I'll choose to celebrate the time I was fortunate to be with Carl. He was a friend, a resource, a fixture in the boating community and a genuinely talented and good person. I can honestly say that I never heard him say something bad about another and I'm a better man for knowing him. RIP sir. I'll look you up on the other side. :D

Dave, thank you ever so much for providing a forum for someone like Carl for us to be associated with and to communicate with. It's crystal clear from the kind words spoken here that they knew him well and I sincerely appreciate your forum for this reason. Thank you again. Signing off again!

I'm so glad I came out for Carls dam to dam run this last year. I can't even express the love and respect I have for Carl. He put my wife and I up at his place at Katerines landing along with Paul (OD1). We had an amazing time with him and we also got to celebrate his 62nd Bday after our 124 mile boat ride in Pauls Schiada. There has been countless weekends that I'll never forget with him at Catalina Ski races, Billy B events and long beach races. Truly a sad day this is! Rest in Peace Carl. I'll see ya on the next river! [emoji1317]

Oh man I dreaded that there was a possibility of this and today a nightmare came true. I have tears flowing, some are for the sadness of this huge loss and a few are happy tears because I was one of the lucky fortunate people that met Carl and got to hang with him a few times at his home. I will never forget his smile, it was very contagious, and also his handshake, it was so sincere whether it was your first time meeting him or fiftieth. As we all know Carl was one of the best human beings that come along maybe once in a persons life and we should all try to be a little more like him, The world would be such a better place!!!
Godspeed Carl, rest peacefully my friend

Such a sad day. I first met Carl around 7 or 8 years ago. He was always my favorite person to run into at races, shows, and Fox's. Super positive attitude, always in high spirits, genuinely friendly...and he wasn't just a "nice" dude...he was truly one of the best folks I've ever met. I hung with him a few times at his place in Whittier, Coors Lights, talkin' about boats...his...mine...and everyone else's that got dropped off in his backyard over the years. He generously let me park a boat in his yard for a few days too.

If there's one thing I know about Carl...he loved the v-drive boat scene and he loved these forums(PB & RDP). We'd sit in his garage yappin' and he'd be checking his computer for new posts and he'd ask me if I saw "that post by RCL about an hour ago" and laugh and tell me what so-and-so replied...and so on. He loved it all.

Rest In Peace Carlito. You'll be missed and I'll never forget your kind, cool, style. Damn you had style...

Sitting here, looking back and reading about the relationship Carl had with so many people, It makes you wonder how he could of been "special" to us all. That trait is what defined him. Once you were his friend, you became a good friend, a special friend. Meeting up months, weeks, days or hours since the last time, it didn't matter. You knew there would be no need to be reacquainted because it felt like you never parted. Some how it seems that once again, when our paths cross in another dimension, our special friend will again be there to greet us.

As we toast our friend Carl, picture in your mind the gathering of friends he most definitely has on the other side. The laughter. The stories. The love.

I've got a feeling the dam to dam run may become an annual memorial to Carl. I can see it becoming huge. The bible teaches us that out of body is in the presence of the Lord. Rest in Peace Carl. It's not good by, it's see 'ya later.

***** Carl ********
Today I had a moment!!!
I am not a religious person by any means, but this evening I had a moment.
After reading Rd's 6 PM post & toast I wanted to make sure I participated in Carl's memory.
As my family was prepping to head out to dinner for the night, I snuck out into the garage at 5:57. Not that I needed to sneak, but just wanted to have a quiet moment in Carl's memory. Before I get ahead of myself, I live in San Juan Capistrano where the mission bells ring every hour on the hour 24/7. I have spent countless hours out in my garage restoring my boat for the last several years & can honestly say I only hear the bells on Sunday mornings anymore when the city is quiet. We live at least 3 miles as the crow flies & on Sunday's, I still hear those bells early as I plan my days objectives on the boat. With today's hustle & bustle, Sunday's are really the only day I hear the bells anymore.
Back to the moment,
My wife jenifers all time favorite movie is a wonderful life. Those of you familiar with the story know that when they hear the bell ring an Angel gets his wings.

As I stepped out into the garage to have my own personal toast to Carl.
I have a garage fridge filled with beer, but I also have a bottle of single barrel Jack that was given to me by a dear friend. Knowing Carl loved the JD, I figured it would be the appropriate toast to his life. So just as I took a shot for Carl & I felt the JD hit the back of my throat the clock hit 6:00. Standing in my garage right at that second I heard the mission bells clearly as if it was a Sunday morning at 6:00 am.
It hit me ~ Carl had just received his wings.

I actually whispered to myself, are you fucking kidding me..
Anyone that knew him, consider yourself blessed

Carl was one of the most compassionate and nicest people I've ever had the privilege to meet. I'm going to miss him greatly. While I wouldn't say I was a really close friend, Carl had a way about him where he made everyone feel like a close friend whether it was the first time you met, or the 101st time you met him. We talked at the races often, about racing, about anything, boats, non-boats, dogs, whatever. He called me a few times, hey mike we're havin a little get together at the house Friday night, cmon by if you can. Just a few vdrive guys shootin the shit. I showed up a few times and it was always thoroughly enjoyable. You didn't leave hungry or thirsty. That is how Carl rolled. Now I wish of course I'd showed up every time. My heart is heavy knowing my phone will never ring again with the familiar name popping up "Campbell Carl". Life gets hard as you age, more and more of your buddies not here any longer. Carl was a year younger than myself. Makes you think, just makes you stop and think, start living life to the fullest while you have life left to live. That is what Carl did. Godspeed my friend.

I met Carl at one of the RDP camp outs in Parker a few years ago. I brought John "outnumbered" out with me as he wanted to say thanks for all the people that helped him during his cancer battle. Carl's smile was so infectious. He was a model stand up nice, caring person. My last memory of him in person was him inviting me into his motor home to put me a drink from his well stocked bar. He served me a nice glass tumbler with ice. Carl then saw my watch I was wearing and asked me what time it was. That same hand had my drink in it. Being under the influence of alcohol I tilted my hand with drink in it to see what time it was. Needless to say the look on Carl's face was priceless as I dumped my cocktail on the floor of his Moho. He laughed his ass off and said you better clean that sticky shit off that floor so when I walk barefoot I didn't step in it. Slapped me on the back called me a dumbass ass and said pour your own drink next time and bring a sippy cup. When ever someone ask what time it is when I am drinking I remember this moment.

May you drink in peace with the Heavenly Father Carl. Your infectious smile, good looks and your passion for fun and life will be missed.

Jeff

A mans life is only for him to live and share with others as he chooses. Carl made sure to touch as many people's lives as he could because that made him happy. Here at the River Daves Place we were part of that gift that he gave us and others. Thank you Carl, I will miss you my friend and think about you often.

Sharing My sadness with all for the loss of Campbell Carl. I give gratitude to a man I never looked in the eye or shook hands with. I feel lucky that He shared about his life and wonderful events throughout the years.

What an amazing person and what a remarkable Man to have such a big Family of caring Friends.

Lay in peace Carl. I will miss you.

I didn't know Carl other than his postings on this site but was feeling my own cousins passing today and read the card posted on the fridge and thought it might apply for another lover of the water...
