In this thread I've been working on a concrete saw that I've frame swapped and repowering with a diesel engine. It runs and works except it overheats in the summer and has a blade shaft gearbox that needs replacing. Before I install the new gearbox I wanna resolve the overheat issue and really don't feel like tearing the thing apart to install a bigger radiator.
So I decided to build another one and will use this one to fit the larger radiator into. If it works, I'll install the same cooling system into the other saw. This one is a single speed blade shaft. They're simple and cheap to repair but limited on blade size.
In the pictures you see I swapped frame sections. One lower section is 23" wide and the other is 25" wide but both uppers are 23" wide. One is for air cooled engine, the other is for a liquid cooled engine. I don't like the 1" reveal each side on the larger frame. I cut the smaller radiator mounting setup out and shoehorned a radiator from a later model saw into it. I'm gonna have to modify the fuel tank. This larger radiator has about 125% more cooling surface than the smaller radiator. 5 row vs. 3 and taller.

Do these little 3cylinders have a harmonic/vibration issue? Trying to figure out if the one little pony motor in the insulation truck is just a bastard, or if they have issues. This one has alway ha vibration, so I'm thinking the pulley/drive assembly isn't balanced correctly

They vibrate. The one I've been running does have an egged shaped cylinder and idles smooth and smooths out over 2200 rpm. Anything between it shakes.

Hmmm, the plot thickens. The pulley sizes and the general info on the machine is pretty much listed as 1800rpm. Always been afraid to turn it up a little. I'll have to see where it's actually running, and go from there.

Buggs & Strap On motor on the Trailer Tug grenaded.
No longer built and nothing on the market like the trailer tug nor as near easy to use. Replace the motor was the only solution.

I had checked on basic servicing the B&S Intek years ago and learned it was rated the worst motor B&S ever made. Only production 18 months and contributed to the demise and failure of Briggs and Stratton. They still have a parts agency but that is winding down as it sells out too. No direct replacement motor available from B&S. It was a functioning POS from the day I bought it.

All the farmers say the same thing.

On the good side many farmers that had them for power take-offs on various machinery have posted videos on them replacing the Briggs and Stratton Intek with the Harbor freight vertical shaft 5.5. $229.
Runs much better on top of all that. Way better.

The farmers had all kinda failures with the Briggs and Stratton Intek. Connecting rod through the side of the crankcase, piston grenading, etc. My case was the camshaft puked like so many others experienced. A really junk motor. Vibrated itself to death.

Yeah, a change-out with a different brand is do-able. Damn near drop in.

Motor shaft / pulley was so seized had to sawzall the shaft to remove it.
7/8" shaft dia, 3/8" keyway same bolt mounting pattern footprint as if this motor was designed with the idea of it'll be replacing a lot of Buggs and Strap Ons. Judging by all the You Tubes it was. Amazing the amount of applications out there on farms and businesses. One little motor could be the key to the whole days operation, and Briggs and Stratton sold them a POS to do the job.

The Tug itself is so heavy with weights and a non-user-friendly-service design it took a lot of time to simply access the shaft to cut it. Not hard. just heavy, awkward and hard to get at and time consuming.
Neighbor showed up and was a big help musclefucking this beast and figuring out the best way to attack it. He needs it to move his stuff around too and occasionally borrows it.

I'll buy a spare engine to keep on hand.

Whipped up a BB gun shooting range tonight. We broke them out on Friday night and we’re having a blast. This should make it easier. Had jailbait 1 bend up the hooks today and grabbed all the galvanized pipe on the way home.

Got the cabinet finished looking like a built in best I could. Everything filled /leveled and painted.
Thought I’d throw in some color for effect.
Just happy it’s finally done. Well until the little woman decides it needs a change.
Now time for some hockey.

Have been going down the rabbit hole for about a month now, decided I was going to keep the 78 CJ and start my restoring project that has waiting due to time constraints for over 18 years, what the heck was I thinking... So far every day I find something else I want to replace so I have to order parts, my wife told me I can Never Ever complain about her amazon packages...

Miata 5 spd gear box, needing one brass synchro ring for 4th gear, and 4 synchro springs to replace. The synchro springs missing the little tab that broken off. Common issue with them, too brittle and break off with higher milage use. This fucker needs a 18" long bearing puller [ Mazda special tool or make my own ] to pull that bearing off from the long output shaft, before I can get the mainshaft and countershaft apart to replace the synchro ring.

On stuff like this, I use all-thread that fits the bearing splitter, and a piece of bar stock with a couple holes drilled. Use a couple nuts to pull against it, and the shaft. It doesn't usually take much to start them.

My last 5 days off have been all concrete prep - Grading, drains, and forms. It will be about 27 yards. I’m sick of the dirt/mud getting tracked into the shop so I’m getting this project done with. Hopefully, the first week of June it’ll be done.

Needed to modify the fuel tank to fit the wider radiator. First time doing this and went well. Pressure tested it with 3 psi of air and had 3 leaks. Some quick zaps and it's good. Now I need to make a lower radiator mount. After that it'll be light fab work. Battery mount and a mount for the hydraulic raise/lower pump.

Over the course of the past couple months I have been working on a new rear bumper for my bronco. I modeled it loosely off the Hanson bumpers for these trucks. I did all this by hand so it took me a while. It’s rock solid and way better than the old fender mounted tire carrier.

Just finished this. 4x4 steel post, 2x3 steel upper frame and corrugated metal for roof. Roofing came in worng and what i wanted was waaaay to much money so i ended up murtic aciding it to strip off the galvanizing off. Now it will just need to rust to match everything else.

I don't know if it's still available, but there was a product called "Break Through". It was a flat clear coat that adhered well to oxidized metal. Once you reached desired "patina", you'd seal it with that. It would keep the runoff from staining, and clothes from turning orange when leaning on them. The guy that showed me that product did stuff for Disneyland, like product carts and displays. I used it on a couple rat rods.

Temporary put a 300 pm on it until I get the 200 black max rebuilt. Bought some seats on Amazon while I practice sewing so I can play with it. Put it together for shaver lake so I do t have to borrow my brother in laws boat.

It sat out without a cover for a long while. Gel spidered on the deck wear the bulkhead is. Spidered at the Bimini top holes and few other places. Wasn't worried about it due to kid and friends climbing on it so I 1000 grit and polished. Turned out pretty good. New rub rail from Rex Marine too.
