2 laps around the 425 trials course out by shea. Iā€˜ll official and we'll get few volunteers to run check points.

Make a party out of it. Get some drone video, sell swag and have food trucks. You guys bet what you want or in typical off-road racing form, just for the glory. šŸ˜

Like the gd.com EPO events. I'm So in!

That car isnā€™t a good litmus test of a CanAm for some reason. It wouldnā€™t even be a contest for the Speed car. šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™‚ļø

All kidding aside...

I'm not sure most cars out there would be? Pretty sure it would take the latest and greatest of any other brand to keep up.

Most of you guys ordering the speed car donā€™t live on a farm so whatā€™s the hitch for?

This thread Iā€™m hoping will end up being a section on here because there doesnā€™t seem to be any real world information on the cars yet. I will say in advance Iā€™m not interested in any bashing or stupid comments etc..

If you donā€™t have any real world information or ideas thereā€™s other threads for all the small talk.
Don't let this thread spiral out of control like everything else...I don't own nor have an off road rig but have been following this Speed shit. Let RD go through his shit and ya'll now what to do next...šŸ˜

I wonder if Polaris is going to file a lawsuit for stealing one of the designs?

Glamis?! Glamis is the all-inclusive resort of off road activities.

Baja or KOH is the true test.

I love Glamis but there is nothing challenging about it lol
Many say that but like mentioned most sxs drivers donā€™t have much experience. Sand can be hard to read especially when smooth. So these drivers get up to speed feel smooth then bam in a hole they go.

But experienced ones drive smarter and donā€™t have problems. But the sand can definitely stress parts out too mainly drive trains.

Have you tried bleeding them? Just in case they left some air in the lines?
If the brakes are like the Can Am X3 bleeding them is not going to help. It sounds like the Speed UTV has a very spongy feel like the Can Am.

If someone is use to Polaris brakes everything else sucks. I drove my friend's Pro R and applied the brakes like I would with my X3. If I was not wearing harnesses I might of launched out the front. They stopped the car so fast. LOL!!!

Pad compounds won't fix what your foot feels.
But there are lots of possible reasons for what is perceived as bad pedal feel. Lever arm length. Master cylinder bore diameter to piston diameter ratio. Caliper flex. Shitty brake hoses swelling under pressure. Lever arm that flexes when you mash it with a heavy foot. Poorly bled. It's a long list of things that affect the feel. You can have a rock hard pedal feel that doesn't stop for crap... and you can have a mushy pedal feel that throws you through the windshield. So feel and actually stopping can be two different things.

Somebody needs to throw a gauge on the caliper and see what the PSI is. Check each one. If the clamping force is there it will stop if the rotor and pad have enough friction. Find an owner near a company like Hawk and have a professional look at the brakes. There might not be one easy fix if the whole system is crap.

(edit) Apparently NOT Hawk. If the ownership of Hawk and SPEED UTV is intertwined that doesn't bode well for Hawk if the brakes suck.

Aloha

I guess Speed isn't the only one having a stop ride for fuel leaks.

Larue just posted that they put a Speed and Maverick R on the dyno. Numbers wonā€™t be revealed until the YouTube video.

I'd bet the maverick is gonna make more HP.. There's a ton of loss through the belt system.

Either way, while it's interesting to watch the Horsepower #'s, and the absolute incredible top speed #'s the Maverick R is putting out... I think the point people are missing is the survivability of the chassis, in a real world offroad environment.. or hell even in a crash. .

I think it's fucking crazy people are running 100+ mph in these things in the dirt now.. If you wad it, you aren't gonna live to tell the tale..

RD
It doesnā€™t look like they were able to lock the R in a 1:1 gear so who knows what the graph will look like.

I agree on the power aspect, it will be interesting to see where the SXS industry plateaus HP wise. Similar to the muscle car category, once they got into the 4XXhp territory it plateaued other than special trim levels.

Now that the 999cc barrier has been broken all bets are off.

My turbo s has seen 94. I would need a different clutch setup to pull more mph. I wouldnā€™t feel safe in a speed at 95 mph too. I donā€™t in my turbo s with a very stout cage

Most cars (autos) arenā€™t surviving a 90mph rollover. Unless youā€™re strapped in a NASCAR car with a HANS device, youā€™re probably fucked. What makes these dangerous is their lack of stability at high speeds. I had my Turbo R at 98 on Shea Road, the back end was drifting, I slowed back down right away because all I could think about was the yard sale that was going to be there if the car swapped ends.

EVO released a video yesterday of the R on a dyno. They are only seeing a 10% loss through the DCT. I want to say it had a wheel dyno of 217hp if I remember correctly.

It is so much fun mashing the throttle when you are on a dry lake bed or a road you know really well. My first X3 with a tune was over 90mph across a dry lake bed. Current X3 the speed limiter kicks in.

In the dunes coming across a big bowl at 60-70 mph is a blast.

If I know the road Iā€™m cruising at 70-75. Mohave wash is usually 50-80 mph
Std wash is 60-70 mph

This.. All the power sports speeds are getting crazy. I hit 70+ on a snowmobile and that was terrifying. My new one can do over 100+...It won't be with me on it. I don't have a death wish.

I just recall that with that rear window slider closed, leaves will swirl vertically in a vortex and end up at the front of the bed, won't blow out.
Not knowing the precise positioning of the Speed radiator and intake, that may be what you're trying to achieve ?

We've had windshields in all our various SXS, had to use a rear window in order to keep from becoming a cabin full of silt. Now with the half windshield and just a netting across the rear, problem solved, yet the air flow is directed primarily up and over our heads and I can see driving into the sun in the late afternoon, which many times prior I couldn't.
Given, we don't ride in caravans you do, so we're not getting dusted from in front of us.
I had my rear slider open on my standard cab truck cruising down the freeway and spit a lugie out the window and it came back in the back window and hit me in the side of the facešŸ¤£, scared the shit out of me then I had to pull over so I wouldn't crash because I was laughing so hardšŸ¤£šŸ¤£

Im in Sand Hollow and we did a ride to the grand canyon today and I hit 95 in my Pro R but I had my kid in the back seat so we didnt stay there too long lol. It was a graded road. The speeds all these new golf carts are going is crazy, there is no NEED to cruise over 70-75 but it is fun here and there!

I disagree . My half windshield puts the air right over my head and keeps the dirt blown out of the car . Also my sxs does not overheat even with a rear mounted radiator .

That part is good. I just canā€™t stand them for long periods of time, and they just get covered in dust.

Get a piece of lexan and cut it 2in shorter and install it so the opening is on the top. You can rotate it and put it on the bottom and you can also open the right and left sides until you achieve the air flow you are looking for then transfer it to the windshield
Lexan is the worst windshield for a sxs Iā€™ll buy glass over and over.
