River Dave, you need to take your SxS from Prescott to Crown King via Senator's highway. You'll even see the old Palace Station on the way there.

If we ever had to live in a town again, Prescott would be it. We spend a lot of time there for biz stuff, butcher, feed, buying steers etc. Skip the mall, it's surprisingly depressing with half the stores closed.

We went to a car show there years ago and it was like coming back home. The place felt so much like the towns I grew up in back in Ohio. It was amazing.

Would be cool to do a fall Lake pleasant to Crown Kind run. I'd love to ride shotgun with someone. Done it on a 450 quad years ago. It's a work out.

Well we went to Goldwater lake.. pretty cool spot!

Then we kept driving farther away and found something called a “fuel break” basically a kinda fire road deal.. went a few miles out and let the dog run around and just be in nature etc..

Cabin is on the way back to town so we stopped and are leaving the dog.. gonna hit the mall maybe? Get an oil change.. mainly not sweat my balls off in havasu lol

We were up there last year hanging out for a hike and picnic. That summer camp was loaded with kayaks. Looks like a fun place for kids.

The "mall" is really sad. When Sears folded, it was already headed down hill. Just before covid I believe, one of the local developers bought the whole thing for about 5 mil. (He's a local car guy, into weird cars.) Well, in the midst of covid, and people flush with money, he sold it for around 10 mil! I don't see any changes going on there though, still a creepy ghost town.

Looks like a nice spot to beat the heat, what’s the temp like? I went to Payson once for a week with my friend to visit his mom during the summer, maybe 5th grade or so. We went tubing down this river several days, fishing etc… it was a cool spot but no idea where. Hell I didn’t even realize Payson was near Prescott until someone pointed it out in this thread 🤷‍♂️

From here, Payson is about a 2.5 hour drive. It's probably the next set of mountains east of us. I think it may be closer to drive from Phoenix than from here. Not really close, but kind of relative to where you left from.

As a kid, traveling from Covina to Santa's Village felt like an odyssey, and river trips took days 🤣 Years later, I worked in LA, and lived in Alta Loma...45 mile commute everyday, minimum.

It says 90’s but honestly it doesn’t feel like it to me? None of us are hot..

We did a run just before it got too hot. Left from WHW, drove up & back. I drove from my house at LPP & Happy Valley. All the way, up and back, no fuel required. (2015 XP4) stock. 88 miles total.

Its gotten pretty bad in a few places. Gotta pay attention. Had one of our group require some straps to keep on all 4.

Both were in our group, I think both would be up for another run, as would I.

Santas Village.... Yep. Grandparents has a place at Lake arrowhead. Felt like forever to get there from Torrance...

The drive "the back way" into Payson is pretty spectacular. We talked about getting a place around Strawberry when we lived out there. So much cooler (temp wise) up in the Rim.

Prescott to Payson is about the same as Anaheim to Barstow.

Stacy was saying we should take a sxs from havasu to Prescott..
That would be cool. We took a trail from Baghdad AZ to Prescott, it was awesome. You come into Williamson valley by Las Vegas Ranch sub division, north of Talking Rock. Super cool ride. The bottom pic is snow in Flagstaff.

The ride to Baghdad from the river wouldn’t be too much different than going to Wikieup but you just stay a bit south like from Alamo.

So a pic of the mini golf at “in the game”.

That place was cool but it seemed like a lot of the games were “pull the handle win tickets” type stuff.. I would like to see more skill games / driving games etc..

The amount of money that place makes in an hr is staggering though.. really had me wondering if we shouldn’t try to open one. 😳. Even on a Wednesday afternoon.. the staff said it gets packed on the weekends.

We started to head back and we were going to hit the Olive Garden but saw “Mi Tierra” Mexican food and decided to stop.. amazing food that is on par with most California Mexican.

We are really liking this town!

It has been discussed already. I really really like it here. Slow pace / friendly people / small town.

I personally can’t leave havasu though.. I have way too much invested to leave.

Summer / weekend getaway location.
Prescott is awesome. My mom had a place north of town that overlooked Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

It was definitely a good time. We went door to door from our house (Asante/ Vistancia) and it was 130 miles round trip for us. Had to get a splash of fuel at CK. They had fuel, but only 87.

This coming season I’d really like to take Senator Highway up to Prescott and stay overnight.

A ride to Alamo Lake, and maybe even all the way to Havasu would be a good time, too.

I’ve got a good amount of PTO I will need to burn this fall before the end of the year, so I’m planning on doing quite a bit of camping/ riding/ duning beginning in October.

I still have my Craftsman chain saw I bought from there. I love malls and that one and Flagstaff mall are depressing to see now. I just saw they are knocking down the Fiesta mall in Mesa. Went there eons ago.

Stacy asked me to do jist that.. lol. I’m not sure I’m the pilot type. I’m more the passenger type in that scenario. Lol

Strangely though I’ve flown enough that I can land a plane if the pilot passes out for some reason.. 🤪🤪
This just happened in Martha’s Vineyard over the weekend. The pilot had a medical emergency and a woman had to land the plane.

That's what we love about Alpine . But Alpine is way smaller than Prescott . We have only 3 restaraunts and one is only open for breakfast and lunch . A small mom and pop grocery store . And a place called the Tackle Shop . They have all kinds of fishing and camping stuff and bare necessities of food . They are also the only place to get fuel . You have to drive 25min away to Eager/Springerville to get stuff . They have all major grocery stores and things like Napa , Ace hardware etc, etc .

Everyone keeps asking how hot it is..

I took this around noon.. Stacy and I did all our work outside in the patio and it was nice!

That said Stacys got a ton of re shit going on so I grabbed the kids went and got an oil change and we are on whiskey row walking around.

I can’t for the life of me figure out why uploading pics in downtown is so slow but it’s relatively normal at our cabin.

Either way if this is hot sign me up.. my friends and even my assistant Jake are all leaving havasu right now. Everyone is over it. Fucking hot

That place is really good!

If your feeling a little undecided and dont mind a 25 minute drive there is a restaurant in Chino Valley called el paraiso.

Its Mexican and Italian and its quite delicious

Western heritage preservation deal.. this place is awesome for adults and kids! I highly recommend not walking through it quickly but really diving in and checking out each exhibit. The volunteers will expound on them.. kids absolutely loved it.

If you like good brisket try Lucky's BBQ in Mayer. You won't regret it. Small family owned/operated restaurant. The proprietor is Frank and his wife America. Good people. I miss it badly..

That place and big daddy E's (aka up in smoke) are my favorite bbqs in the area. But colt doesn't disappoint. Do you know if they have opened back up? They were doing some renovations or something but the shop looks like its been closed for a while now. His smokers are all there still but they haven't been smoking.

At first I was thinking harmless.. but upon closer inspection I’m not entirely sure?

Either way I guided Stacy back and we ran it over with the car because we didn’t have any tools to deal with it.

What say you? Poisonous? Or?

I think he is poisonous..

My take away.. I would totally stay in this place again!

Preskitt/ Prescott is an AWESOME town and we will definitely be back! I love the country vibe here, and the stores and the bars etc..

I could see Whiskey Row as kind of a rough and tumble place at night or during the weekends but I’d assume if you don’t go looking for it I don’t expect it would find you..

I will have Stacy post a link to the vrbo but I’m sure there’s better ones out there. We loved the cute cabin deal..

alpine az is over 8000 ft in elevation 👍and they have aspens.....
SHHH!

Rains all summer. Huge storms. Out of control black bear population. State record is almost 900 pounds. My buddy was chased while bow hunting there. Another friend had his camper door ripped off by a bear while out trout fishing the Black River. Almost no amenities to speak of.
