What loophole have these mom and pop food preparers found? Starting to see these pop up all over socal on sidewalks especially in the evening. Some of them are getting quite big with ezups, tables, propane cooking and lights. No business license I assume, no permits, no rules, etc...?

Yep, popping up all over...pomona, diamond bar, san dimas. Some are really good, some meh...
A friend of my SIL sets up in fontana somewhere. She reportedly pulls a couple grand a weekend. Her food is very good and she's very well liked of course.

It was decriminalized in 2019 I believe so it's not illegal. I've stopped many times and gotten food from them.

People get up in arms about it and I get their point of view because restaurants have to go through hell to keep their doors open and these guys can just pop up anywhere. The other side of the coin is these guys are out there busting their ass trying to put food on the table for their kids and pay their bills. They are doing what it takes and I'm not mad at them for that. You ever see any Mexican homeless people? very rarely because they do what it takes to survive.

No one is being forced to eat there and no one is stopping you from supporting your local restaurants. To each their own.

I remember about 13-14 years ago, getting ticket because my truck that was parked in my driveway had the bumpers sticking out into the sidewalk about 1'

My first child had just been born and we had visitors parked in the driveway, so I pulled in behind them for an hour or two until they left. Wrote a letter to the city explaining the situation... and they said too bad, pay the ticket.

now we have these taco and fruit stands all over the sidewalks lol... how quickly thing change.

Here's what I found:

In 2016, the city of Los Angeles decriminalized street vending. In November 2018, the city voted unanimously to legalize it. In September 2018, California Governor Jerry Brown signed the Safe Sidewalk Vending Act, or SB 946, which decriminalized street vending in throughout the state.

My buddy is a captain at the agency I am retired from. I recently asked him about this, and he said they don't enforce any of the laws that we did when I was working. I would never eat at any of them personally. No food handling licenses or any other checks to make sure that what they are selling is safe. I won't even get into what this does to brick and mortar businesses trying to compete.

Im okay with it. The size of some of them caused me to take a double look and think to myself how can this be legal. But apparently it is.

On any Saturday night in Lake Elsinore those places are packed. Folks all dressed up in their ranchero wear....big night out.

I was just gonna say....drive up Central off the 15 going towards Perris...and there is one of these spots set up that literally has tables, chairs, menus, literally looks like an outdoor restaurant....

Hahahaa!! You folks haven't been through L.A. recently...... Every weekend night, everywhere you look......people trying to make a buck.

They may not be illegal but I HIGHLY doubt any of the Mom and Pop places pay taxes, have a food service cert., an inspection rating from the County or a business license to sell in whatever city they are setting up in.

If you or I owned a business in the same area, where we sold food, we would have to pay all of those fees and abide by all of those requirements or risk being closed. These places typically do not and will not follow the same rules, and simply respond with "Habla Espanol?"

It sucks that brick and mortar businesses are required to follow all of those requirements, but these folks are not.

I would honestly go to any restaurant that could put out the Al Pastor tacos and burritos that these outfits can, but all the Mexican restaurants around me suck. I don't know why these restaurants don't start putting out food like these sidewalk vendors? They don't even compare.

Im not sure we are comparing apple to apple anymore? The food folks are actually working and going back to a house at night with their families.
There are rules set in place with city codes to follow for a reason. Not enforcing them leads to bigger problems. Saying they are just trying to make a buck is a weak excuse to not obey the laws. This can of worms has exploded open< This country is Fucked.

passive ANARCHY , no enforcement either code, law, health etc They get by until challenged I suspect.

EDIT: Legitimate business gets fined, taxed, fee'd Case in point we went 20 plus years responsibly disposing of our small amount of drain oil and filters etc Last year the County decided we needed to have permit and certificate to do so at about $300 bucks a years

Anarchy is a form of society without rulers.

If those restaurants didn’t have to pay taxes and permits etc then maybe they could afford better quality meat cuts 🤷‍♂️🤣

A couple of these vendors started setting up shop in Calabasas and they were removed very quickly by the police. I watched them get tickets a few times for blocking the sidewalks and then I never saw them again. Police will ticket them depending on Location Location Location lol.

People complain if they're begging for money and people complain if they're working trying to make ends meet lol.

I get it though, it does suck for the brick and mortar places. However, these people are already here. Blame the politicians, don't blame these people for wanting to survive.

State has basically forced cities to allow it with certain parameters including county health license, city business license and sidewalk vendor permit. Most don’t have any of the above and if chased off just move around to a different city etc.

And I remember 8 years ago or so, you were financially penalized if you didn’t have medical insurance…..and now California gives it to illegals for free……I mean paid for by the lawful, tax paying citizens
