Has anyone tried to walk in and buy a car from Speed in Havasu? Seems like at some point there would have to be a car order where someone has back out after the car arrived.
They had one on the floor at Coyne in El Centro

Is anyone still buying these things?
No one knows. RG used to post how many they had on order, but that was direct to customer and dealer stock. He has not spoken a number in a long time. I am thinking deposit holders are not growing at the rate RG wants. I am seeing more and more deposit holders selling spots for break even to current prices and delivered units for sale for today’s prices.

Have they addressed the braking issues on the production units yet? If not throwing 325 h.p. to them will mean addressing stopping issues as well.

Where's Waldo? ER "LOF" you couldn't check this thread without his usual "Know It All, B.S." and now?

Just like his President Trump prediction, of Going nowhere.

Nowhere, except the Whitehouse in 2024.

Ken from push turbo

We are 1 step closer to unlocking the true potential of the Speed 2 cylinder motor. Dyno tuning starts next week but here’s a sneak peak to what’s going to be available. The Push Turbo ECU upgrade will be $6800 supply only and $7300 installed. The parts will include a top of the line Emtron ecu, new pig tail wiring harness and new injectors. The ecu will be pre loaded with 2 tunes and the high/low boost button on dash will select the tune. The tunes will be 265hp on 91 pump gas and 325 with AV gas. These numbers could change slightly and will be confirmed once Dyno testing is complete. Also the factory detuning because of temps and the speed limiter will be removed and or modified to keep the car reliable. The labor to install will include the wiring harness, injectors and removal of the Cam decompression component. Please note this kit will not be installed without the removal of the cam component. I am also working on a new 4 year warranty that will cover this upgarde and still be less expensive then the 4 year white glove offered by Speed. If you are seriously interested please send me a private message as I’m compiling a list of all customers so we can start to order parts and schedule install when ready. The install will be done in Lake Havasu. A $500 deposit will get you on the official list. View attachment 1322098

My co worker that still has a speed car has the early push turbo in his car, not the chinese copy. 5 trips and the turbo is wasted. Likely bearing gone and the vanes on the intake side wore on the housing sending all that metal through the engine. The manufacturers issues dont seem to be contained to the engine itself. Car is back with the manufacturer for the 3rd warranty repair visit….

No. My boss’s car also had the Push turbo from the factory, car # in the mid 80’s. His car was in one of the photos you posted a few weeks ago take at the place in Havasu Push is doing the upgrades. Ken told him he didnt need the upgrade as he already had the “good” turbo. Boss was ready to spend the money to make it “right” but was talked out of it. He just had them do clutch work. He has sold the car and never drove it after they did the clutch tuning.

Where do you think the “Push Turbo” was made?

Where it was made is irrelevant, I used the word chinese as a distinction between two physically different parts that made it on production cars.

Anyone know what happened to max in the race this weekend ? I think he only made it like 18 miles in…he didn’t complete even 1 lap 🤷🏼‍♂️… at Laughlin 3 of the 4 cars didn’t even make it 5 miles… and these are hand built “race cars”

Drivetrain keeps giving up the ghost. It’s a shame but the race version race-car is bad ass. It’s the motor and/or clutch that continues to be a donkey.

Was told Coyne will no longer be a dealer for Speed.
Most likely a smart business decision.
When you combined almost zero dealer stock with the warranty repairs occurring, you get pissed off customers. You don’t survive as a dealership, with pissed off customers. I believe they had over 200 on order for dealer stock at one point.

If Ride drops out, speed goes back to a custom SXS manufacture (similar to west coast boat manufactures). Which it should have been from the get go, but folks had bigger visions.

Anyone know if Speed is racing KOH this year. RG proved he could drive with his performance in the Gomez Brothers truck last year. But can he do that is a Speed.

Being at KOH, and racing KOH in a Speed car are two different things. Last year that Speed support truck caused a CF in the pit areas when it arrived as folks were setting up pits for the desert race.

I wonder if a larger displacement N/A motor will be an option down the road, like the 2 litre Polaris offering. And no....not the fabled LS7 version 😂

Designing a complete mass-produced car from scratch is a huge undertaking, but also choosing to develop a propietary motor and transmission always seemed like the biggest risk of the whole deal.

RG is the most experienced racer at KOH’s. From IMSA to Dakar nobody competing has his resume.

The question won’t be if RG can do it. The question will be if the SPEED car can do it for him. If a trend is defined as three dots in any direction, up or down, it’s not looking good for the SPEED car lol

I have thought Speed could end up being like magic boats. Just a tuff economic environment to be operating in for a startup

With that said I’m impressed with everything that has been accomplished to date. The car looks amazing and by all accounts the chassis and suspension may be best in class.

That is a lot of boost for 91 octane to make 265hp.

What has Ken figured out that all the Speed guys have not figured out?

Definitely not a whole lot of doubt where his driving abilities are concerned. So why even bother with racing?

Every time he races, my buddy with a car on order says...

'I wonder what I paid for in this race?"

Robbie Gordon is making whole bunch of people...

Unhappy.

The Speed energy brand is paying for the race. RG isn’t taking the margin(s) earned on the sale of a car and using it for entry fees.

There is likely a dozen brands under the SPEED umbrella.

It’s similar to Rick Hendrick sponsoring his race driver with the RickHendrickRaceCars.com sponsorship.

There is no better environment to test a car than a race format. The cars will never see a more violent and harsh situation. I’d imagine each car is gone through with a fine tooth comb following each race whether is finishes or not.

… scratch that… I’m 100% confident they are completely gone through.

I completely agree with your take on racing proving quality. I’ve never been as hard on equipment or myself as I have while racing even while practicing for a race. Ive only raced boats and motorcycles but it’s easy to see off-road is no different.

Not every wants to be a racer...

Yes, I know, that's blasphemy to someone like you! 🤣

But for someone else that has tens of thousands of dollars just hanging out there...

Let's just say he don't give a flying fuck.

Even more so, cause his speed race record pretty much sucks.

I'm gonna say if Mercury Marine built a SxS, me and a whole lotta other people, would be all over that car.

👍🏼👍🏼

You’re one of those that still believe they have the magic fairy dust sprinkled over their motors? 😂
