12.6/12.7 cruising with 12.2-12.3 at wot would be super safe.

I made 3 more bin files, adding 12,15,and 20 percent respectively, to the last 2 columns rpm over 2800.
Every thing below that was in the 11-12 range. As it sits now, it won't spin faster than 3250 rpm.
Waiting for this dumb rain to quit so i can go back to the lake and see whats goin on.

I'm on my 2nd sensor in 7 years. First one lasted about 2 years but got some water spit on it during shut down and the motor just slightly hiccup'ed, hence the failure. Current sensor has been running for 5 years of continuous full time use.

I do not keep a spare. My tunes are mostly dialed in and safe for now with my current prop inventory.

First, I noticed you have the MEFI 411 XDF file selected? I use MEFI 110 XDF. Not sure if that is causing you issues on your loads since I thought you were using a MEFI 1 ECM.

MEFI 1.jpg
This should give you a starting point from which to compare. Two major points to be aware of. This is for a 377 cid motor (slightly smaller than yours) but with larger injectors (42 lb/hr).

MEFI 1 OpRegion.jpg

The red area is where the motor will operate 99% of the time. It is nearly impossible to stray outside that ellipse while on the water. You may briefly see areas above and to the left when doing snap idle decel (i.e. WOT then slam to idle) very briefly but the motor quickly falls back into the elliptical region.

AFRs are:

Idle cold 12.5
Idle warm 13.6-14.1
Off idle transition 13.2 ish
Heavy load coming on plane 12.2-12.8 (slow throttle roll on)
Normal cruise 2800-3600 rpm 12.8-13.2
>= 4000 rpm 12.8 to 12.4 WOT

All these numbers are based on steady state conditions or slow transition. Heavy acceleration will induce AE and AFRs will be a little richer as expected.

That is some very valuable info trash. Thank you.

We named it the 411 xdf file, because that's the displacement of the engine.

Oh, so you renamed the definition file but it is still the MEFI 1 xdf. Got it. I was thinking MEFI 4 and the address spots don't marry up with a MEFI 1 so I was confused.

With the table you displayed what were/are your AFRs at the major break points?

So after flogging the crap outta this new motor, its become apparent that a few changes were in order.

More breather is necessary, and a baffle below the pcv.

The baffle is welded below the pcv, on the valley side of the intake.

Are those Vortec heads milled enough for the lift? Coil bind?

Very nice[emoji108]
Where we at with top speed?

Still hovering around 75. I haven't taken the time to make any more changes. I've got a bit of a journey starting tomorrow, and i really wanted to get some wind in my face before I leave.

Dunno if you folks saw my thread in the lounge about busting my toy....

Figured it'd be a winter project, and dropped the old motor back in. Had a yuuuge disdain for the lack of ponies.

Went a little bananas, and fixed my rocker stud situation.
Pulled the stock pressed in studs, tapped the holes, milled some space for guide plates. Now the rocker studs match my main cap and head bolts. 😎 Had 2 bad pairs of lifters, so replaced them with a fresh set of morels, .120" wall pushrod, and a set of full roller 1.6 rockers.

Brought it home tonight. Drive is pulled, hatch is off, yanking the anemic 400hp out right now.

Hahahaha.. thanks.

I try to post as I'm working. The amount of posts is directly proportionate to the amount of smoke breaks I take. :skull

Just about halfway swapping accessories and wiring harness.

Been following your rebuild and just noticed how far your grub screws are out of your locks , are they long screws or not many threads in the locks i like to see them in further than that ,hate to see all this work undone by a grub screw backing out cheers skidsteer

I love having a glove box, Phone, wallet and keys go in as soon as I get to the boat....I put a 12 volt receptacle next to it and the phone is on it all day. :thumbsup

I can almost get a 12 pack of beer in this one. 😉
