It's upside down in this pic. The slots are for some led lighting.

Found some aluminum tubing at the scrapyard in town today. Seems some fender holders are in order.

I dig checking on this thread every now and then to see what kind of shenanigans are going on in Hula town.
It never disappoints.

I'd offer the thumbs up chinga, but Dave hasn't properly equipped us yet.
;)

That's a pretty nice reward for all your efforts.

Somehow I knew way back when this build was going to be something special.

So, an update on the tuning aspect of this project.
I was hitting a huge wall at 3200 rpm. the only way i'd get past it, was to trim it to the moon, and nail the throttle. It'd take off like a ROCKET...
to just try and sneak above that rpm, the motor would just bog.

stock merc 502 cal.PNG

this is a stock 502 cal, which is what i started with.
BPWvsMAP.PNG

this is where I'm at now. check out the gas we had to dump in it at 3200....
basically a 5 gallon bucket and a funnel right into the plenum...
AFR at that point is 11.5..

Its still rich up top, but so much more driveable. I never thought in a million years it would be such a long process to get this done. (its still not done, but a shitton closer.)

So I've been busy galavanting allover the damn place. Since I've posted anything in this thread, I traveled to Iceland, Orlando, and an epic roadtrip out west. Mustered 11 states and 4600 miles. Given all that windshield time, I took the opportunity to remember my vision for what I wanted the hula to be. I have a few more details to fool with on the motor to make it into what I want.
First item is hard piping the water line from the sea pump to the thermostat housing. I have had a couple of different versions of hose routing on this project, and have never had the correct parts. Because of the myriad of versions of the merc 5.7, I couldn't figure out which part numbers were correct, and because of the higher mounting height of the motor in the boat the power steering cooler, and cool fuel module aren't in their "stock" locations. So, further into the rabbit hole we go. Can't figure out what it's supposed to be, make my own parts. ;)

I have a small oil leak on the pressure sender that needs a moment on my attention,

Also need to pull the oil pan and make a hole in the windage tray for the dip stick.
When I did the dipstick and tube I shoved it in till it stopped, marked it for length and cut it off. When the pan is full, just the tip shows (yes, just the tip, and only for a minute....just to see how it feels) barely a drop of oil, so if it's low on oil, I have no idea how much to add.

That's a really dumb move on my part, and a total rookie move, so I'm correcting it.

Anyway, here's the obligatory pic of the mandrel bends I picked up. Very fortunate to have a local business that manufactures these.
