I have been wanting to do this since I bought the car. I love the chassis and the suspension, but there are issues that I will tackle as they start to rear their ugly head. Having to step over this bar sucks. I thought I read somewhere that RG had the same design on the first speed car until multiple people said no way. Process was simple. Measure, cut, grind, fit, grind some more and reattach. I'm not a chassis guy so I am still deciding if I need to add something else to the new front attachment point. Maybe an angular brace or a plate to properly transfer the load as best as possible. I'll figure that out and then do the other side. All I know is it is so much easier getting in and out.

Gotta hand it to you guys that do your own bodywork, I'm such a perfectionist it takes me forever. I usually sub it out now. Looks great.
I hope mine does come out decent. Going with solid color to hide it better.

Trans tunnel is in. Tilton pedals are mounted & drive shaft is ready to order tomorrow. Lots of grinding to do next week. My new miller infinity 2.0 welding helmet is 1000% better than the old 2007 helmet I had.
I’m exhausted. Even made spaghetti tonight.

Project Frankenstein!

So my buddy calls me and asked if I could fix a couple things on his ex drag/street car and like a dummy I said sure.

Weld tabs on cage for belts
Fix rear brakes
Change fuel pump

Well once under car I found rear suspension geometry F***'d pinion angle was 18 degrees negative, trac bar was all wonky/not parallel to diff and the butchery was off the charts.

I tried to get him to back half it and he was not going to so I did what I could

Not what I'd call picture perfect by any measure but the chassis is now "neutral" it will stop and should go and stop straight.

NOR A DRIVEWAY JOB LOL!

Wow, that workmanship was bad, you definitely cleaned it up a lot 👍👍

Have you got a guy from Standard working on it at you hangar or is it headed to Winnipeg?
It was pulled to do some maintenance on the plenum.

Easier to pull it than work around it.

Only takes an hour to pull.

^^
makes my alternator rebuild job look pretty simple😉
We run about an hour of inspections/maintenance per hour of flight time.

Some parts are a tad bit older than others as they can be repeatedly overhauled. :)

Working on the BBQ trailer layout making the template to get some diamond plate and brackets made for the pellet smoker, and a 36” griddle. Small prep area as well. Gapped area is where a storage box and propane cylinder will go. MaK lending her expertise as usual 👀🤣

Cant remember the recent thread OP, but staying true to the “start another project before you finish 20 others in progress” addiction, I bought another Kubota last week. Ive put 50 hours on the 305dt, but the loader is really oversized for the chassis. Have been watching for a nice 345dt, which has 4 cyls, 5more HP, better power steering, and 4 more gpm of HYD flow and found this beauty. Too cheap to pass up. Needs a tune up and some PM and a detail. The idea was to swap the loader over from my current tractor, until I found another identical tractor last night on offer up. Now i have 3 tractors. Im into the two new 345dt for 50% of what i paid for the 305, so once i merge the 345’s into one nice tractor, the 305 will be sold.

The second 345 that will donate the FEL and any other mechaical parts i may need to make one nice clean tractor:

Wind deflector and AIM SOLO2 DL on the wheel is another addition too. Getting some Hoosier radials too, hoping to get the car close to 2:10 laptime at Area27
Any interest in an Aim smarty cam go hd 2.2 system? $900 shipped. It should plug into your solo and show track diagnostics on your cam. It has the 84 degree bullet cam.

I upgraded to the 3 dual cam set up

Thanks for the offer Cdog. My son stores a lot of AIM stuff in my basement. He's a AIM dealer, installer, instructor working with Area 27 members. My vintage FF only needed the AFR feature with SOLO2 DL for tuning the carbs. I can add expansion if I needed for other functions but I'm good with the analogue gages on the dash only. I have a GoPro HD cam. Smarty cam is too rich for me, haha

We use more cam/G circle/throttle/brake to diagnose speed or lack there of on the track more than anything

Are those entirely constructed of an alloy, or are they composite? Will the old set be sent in for rebuild and re-certification?
Titanium root fitting bonded to an aluminum honeycomb blade with leading edge abrasion strip made of stainless steel.

They are good for 3530 hours and also limited by cycles and torque events.

They require constant inspections for de-bonding of the leading edge from corrosion. Tap inspections work well.

Other than a few incidents of sudden failure typically due to repeated stress events like lifting, in which case you die, one can tell if a problem is developing as they will show signs in the inspections and/or they will show signs in both track and balance.

Once they hit their life limit or fail an inspection, they are scrap. Hang them on the wall as art.

I think I would either miter a couple corners and frame the office doorways, or maybe make a bookshelf. They could definitely become some neat decor.

Cycles and torque events. I assume there is a data logger/ accelerometer that records these events?
My thought also Monkey on the reuse. Trying to come up with something for a shelf unit.

Most of the 500’s working are about as analog as one can get other than avionics upgrades.

You count them manually and record them at the end of the day in the maintenance log book.

In Vegas in addition to being an accomplished musician, wife is a hell of a piano and harpsicord tuner,,, and trouble shooter.
Has her Y zero and Y double zero drivers and other fine tuning tool kit to dial in Grannys instruments.

I think musical talent is in the blood.

As for me,, some of the the China-built Honda 7000 & white label clones inverter generators circuit boards eventually go bad, no replacement available.
So, that repair project is over, drain the fluids, off to the dump.
Hate to see it go, gave it my best shot. Really liked that generator.
