Offer 25. If he says pound sand, oh well.

I offered 28 and he said no.. I offered thirty green money right now I’m in the truck. He said no.
He really wants his 32. Good for him I think he will get it!

Come to think of it. Im pretty sure I saw this boat up in atwater. It was at gabriels custom marine interior when I dropped my boat off in April. I believe he said they did the interior and some gel work. Very clean boat, but i agree with others. Over priced.

martinez did the interior

I have a 2019 Malibu listed in the classifieds that I’ll sell you, and deliver.

I really don’t want to spend more than 35-39k on a boat for the kids..

gets to be more than that and it’s gonna be the new “family” permanent boat and not the “temp” boat. Lol.

gotta bear in mind my primary boat is only worth some where between 60-70k..

We aren’t rollin DCB’s over here

Inboards only page on Facebook. Sellers name is Joshua Nie. It’s my wife’s account and I don’t know how to share listings.
Here’s his main account if you want to look him up.

what are your thoughts? Good boat for the kids? It look for a v drive?

Years back I had the v drive Malibu I think 03 or 04 had a ton of room also had a cool table that popped up that the wife loved the u shaped seating and the swivel drivers seat made it where everyone except the bow could be around the table.
Food for thought these boats do not plane they plow and the fuel mileage is bad at best. Another note it’s great the prop is in front of the rudder but they don’t back up well around docks.

All in all seem high should be a 20-25k boat in this market a v would bring a bit more.

The only reason my 270 is even potentially on the chopping block is it's very difficult for me to run it with my ankle the way it is.. Can't get off the bow.. Stand up while driving.. no flat surfaces (meaning horizontal, they are all angled to the waterline) to walk on.. If I go run it my ankle is swollen and killing me for 2 days. Being crippled sucks, which is why I was kinda looking for a pontoon or maybe a wake boat where everything is just easy to get in and out of etc.. "temp boat".

RD
Hi Dave,
Re powering the 270 does not make any sense to me. That boat is a 70-75 mph boat and putting more HP to is a waste of money. You don't want to go faster than 80 in that hull. When it starts chine walking you will understand.
Probably buy the ski boat and use it until you are tired of it and them flip it (not flip in the water, but for sale!)
My thoughts,
Dave K.

I hear a lot about chine walk. Would you mind explaining what that is. Not to hijack the thread.

Chine walking is a condition that, in general, high powered, higher speed, mostly flat bottom boats can get into, when 99% of the boat is out of the water, skimming along on the outdrive, and the boat will tip from side to side, as one chine touches the water, the force causes the boat to tip the other way...as the other chine touches the water, the force causes the boat to tip back, and so on and so on......in extreme cases the boat can dig in and spin 90 degrees coming to an abrupt stop, launching the driver

Chine Walking is as described as above but I will add more common on a V hull and as you get to the higher speeds the hull is just running on the center of the V and as it starts to occilate each occilation get bigger and more violent and by the time you get to the third occilation you better have either closed the throttles or put the tabs down to get back in control. I found that on my Hallett 270 straight bottom if I left the tabs down just a tad there was no chine walk, but with them all the way up at full throttle,
Well you just didn't want to do that.

When a boat starts to lean left and then right at speed bouncing back and forth.. generally speaking it gets progressively worse with time and speed

The motors have a lot of hours and need valve guides.. I am not putting gone of power in it, just heads / cams etc.. 375hp ea to maybe 425-450..

I wouldn’t even get into the realm of problems at the speeds we are talking about.

That said did you ever try to change your setup? Because I have ridden in a straight bottom 270 with twin small blocks and whipples and we were running 96 mph (for a time side by side with another boat) and it was Rock solid.. with a little more left to go!

I never changed the set up, just as it left the factory, the only thing I did was add full hydraulic steering, it already had hydraulic on the transom, so we put an IMCO helm and setup to the transom. That was a big improvement. I just never fully raised the K-Planes. The boat ran 80 mph and that was enough for me.

Those are great ski boats for sure, and they ride better than any tournament boat.. But they aren't full on "tractors" like a tow boat. Plus I'd feel pretty horrible putting antlers on a Schiada.. ?? :D.

Well I'm trying to slow the roll on some of that, and be smart with $$ and build a duplex and a house in bullhead.. LOL Besides it was Quads Karl... Quads!

I was literally just going to rebuild the motors I have, put heads / cams etc.. and take them from 375 - 450'ish.. It's affordable and my boat already runs pretty damn fast.. with 900HP it'd be really fast if I changed the setup a little (pulled the drives up etc..).

Impossible to say at this point, because I'd be changing quite a few things at once. The setup on my boat is Ultra ultra conservative.

All Halletts are extremely conservative from my experience. They were/are user friendly boats. There’s a reason they have the reputation they do. I have picked up nearly 20 mph with changing my setup and power combo around. Was it worth it , I’m not sure, but it’s fun to drive.

That being said I’d think you’d be much better off with that 270 in the long run. That’s a boat you can take the family and explore. Shasta, Idaho, ozarks, Travis, etc.

Can't speak to the step halletts but the straight bottom 270 can take a ton of power.

maybe just try a new prop...

seriously tho... labor day weekend ends the boating season for many under normal circumstances (2020 not normal so who knows now). But, will the dirt and sand toys be selling for high dollars this season? you can only hope so if your can am is still for sale...

