I’ve never had a dog named Lucky, but we did have a Jack Russell/Pomeranian mix named Chuckie (for good reason) who accessed our roof from a balcony, then jumped to the ground 25’ below. He missed the concrete and landed on a sloped lawn, and survived, albeit with both hind femurs sawed off by the vet because they kept popping out of joint. Surprisingly to me, though not to the vet, the scar tissue formed new hip joints. I guess we could have called him Lucky.

Too long ago for pictures on my iPad though.

Josie, or JoJo, is our 12 y.o. GoldenDoodle, and is still as playful as ever. She’s a, great watch-dog, frisbee-dog, and family member. We’ve had a number of good dogs over the years; none better than her.

Seams to be working. Without giving her a command she walked next to me on my left. Would not go ahead of me and sat at the front door until i opened it and went inside, Then she entered.

A little update. She is doing really well. She walks very easy. Really do not need the leash, but it is required. She has a raised bed that we use as her "place". That is the command we give for her to get on the raised bed and stay there. So far she has made it an hour staying on it. To show someone how good she is doing and had her "place" on a drainage overflow that was raised up about 3 ft. She jumped up and stayed on it until I freed her. She understands all the words needed, but she will still test us. Most of the training we still do, she does before we tell her to. So far really happy with the training.

View attachment 1461380 This is my other shepherd and she's the one that's go go go. I call her my coyote, she's wirey like that. 🤪
I can understand that go go go...she doesnt have that bulk but has that athletic ability. At least that what she looks like to me!

Good looking pups

Holly is doing well. She at this point anticipates command and does what you want before you can get the words out. We are at my dads this weekend with my brothers and sisters and she is still behaving even with all the distractions. My family loves dogs so she is getting a ton of attention.

One command called "place" is working really well. When putting her on "place" she has to stay on her bed. She can do an hour on "place" with zero attemps to get off. Works great when you have 10 people sitting down to eat or play a game.

We all can get lucky with a pup or kid that seems is just perfect and always does the right thing. In reality you only get back what you put in. Glad to here she is responding well. Consistency is the key. Good job

Today we did off leash training. She did have a leash on her dragging on the ground, but we walked about 2 miles without ever touching the leash. We also taught her to go on the grass and sit down when ever a car came by. She did pretty good with that, but will need more training. Then trainer said that it is time to start the visual commands. These will be hand gestures as commands and after she is trained we should not have to use voice commands unless she can't see us. Trainer said we were doing well with her. He asked us to rate how well she was doing with each command. Score from 1-10 with 10 being she listens when giving a command one time. If you have to tell her again then that is not a 10.

We said she was mostly 8-9 on most of the commands. He said we have to get that to a 10 on every command. He reiterated that his service is for the life of the dog and he will continue until she does everything.

So I made Holly some food. I haven't given any to her yet. A friend suggested I add Canine Complete to make sure she gets the right nutrients.

This is the food I made her yesterday.

IMG_2350.png

This was the recipe.

  • 2 ½ pounds ground beef
  • 1 ½ cups uncooked brown rice
  • 1 ½ cups chopped butternut squash
  • 1 ½ cups diced carrots
  • ½ cup frozen peas (or green beans)
  • 1 to 3 cups chopped spinach
  • 4 cups of water
I tasted it and was pretty good. Just needed seasoning, but not going to do that.

So my question is how do you know if she is getting the right nutrients and is it too much or too little? Do I even need the canine complete? What if she gets to much of the nutrients? It does say on the website that you may need a supplement.

Lmao. Well it is all people food.
I used to cook up a lot of turkey and ground beef to supplement the pups dry dog food. I am talking 5lb ground packages and would add a bit to each meal. I have stopped that and all the pups are wolfing down the Pro Plan food I am now buying. Into my second 40lb bag and they aren't sick of it yet.

Whatever they are fed they will eventually need a change.....what if we ate pizza every day? After a few days we would be sick of it.....

How do you guys get your pups to eat green beans? Phx wont touch them but it is suggested to put some in their food to help lose weight. Supposed to be a good filler with them.

I suspect Xena would eat them..she will gobble up anything but doesnt need to lose weight. She is all muscle.

Tonight my pups lost their “cousin.” My best buddy’s dog. I remember picking him up 10 years ago in Ontario in the mall parking lot and having him on my lap as we drove home together. Their first “kid” and a smelly little bastard. Fucker loved to jump up snap at you like a crocodile as a puppy. I still have yard work shirts with small tears in them from him. I spent hours playing fetch with him in the back yard. It was the joy of his life, and I’ll miss our time together. RIP Busty.

This is their first playdate

I put them in the food processer and grind them up. With that said I am mixing it with the recipe I posted. Switched from the peas, because we had the green beans already. She ate it last night without a problem.

Today will be a week she has been on the food I made. It is 50/50 with the honest kitchen dehydrated food and the canine complete. Just still not sure if we need the canine complete. I may stop it for a week to see if there is any change in her. I will weigh her today

Maybe thats why @DaytonaBabe loves that breed......shiny floors and all. 😁

So funny - I watched that video this morning on Instagram. That girl has an incredible talent with communication and training with her dogs. I've followed her for years now. I could train mine to do all those things, but this damn job thing keeps getting in the way 🙄😆

I want a dog so bad (our passed in Nov '24). We are waiting until after our next out of town trip - hopefully Spring time we'll have a new Pup.

We'll most likely hit up the pound in lieu of a breeder - way too many dogs need homes. also, we'll probably go for a 6 month old - last one was Mastiff and 18 months to 2 years by the time we got her. There was a lot of damage done to the point we really had to watch and control who she was around. Which made boarding interesting at times. Great dog, miss her a lot. Tons of training and discipline, on leash, at her core she was a sweetheart.

Lots 'O layin' around!!!

He still looks great, Mouz. 👍 Probably stove up like all of us old guys in cold weather.
