Is Cali pushing to get rid of all natural gas use? I'd heard no new builds, but what about existing things? I've been around commercial buildings with some pretty big boiler assemblies. I can't imagine the wattage required to replace a 4" gas line. The added load per high rise would be massive. New substations and lines I would think too.

Basically the large Green Agenda Citys are all pushing to remove Nat Gas from all City Owned buildings. Which includes Police Stations, Fire Depts, Jails, prisons, etc etc etc.

Again, It a major push to retrofit / replace all the Nat Gas appliances/heaters/boilers etc, to Electricity.

A consulting firm TRC is writing alot of the specs for these RFP’s.

Yet natural gas is one of their main sources of electricity...
I'm glad I'm dumb, the smart people are idiots 🤪

Never underestimate the real force behind many idiots believing in a cause.
Especially when they are led by smart idiots.
lot of individual homes lack the infrastructure to make these moves. 200amp service panels are getting to be too small...so 400's are being installed...possibly even 600's?
WELLL....
Everything gets old, needs refurbishment. Some will maintain the elderly infrastructure. good for them. Others will marvel at their ability and care in keeping a gem well polished, even after its design and infrastructure are clearly dated. They do this for many reasons, and none of them are bad or wrong.
people should be free, and they should be able to choose how they spend their simoleans. if they can't afford it, don;t like it, feel angry about it, ...whatever ... the world is a big diverse place. lots of choice. pursue happy.

Well at least the California legislature managed to come up with some bill that allows Diablo to stay open and Newsome signed it. So even the idiots on the left know there is a major electrical problem in the state.

One thing I was wrong about is that if enough people used EV's and Hybrids it would bring the demand for gas down causing lower gas prices. But gas prices have only gone up. Very unfortunate situation

It only shifts the demand for petroleum products upstream.
Less than half of all crude is refined into gasoline for use in cars in this country.

CA represents about 12% of the national new car sales market.
By 2026 35% of that 12% will have to be EV if things stand as is.
While definitely measurable, That is not a huge amount of gasoline sales.
The impact on the $137 BILLION annual CA new car market however is significant.

CA is mandating a non-sustainable technology as a solution to future transportation energy needs.
It’s an even bigger dead end than the last century of internal combustion technology that has left us where we are today.
All just to “feel good”.

In the 70s and 80s We would burn oil in our power plants about 30% of the time. Pain in the ass! The plants were built as duel fuel but we phased oil out. Best thing we ever did.

Grid is normal waiting for 11 hot days in August. Capacity factors for the next 8 months are below 25% for the gas plants. Many of the plants are off line not needed.

Demand is down, so naturally prices will go down, right. 🤣
Oddly enough, they couldn’t lower them without a rate case with the CPUC. But if they truly could sell at demand rates similar to Uber there would never be another rolling blackout. Public utilities are currently pure socialism and there in lies the problem.

They actually do go down on the spot markets. Most IPPs have a 20 year contract With the utility that requires payments every month weather they generate or not. I do no one IPP that would build a 2 Billion dollar plant without a solid contract backed by a utility or city. During the dow time power plants go into maintenance outages where the spend big money.

Where was this post when 70,000 people where out, right after the earthquake?

Timing is everything I guess.