Maybe the boating market levels out or drops a bit, just a thought. Respectively, the guy wants $32k for his Malibu, its nice and we know the price is inflated under todays status, he want s to collect what he has invested and most of us all know we never get paid for what we have invested into our toys.

I dunno RD, for a difference of $2k I think he missed the sale (30k today vs 32k later or even 0 tomorrow, he missed out today). September and October are great months for da lake, but how much time will you and the fam get outta that boat before you try to flip it for $25k and take the loss?

just wait for your twin powered toon

Last I talked to Dave he told me he wasn’t buying anything he was saving money. Then he went and bought the truck. Now he’s looking to buy a temporary ski boat. I’m just joking. As far as him building a duplex in bhc everyone told me I was crazy when I bought there. Same when 2FF was selling lots a couple years back. Didn’t think it would be too hard to put together but I guess I was wrong.

A serious question, does Bullhead have the same rental potential the Havasu does?

Speaking strictly for ratios it is actually better. The houses are 100+k cheaper and the rent is nearly the same

I need to stop being such a tight ass and just buy a truck and your 270. When I pass my cwi exam I’m buying something for sure

I pulled my 270 with a half ton for years. I bought my 350 because I got a great deal on it and the prices on 150’s went through the roof so I was able to sell it for a price I was extremely happy with.

I was able to get out of my 150 and into a 16 platinum with 1/3 the miles for about 25k.. seemed like a good decision for n my part.

I wish an rdp member would have bought my 150 as a daily or for a kid or something.. thst was an awful nice truck

@RiverDave

i still have a 2001 Infinity V-drive ski boat after owning two Malibu boats. Malibu is a GREAT boat.

In 2001, the first V-drive ski boat came out and they were an instance success for wakeboarding and still had a nice wake for tubing and skiing. They were very popular for severals years until the surf boats came along. This boat is a 'tweener' boat, between the traditional tow boats for salom and the new surf boats. As someone said, great for skiing and tubing, pretty good for wakeboarding, and forget about surfing. BUT, it's also a great boat for family fun, should run close to 50, good on gas (i burn 4-5 gals/hr), and surprisingly decent in rough water.

The problem with this boat is that there is NO market today. My Infinity has a bimini, barefoot boom, extended wake pylon, and awesome stereo. A year ago i put it up for sale @ 12K, then 10K, then 8.5K and only got low baller calls - so i kept it and gave it to my daughter to use in WA state. If you buy it, i will bet that you'll probably have it forever. When your kids are 16 or so they can take the boat out without you!

i would negotiate hard on the price and enjoy it with the fam.

I’m not gonna get into all the ins and outs of what’s up with the “shuffle” we got going on.. but short and shorter is either keep the Hallett and repower or sell..

Either way I’m gonna need a temp boat if the Hallett is down at Boostpower for months, or a new boat is getting built.

I found this boat for 32k. Has 279 hours is a 2003 with a updated 2010 wake tower on it. Guy spent 21k on interior / tower / stereo etc.. looks clean. It is a Malibu Wake Setter

I know Jack shit about tow boats. I do know this isn’t a surf boat because it’s a direct drive.. but I was thinking I could teach kids to ski / wakeboard / tube etc have fun with it. My Hallett is a little big for that kinda stuff.

What are your thoughts on this for 32k?

PS if you are just gonna make shitty comments about antler boats stop.. the kids need to do some water activities, and this is something I wouldn’t mind leaving in the marina or PArker for 3-4 weeks at a time. My other boats not so much.

A boat needs to fill a desire of the owner.

If you want to ski, buy a direct drive ski boat. The towers have the advantage when teaching because they pull up instead of straight forward. You can install a barefoot boom on the ski boat and they can ski right off the side of the boat and you can talk to them while they ski and you can correct bad technique (I highly recommend this option). My general take is to spend as little as possible on a boat with a narrow usage profile like a ski boat. $5-15K max. A straight drive ski boat is not going to handle rough water very well and you should understand that before going down that road. Also the ski boat is going to get scuffed and marred from equipment so spending as few $$$ as possible makes this easier to accept. I don;t like having to chase folks about shoes, food, drinks, suntan lotion, etc. When the boat is cheap enough you simply don't care. Let the first owner have that indigestion. I spend money on the mechanicals and make sure everything there is perfect. Zero on upholstery, carpet, stereos, or any of that shiny stuff. Out, does the job and in to the dock. I had an '88 Mastercraft Prostar 190 that I bought for $4500 and skied the crap out of that boat for 15 years. Replaced the engine twice and sold the boat for the same $4500. Bought another 15 year old Mastercraft for $9500 this spring before the 'Rona price rise, did some minor mechanical work to it and put 150 hours on it this year.

The Hallett is a big boat and repower certainly would change how you feel about it. Don't have an opinion on the efficacy of repower. Depends whether you want to own it for years to come or flip it in a few.

I own waterfront property so I am not forced to choose. In the mornings it is the ski boat, afternoon its sport boat. Then there is the AMF Sunfish, kayaks, and a small fishing/utility. Like them all. I sold my Eliminator Sport this summer for stupid money with no regrets, and am looking for something new to me. I always wanted a v-drive hot rod, but I want to drive one first.
