Loosing time waiting or loosing money building a race car.. LOL.

That class 11 stuff looks cool and is coming a long way. I'm looking at getting into off road racing from the road course stuff I was doing as it is much closer and more accessible being here in St George. If I do I will do the "showroom stock UTV class. which the Speed car drops right into perfectly with almost no modifications.
He finally said F it, not waiting any longer, plus his daughter is loving the practice she is getting in class 11 with the other cars he has access to. Baja Jerky’s class 11 car is used for additional seat time.

Seat time is more important regardless, especially if it is in a car of same or similar spec. Sounds like it was a great decision.

The cost, process and time of building a race car in today's climate is just nauseating (but that is just me). I have a feeling there will be many used race cars for sale soon :)

Buddy runs his own Motorsports business (side gig) when not being a machinist for the submarines called to port in SD. So building cars is his hobby. He also is the crew chief for some weekend warrior race teams.

I would not want to be the CFO for Speed SXS’ today. They figured out a price in 2019 and with inflation those units have to be so far in the RED, it has to be stressful.

It is short term pain for long term gain. You have 15K in unit commits, and only ~2500 of them are at a locked in price. With $500M in the pipeline, I don't see how the CFO would be that worried as long as deliveries commence.

They have gone through details of the business model publicly. The first 1000 cars at the big discounts were factored in as part of their marketing spend - the early cars ARE their marketing. Selling those direct was the key because the margin they would give to a dealer they kept. Many of those are highly optioned cars, and the options are high markup as well, again purchased direct.

Those were the only cars priced in 2019.. The MSRP has gone up 3 times. It going to keep going up as they build those 15K cars.

Who is this? You're daughter is getting seat time in Josh's car?

Not my kid, my buddy’s daughter is. McMurrin. He helps Josh and is a co-driver for Josh every so often.
Helped pit Josh at Hammers this year. First tool pulled out of truck, was the cutting wheel :)

Ahhh, OK, got it. Yeah, they have a thread on RDC going about their build, and I've actually argued online with McMurrin about a rule I don't agree with, LOL.

I'm a class 11 guy

What rule is that

Allowing the Mobelwagen aluminum wheels to be legal vs. stock VW steel wheels. I'm just being stubborn because I like the purity of the class, and steel 4 lug wheels are not hard to get. Everyone is buying the aluminum now, and I think they are huge advantage over steel wheels.

Well, they are similar weight to a stock wheels, the advantage is their toughness.
Yep we run them on our 1177 car, no issues at the mint for us on these this year, we will see how they hold up in Barstow for the 300 in October. The Hammers race was brutal on metal, they bashed the crap out of the cars in that race.

An old VW got left at the ranch and I need tires and wheels so I can roll it about until I decide where it's going. What size or kind of wheel should I look for and where? Thanks for the help! I know absolutely nothing about VW's.

Looks like centerline 4 lug with option for 5th, probably a racing deal for changing tires quick. I think you can still get the racing lights at pep boys also.

Let us concentrate on the front wheels for the moment as I'm sure that I can find tires for the rear. What is the bolt pattern, or what should I search for on craigslist or other sites?

Wide 5.
I think it's a vw bus pattern, my Baja was the 4 bolt vw sedan pattern.
Maybe with the surplus of Speed car parts available, that would fit?

Probably not though.

Thanks! I'll search VW bus wheels and see where that takes me. 👍👍

truth. every car had some sort of damage. Larry and Eric had a blast driving the race. the smile on Eric’s face after the race completed was great to see.
It was a great environment and I hope Baja Jerky continues to support the race at Hammers.

So your saying he is going to build a brand new car, test it, dial it in and then race it.…. in less than a year!

Hmmmmm, interesting

lol

Well shit anyone can do that.. it’s the building 15,000 of them that is the tricky part. Lol

I’d be happy to have that conversation..

I don’t really care if someone likes speed or doesn’t. What I care about is people with zero factual information taking opinions because they don’t like someone and causing an ever growing rift in a community when they have zero interest in the product and zero skin in the game.. and to get directly to the point zero interest in even doing the basic reading to actually learn about it?

That I agree with.. inflation has to be fucking these guys right in the ass. That said they did have some price increases along the way that might have helped with that.. honestly for the car though I thought it was cheap for what you are getting to begin with?

Thats just a VW wide 5, 1967 or older VW, bug, bus, type 3, doesn't matter. They're all the same bolt pattern. You should be able to find some stocker with tires on Craigslist, offerup, or Samba.

What did LOF say is what I’m asking.

Sometimes the truth hurts.

Everyone was given a chance to course correct and no one did.

I’m back, most of the others are still gone. Take that info for what it is worth.

You changed a couple that’s why you got a lesser sentence.

No I changed 1 because it was borderline personal, in a response to a directly personal attack. Be that as it may, what I said still stands.

Had I changed a few more and had 0 punishment those incapable of reading comprehension would have said I got special treatment.

It is obvious where problems are and where they are not. I hope all those people that were banned come back, their pride may not let them, but that is their choice.

I don't have a personal problem with anyone. If they have a personal problem with me over some internet posts about SXS they don't want to own or don't care to learn anything about, they can take it up with me in a public or private setting on or off the internet.

If you don't understand how asinine that is, read that last sentence aloud.

That said, its over. Let it go.

Thanks for the link but I doubt I'll be doing anything with the bug as I have too many projects and little time to work on them. I'll most likely bring it back to Parker or sell it off if my friend fails to retrieve it before the ranch is sold.

Some updates -

Prices going up again in 5 days.

Dealer in Havasu will be ready for car deliveries, but all final prep work at the building in Havasu will be done after the first cars come out.

16k cars have been sold or allocated to dealers. About 4k of those are the cars “customer” cars ordered through their website or dealers. Speed’s goal is to deliver all 4000 of those cars by end of year.

Deliveries they say will happen in Anaheim, Havasu, Possibly Sand Show, and to various regional Speed dealers. They say they are targeting September to begin deliveries.

New electronics accessory bundle is available on the website to “unlock” the dash. It Includes belt temp, tire pressures, front and rear cameras and an accessory roof harness. All of the electronics in this bundle are viewable on the factory display.

If you buy any of these accessories later down the line you will have to have a Speed dealer unlock your dash to use them.
