run into him. He’s quite the character so I can imagine what it’s like when you two get together lol.

Jack was my boss and the only time I saw him was the rare occasion his was on the job site. I have a buddy that still works there, we both started in 1977.

Did you know Larry Kaa at Bemis?
