Here we go! lol.

I put an aftermarket turbo in the car upon hearing that others were having low boost issues. I had Jake drive the car to my house (about seven miles). Robby asked me if I put an aftermarket turbo in it I told him I did. He said it’s gonna void your warranty if ya don’t change it to a factory speed one and he would do it free of charge. I was in a hurry to get it done because of desert bash, so I went and picked up the replacement factory turbo and had it installed by Eric Barker. (Approximately ten miles). So I have an aftermarket turbo sitting on my shop shelf with 17 miles
On it).

I had the windshield on and it got hot and blew a head gasket.. speed replaced the engine shortly after it happened at a total cost of zero.

The car with the exception of the rear window I had installed at the desert storm street fair in the am is 100% stock.

At some point I’ll pull the windows out of it for summer.. but I’m hoping the rear window helps as much as people are saying it does in terms of having the front windshield in.

The car ran desert bash flawlessly as well as many other trips, until I made an owner derived decision to leave the windshield in it when I knew it was going to be hot in the afternoon. (it was freezing in the morning).

Everything posted in this thread is all hearsay etc.. like I said earlier my car is sitting right here.. if anyone wants to go tonight I’m game. Car runs bitchen.

On the boat front I have three right now.. albeit their a bit small lol

When I find the right one I’ll buy it.

RD
On the upside - I no longer have to keep asking "so, what's the outcome of the overheating issue w/ the windshield?"

The comment was 20 belts spread over ALL Speed car entries.
I thought I read there was roughly 20 Speed cars racing.
If so, that seems plausible.
Yes some lost none, some lost 3+.

Looks like they have 16 entries (17 but one didn’t start)

Again day 1 of a long race we will see how day 2 works

I can't imagine how many belts it would be if these cars had the Speed Key.

I suppose it will get sorted out eventually but in the meantime that's a big problem.

Highly unlikely.. I have over six hundred miles in my speed belt (changed from the factory Chinese one)

RD

I got 2800 miles on my first XP1000 belt where others were eating them like Pez candy.

Likely some of the belt issues at the race are driver induced, but certainly not to the tune of 20 belts. I would bet most of the Pro Rs will make the entire race on the same belt.

Fish posted Max blew a belt today, which seems the norm for him being he goes one speed = stupid fast! LOL!

Another epic day today. The livestream worked all day flawless again. We had a rad battle with max for probably 80 miles or so today over 2 stages. I let him pass me when he started a min behind me and then I just sat right behind him forever it was so much fun! He blew 2 belts today that I know of. We are in Bay Of LA now and headed to San Ignacio tomorrow!

We are 5th in class I think and 20th something overall. Still 4 days to go!!!

You would think they could put on an STM rage 6 or 8 clutch and solve their belt problems

There’s more to it. The TAPP design is a good clutch. From what I’m gathering there are 3 maybe 4 things within the clutch system to work on. Air flow ducting efficiency, Some looks to be alignment, some machining, maybe some manufacturing specs.

Speed seems to be looking at these other things as others outside of Speed are also seeing and figuring this out. I think with the belt issues and how much the belts are holding back the cars at Norra, this is going to push Speed to dive deep into resolving this soon.

If they had 17 entries and only brought 20 belts that isn’t good. I keep two extra belts in my car and it’s a play car..

I would have thought all the entries would have at least 2 extra belts in the cars at all times?

They used 20 belts on the first day. I don’t know how many they brought, but the concern was how many that they went through on day 1 alone. Now that day 2 is over and max went through 2 more. Likely the whole speed team is still burning through belts.

Today is the longest day I believe. The race goes from Bay Of LA to Loreto. Will be interesting how they do today if the belt crisis is accurate.

Not this year. They added a day so today we go from Bay Of LA to San Ignacio, then tomorrow we go from there to Loreto. It’s still a longer one today with 3 specials, last 2 days we only had 2. Here is a clip messing around with Max yesterday. Was gonna go for the slide job off the pavement but then it went to a damn 25mph zone for some reason lol.

I forgot about the added stage this year. Last year it was a long and hot ass day. San Ignacio is a great town with the mission in the center of town.

You’re kicking ass Fish. Run your own race so you’re there at the end to make a run for the final. The one thing about Rally racing is it’s all about the strategy. The Gordon’s are really good at Rally strategies and doing the small things to make time. Keep at it bud!

Uh oh looks like Fish took a tree out:

I just watched that before you posted. That’s what Mexico will do to you.

FISH - If you get it repaired and the finish line is closed still turn in your time slip. Find the NORRA HQ in San Ignacio and turn in the slip. Otherwise you’re going to be starting in the back tomorrow and sitting in the dust all day.

Both Fish and Robby are on the highway. That’s never a good sign.

Shocks aren't carried as spares. Shit happens, but an extra 100lbs is not in the game plan. Nor the space. Chase trucks are there for a reason.

Exactly. Should have two chase trucks. One that shadows the race car on the highway and one that leap frogs ahead to the next pit stop. Our chase truck(s) have just about every part to build a second car.

I know a guy who carries a 1” square tube with holes on the ends to be put in place of a shock if needed. You wouldn’t have any suspension travel, but you could get home and that tube doesn’t weigh much at all.
We’ve actually done that with a spare radius rod as a placeholder for a rear shock to limp to the road.

Actually pretty smart!!! Almost could store it with spare axle

Problem is speed is slowest and most unreliable of the bunch. Its approaching Teryx unreliability

Bummer of a day for sure. They fucked up the start order and all the UTVs didn’t get credited their 10min for the neutral zone yesterday so we ended up starting 39th or something instead of top 15. So we were stuck behind a ton of huge cars that we beat yesterday lol. Silt right off the bar was fucking baddddddd. Then we had some throttle issue where if you pushed more than 25% it basically went to limp mode with no throttle and you had to let off and pump to get it back but only had 25%.

Came into this corner with the pedal acting up and turned the wheel and hit the gas and nothing as you can hear in the video lol. Lucky after we went in the air I was able to turn hard left and I got some throttle and set it down but the damage was done. Super bummed this is the first time in 20 years racing I have ever “crashed” a car. We got it fixed and will jump back in tomorrow but we are out of contention for the overall at this point so we are just going for a cruise around Baja I guess.

Looks like Kristen Matlock is done. That rollover yesterday must’ve really fucked up the car. Her husband, Wayne, is still leading his class.
