She is 109lbs now. I think 11 months.

We fostered a dog about that size. About 105 lbs at 11 months. It was half golden Retriever half Great Pyrenese. It was such a cool dog.

Mine starts training tomorrow. We hired a company that trains service animals. Expensive, but our new dog is so calm and sweet it will be worth it. I trained our last 5 dogs and they were well behaved, but when we would take them somewhere they would act up. Not sure why at home they were great. Had to be something I did wrong in their training. We are in a very social community and want to be able to take her with us and do not want to deal with a dog misbehaving.

I did take Phx to training as I did not fully understand her breed very well. Initially she was disruptive in class. I just walked out one day and the trainer called me afterwards and told me not to do that. I said it wasn't fair to the other pups. Told me to bring her back next class and not leave.

After that she got it and I swear would kind of show off in class. Her concentration would be off the charts.

Best thing I ever did for her. I can now walk her anywhere and she stays to my side or slightly behind and I can mover her around like a race car in busy areas. She follows the gentle lead of the leash. Its amazing. They did use the springer collars and when I put that on her in social settings she goes right back into training mode. It has to be used properly though. Its just a gentle pop up and thats it.

When people don't know how to use those springer collars (yanking, etc) it really can harm the dog. Different trainers have different opinions but after instructions on use I am a firm believer in them

I will. What they told us they use is kind of like a shock collar, but it doesn't shock, it vibrates. They do not use it as a punishment. They also do not use treats to train them. They said she will be fully train in 10 2 hour classes. I will let you know.

The one I attended with Phx was 6 sessions of 1 hour each in a group setting. Springer prong collars used and no electronics. They were very adamant and instructed how to use the collar without harming the pup. A gentle pop up is all it took after a time or two of the pup over reacting.

I highly recommend this facility for any and all training in the N Scottsdale area.

Trainer said she did good. We he picked her up he asked what side do we want her walking on and what release command do we want to use. We are suppose to give her any commands until the training is done. That part is hard for obvious reasons, but we really don't have to give her many commands. She just seams to know what we want. She seams so smart. I am pretty sure she would have been a good service animal.

Ahhhhhh......Phx was a hands on training with the owner doing the work.

Glad she is doing well. The key of course is consistency after the fact with you and the wife which I am sure you guys will. Our trainer insisted on the left side which I never completely understood why but went with that.

My sister did what you are doing with their German S and he responded very well. He was initially dropped off for a couple of weeks or so before any pick up. Yes.....costly

A little bit of training is awesome when the pup responds.

Winchesters first trip to the desert and mama insisted we bring the wicker chair from our patio because that’s his favorite spot to lay..

@Badchoices03 What type of dog is Winchester? Beautiful. How's temperament? Our last Cane Corso was pretty lazy but also liked to play hard for 15-20 minutes at a time, could run really fast (80lbs but tall). Looking for that. this looking to be a game dog above, may have too much drive and energy for our lifestyle.

We're looking and considering but have not landed on breed. Might go to the pound and get one.

I saw one of these at the airport last week, but looked different. Same coat / etc, but a "beard" - and was the biggest one I'd ever seen at over 100# easy. I mainly see these around 70lbs.

@CLdrinker - love the dog and that progress!!! Sure do miss our PUP - just got the ashes and paw print back couple weeks ago. I still look for her around corners, expect her to be home when I get there, and think she's still at home in general, sad. 😢

Hes a 7 month old German Short Haired Pointer (GSP)...hes definitely a game dog in training with a ton of drive and even more energy, hes not for the faint of heart LOL and really tests my patience at times (most the time actually)....what you saw might have been a German Long Haired Pointer, although they dont normally get over 100lbs....could also be a Griffon Pointer, those get a little bit larger than the GSP/GLP

He said day 2 went really good except we need to tell our friends in the park to ignore her when training. He was walking her and friends would say hi to Holly. I was driving by and saw him working with her and it appeared she was doing what he wanted.

We ordered a vest for her. Ignore/training. We got that for us as well because we will have to continue the training for 90 days. Although, yesterday he said we probably would need to do it that long because she seems to just want to please.

Sounds like everything is going great. A pup that behaves and can hang out with you in social settings is a proud feeling. I know I always did with my pup Roxy. Phx is getting there but can still be a little rambunctious at times. Its a process :)

Xena likes to lounge like this. I think its pretty funny. I need to put a derby on her and a cigar in her mouth and snap a quick pic. Before she eats the cigar. Lol. She sits like this a lot.

@DILLIGAF - Did you say this dog came from a breeder? Or is this a "mix" you got lucky with? Looking for similar.

Looks almost like a Cane mix, w/ Lab or Pit (somewhat similar to ours). Or, is yours a "silver" (blue) Lab?

She is a American Bully XL which does have Mastiff and bully. She has some wrinkles on her head that probably came thru from the Mastiff. I got lucky that the lady had one that had 10 pups. Xena was one of the last and we snatched her. There was no charges involved as the lady just wanted her to have a good home.

She had a brown Male which a lurker was going to take and then the daughter of the lady decided to keep him. He was beautiful as well.

She is approaching or already is 75LBS at slightly over 6 months old. I expect her to hit the 100lb mark. Her tail and ears will never be cut. I hate that

Beautiful pup you have there. Is that a blue lab?

Awesome, thanks for the info - and the consideration on another breed.

Luna (our dog - she passed a few weeks ago) - Was a shelter/rescue from a bad situation. We got her when she was about 1 or 1.5 years old in 2019. We always knew she was Cane Corso (Mastiff) with the blue brindle - obviously mixed with something else, she was tall, lanky and about 80-82lbs. Total temperament of a true Cane Corso (guard dog, shyish, protective, wanted to be around the house).

We did the doggy DNA and next closest breed outside of Mastiff was Rottweiler. I never agreed with that, was an ongoing debate between wife and I what she was mixed with. Had to be Lab, Great Dane mix. She had a very deep chest but really skinny waist and hind end, almost like a greyhound? Not boxy / stout like a Cane Corso. People mistook her for a Weimaraner (w's are way smaller, slighter) but she had the squared off face like a pit. Hard to say, but she was beautiful.

My girl Marley can use all the prayers she can get. She is dealing with an infection and is on three different meds. She is really struggling with breathing. We thought we were going to lose her two nights ago. She’s only 6 years old.

We are having a really tough time dealing with it at home. She is breathing a little better this morning. We’re hoping she is turning around and healing. Please pray for Marley.

Praying that she turns the corner 6 years old is too young hopefully that youth helps her pull through it.

Seams to be working. Without giving her a command she walked next to me on my left. Would not go ahead of me and sat at the front door until i opened it and went inside, Then she entered.
