Let’s say they don’t change the helmet law, how many officers will be able to tell the difference between a Pro R and a Turbo R?

Robby said don't bring your trailer to Sand Sports show, you can't get your car there.🤔

Perhaps they don’t do anything?
Likely. This is not that big of a deal. Literally they are just restating the existing law.

The are not going to change anything until someone connected gets injured in a Pro R. Cops already said the “Pro R is bigger and heavier”.

Jeep = Sold as a CA street registered vehicle.
RZR PRO R = Sold as CA offroad use only

I think that will ultimately be the cutoff line. Jeeps are safe.

Rails, SXS, etc will all fall under CA ROV laws regardless of engine displacement. Unless they just up the displacement of the current ROV law to 2,000cc, and roll like that?
Jeeps meet dot crash standards and have things like “air bags”. What sxs meets that. None.

Speed has made phone calls. "Production" vehicles should be at SSSS and possible deliveries a few weeks later.

It’s called grand fathering in. But I guess they could be stupid and apply to older vehicles. Good thing I don’t live in California nor care about California laws if so.

But I’ll add this. My 1978 Jeep cj7 met the standards of 1978, both crash and emissions

Never underestimate how stupid CA can be. The smog regulations continue to get tighter for older cars that passed smog back when they were new.

Helmet laws will never apply to street registered vehicles anyway.

At this point it is too obscure for anyone to really lobby or care about a 2000cc UTV not having a helmet requirement.

I definitely advise most SxS drivers to continue wearing helmets, at all times 🤪

Those that got Speed calls post up, very interesting. On another aspect about the speed car, does anyone have an estimate on top speed, wonder if it compares or surpasses or lags behind the other major manufacturers figures. Just wondering. :)

Still waiting on my call, but speed is limited at 88mph according to Speed, but they have had the car at 108 I believe with the speed governor turned off.

I have ridden in the Speed in Parker, and it's quick, I doubt it lags compared to others, but I don't own a SXS, so I don't have that much experience in them.

Do you think the governor being turned off is a major ordeal or something you think a lot of owners are going to do once warranty runs out? 88 sounds fast enough for me in the dirt, maybe not for some of the better more experienced off road drivers but for the average I would think that would be enough.

Robby made mention of it a couple videos ago, about using the Speed key and removing the governor, but it sounded like it would void the warranty and that there would be some sort of liability forms you would have to sign.

I wouldn't be surprised if some tuners figured out how to bypass the speed governor.

I don't plan on removing mine, I bought mine for my wife, and she'd never even get this thing to 60 probably, and in the desert, there's not too many places where you can even run that fast.

Saw one of these in person this last weekend, seeing it again tomorrow. Pretty interested to say the least.

I have been eyeing the Kawi for a while, love the made/built in America aspect and a lot of good reviews in rock crawling and tactical driving abilities. From what I read and after speaking with a few owners most said it is not really a dune monster but a really good all round quality rig.

If the prod car does what then preproduction cars did, it smokes them in stock form. We have not seen a drag race between a Pro R and a Speed car yet. But a Pro R is only out a car on a Can Am. A Speed car was out several cars on a Can Am in testing.

This is before pouring in E85 and running the 300HP tune.

Standard key is governed at 85. Speed key has no governor.

Using the Speed key voids the factory warranty. The additional warranties cover the use of the Speed key was my understanding.

The car will flag if the Speed key has been used at all.. so if you don’t want to use it, don’t ever start the car with it, at least while it is under the factory warranty.

Talked to someone who got a call today, they really only went over financing and such, not update on their delivery date. Only real update they gave was that they could not pick up a car at the SSSS due to taxes.

Robby did say he was hoping end of September, early October.

Did anyone get their delivery call? I thought it was supposed to start a few days ago. Lets wait and see what the local expert says now on delivery spin....hold on to your hats while the calls come flowing in...:)

I have the speed keys and extra warranties etc.. I don’t ever plan on using it.. but when I got it it was one dollar so why not get it. Lol

I can’t imagine a scenario where I would say.. “ya know I need to go faster than 85mph in the dirt..”

What about on the street? did you take a test drive in one yet? wondering how this thing is going to handle on the street and highway if legal in az.

Can’t figure out why they would say ‘due to taxes’ unless Speed is going to make the purchaser pay the sales tax when the car is registered. Or Speed wants to avoid paying income tax in CA. For now the real reason is the CA CARB cert is pending (stupid agency takes forever to do anything).

I don’t see 1 car being delivered until after the SSSS, then the week after hopefully numbers 1-75ish get cars. Since RG stated they have 75 built, hoping for 100 by SSSS. Let’s hope they increase those weekly mfg numbers, or folks are going to be waiting an extended period of time. still can’t believe no photos have leaked of the 75 completed cars sitting in a warehouse somewhere.

Can’t really think of a reason to run 90+ on the street either?
Highway speed in your neck of the woods is 75, if the car does 85 I was wondering if it was topping out, but if the vehicle goes 106 as earlier posted by someone then cruising at 80 should be an easy task and at a stable speed since this is a state of the art race sxs.

Well officially UTVs aren't technically supposed to be on AZ highways going 75 anyway. And if you think a softly sprung UTV with 20+ inches of suspension travel will handle like a standard car on the highway at highway speed.. well no.

Just wondering. I have seen sxs on the highway trying to keep up to traffic with AZ plates and the look on some of the drivers faces was priceless as cars flew by them, I thought the safety factor was HUGE. Personally I would NEVER drive on the highway except for areas like a short bridge like the topock bridge or short hops to get from one dirt road to another. We were heading to laughlin one day and I saw about 20-25 sxs going up the 95 at around 50 + and it made me wonder.

They do OK on the road. At 50 they are nice, you just want to leave yourself some space. They track straight and run nice and smooth. If you had to do an evasive maneuver, you may lose control if you drive it like you would a car. There is no ABS, and the brakes are small. If you drifted off the shoulder like on the 95, it may dig right into the dirt. It is not a car, you can't drive it as if it is one. Especially if you don't have a wind shield, you'll get pelted with road debris on the highway at a normal following distance.

I'm not touting Speed here, I'm touting race car design and geometry, but the Speed UTV has a far lower roll center and lower center of gravity than a Polaris or Can Am because of the suspension design. Both of these things make it less likely to flip over.

Highway driving is scary. Even more so next to a 80k lb truck. 85 in the dirt is hauling ass in a 2k lb vehicle. Shit 70-75 in my turbo s is terrifying as one ditch or rock or whatever could be bad.
