By the time I was 15, I had been working on cars for awhile.

Built my first complete engine at 16, and was working at a engine machine shop at 17, boring blocks and doing valve jobs.

Most kids today are just playing video games. Seems like this kid is...

Normal. 👍🏼👍🏼

Slacker.

I had you beat by a few years….

I built my first engine (a 283) for a neighbor when I was 13. He gave me three 1966 Chevy trucks, two were four wheel drive and one was two wheel drive. I had to put one together for him to feed cows with and I got to keep the rest for myself.
My dad kept a close eye on me but I had memorized ‘How to Hot Rod a Small Block Chevy” along with the motor manual for those trucks.
I remember how nervous I was first firing that thing up.

I went to our neighbors funeral this year. His son still has that truck and I still have the one I built for me….

My dad was a Real grease monkey. He worked on anything and worked in a Big machine shop as well.

He helped me buy my first car at 14, and helped me tear it apart.

At that point he was...

Well, figure it out! And so it took time working on my own (with no help).

So yeah, I was a little behind. 😉

You know I have done a lot of shit in my life.. one of my first projects working for another company was to make a mold for the eye of the original Patriot missile. In my 20’s I took on a project that was so complicated that general atomic turned it down and I made it manually.. one block 100’s of holes none on the same plane or datum.. I could tell ya stories for days about crazy shit including the steering system for an ICBM..

But I’ve never built an engine.. always wanted too but never have. I know more than most.. hell to some extent maybe even more than some builders based on the never ending SAE journals I read when I was a kid..

One of these days I will.

In the meantime I do understand that nowadays the best tool I have in my box is rdp and my cellphone. Lol

Definitely works for me.

It's as close to AI as you can get, without downloading AI! 😁

With your knowledge...

You'd grasp all the concepts of building an engine instantly.

My main point was though...

I'm sure Gordon's son at 15, has Way more knowledge than most.

Tomorrow I’ll show ya what ya do to turbo your car when ya can’t afford a turbo.. but ya want to win and have zero parasitic drag. 😳.

It's good to see a young man at 15 wrenching and being fully involved. I hope he is doing more of that then looking at comments about his dad on the interwebs. As a father, I hope when I'm working my rear off to make something that is built ground up and doing my best to make it the best product, I don't have to bear witness my 15 year old reading negative comments after negative comments all day. The interweb is great for valuable information. it can also suck in situations like this. There is always growing pains in a new business. Things can always be handled differently. We all have different ways to go about our business. Robby has chosen his path. I have a feeling, from most that own his first edition, his second and the rest are going to be a force to be reckoned with.

Just another lesson for the young ones to learn...

Just ignore the negative and focus on the positive. You can't change what people will think.

Max Gordon doesn’t give a flying fuck about anything posted on the internet. He’s a 15 year old kid living the life that very very very few successful men live He was born into it. The internet has existed longer than he has, for him it has always been, period. He ain’t sitting around fretting over what some middle age and old fucksticks think about Speed. Max Gordon‘s biggest problem is probably trying to figure out which one of the 134 girls chasing him around he wants to start with…..

To be clear I haven’t seen one single person post wishing Speed would go BK. Pointing out problems and lies about deliveries especially in the off road industry should be seen as buyer beware or know what to expect. Not everyone is @RiverDave many are people trying to get their families to the desert or the dunes and they only have one shot.

RG has a lot to over come, some of his own doing and some just inherent of a new venture of this magnitude. I hope his revived interest in asphalt racing isn’t a bad sign to the Speed venture.

But did she prep her own car? I’m just kidding that’s super awesome I’m sure you’re a very proud dad! Congrats enjoy the weekend!
Lol yes very proud and 1000% me and her are the only ones that prep our cars. It’s very time consuming and tedious but it’s great father daughter time that I get to enjoy. She is very hands on and she posts all the time videos on her IG of her tearing her car down.

7 minutes, any hiccups that she had? She’s close to that number 1 spot. Congrats.
The biggest thing was she exploded a rear shock in qualifying and didn’t want to hurt the car more so she pulled off and didn’t finish. So what killed her was having to start 35th off the line. That made her have to deal with dust and slower cars for the first 2 laps. She did awesome coming from the rear of the group but came up a little short

Ken from push turbo

We are 1 step closer to unlocking the true potential of the Speed 2 cylinder motor. Dyno tuning starts next week but here’s a sneak peak to what’s going to be available. The Push Turbo ECU upgrade will be $6800 supply only and $7300 installed. The parts will include a top of the line Emtron ecu, new pig tail wiring harness and new injectors. The ecu will be pre loaded with 2 tunes and the high/low boost button on dash will select the tune. The tunes will be 265hp on 91 pump gas and 325 with AV gas. These numbers could change slightly and will be confirmed once Dyno testing is complete. Also the factory detuning because of temps and the speed limiter will be removed and or modified to keep the car reliable. The labor to install will include the wiring harness, injectors and removal of the Cam decompression component. Please note this kit will not be installed without the removal of the cam component. I am also working on a new 4 year warranty that will cover this upgarde and still be less expensive then the 4 year white glove offered by Speed. If you are seriously interested please send me a private message as I’m compiling a list of all customers so we can start to order parts and schedule install when ready. The install will be done in Lake Havasu. A $500 deposit will get you on the official list.

325 hp is nuts. Probably useless in the hard pack but would be fun in the sand. Install a two-step and that fucker will get after it.

The key is ditching the Cam Decompression I think. They may find that it’s an issue in the current configuration.

I think ditching that decompression deal is the key as well.. problem is ya remove it you void your warranty.. you leave it and it’s gonna fail. lol. So which path do ya choose?

You have to spend 7k to make it reliable? That would bug the shit out of me.
I think it comes with the territory. Buying one of the first units at a steep discount comes with you finding out the issues. It sounds like RD is OTD in the mid 30s and the same car today is 50k from Speed.

So if the end of the day number is 50k you can either fix it 3-7k at a time. Or wait a year or two for the kinks to get worked out (hopefully).

I guess that’s one way to look at it. But basically there is no discount. You have to pay to make it right. I personally would wait. To each their own.

Be interesting to see how his 4 year warranty would work. It covers “this upgrade”.

All I see out of that is a pissing contest between one party saying the engine blew due to a speed manufacturing defect and not from the ECU upgrade and Speed saying it’s void with the ECU upgrade.

325 hp on AV gas would be fun but I can’t image it not significantly reducing engine life. But, maybe if you like the car that much it’s just the cost of running it.

I suspect the compression release will be eliminated by Speed. I got the impression from Robby they are working on not needing it. That freezer test was part of there testing.

And how long for a new carb cert.
Also, have they been released for California buyers yet?

Has anyone tried to walk in and buy a car from Speed in Havasu? Seems like at some point there would have to be a car order where someone has back out after the car arrived.
