Well all these pool threads got me JONESIN for a pool…

I don’t know how you all can put up with all the Dirt & Dust - it’s taken a few weeks to get rid of the saw dust !
I went w/ a simulated “non slip” travertine look for the decking - the color will fade w/ time….

So far I love it!
Beers are great in the pool after a long day on the lake ! Although my wife hasn’t been in it yet….

We got some concrete work done outside of the pool, driveway repair, pad for the outdoor bar, and pads for the cactus. Stoked to finally get these cactus stood up and mounted. Kids got a bunch of fencing done yesterday, and the Dog is ready for his pool to be filled.
Sounds like tile guys will be starting today as well.

Love the metal cactus! Is there a concern for lightning hitting it? Is a grounding rod necessary for them?

Funny you ask, I was asking myself the same thing last night. I do have some trees that are quite a bit taller, and my neighbors have some pretty damn palm trees. Hoping they take a hit before I do.

I wouldn't mind some sort of expert letting me know. wouldn't be hard to ground them I don't think.

I'm thinking ground rods buried deep into the soil, with a clamp at the base of the cactus. What I don't know is would it protect the occupants in the pool? I'm no electrician, so I would recommend a deep dive into the need, or not need.

Moving along. This was the other night. Lightning hit a palm tree at Echo and caught it on fire. Imagine those cactus would be like a Lightning rod. As long as nothing conductive connects them to the pool. I don't think it would do much except damage to the cactus. Easy to drive a ground rod and connect but what size ground wire works with a bolt of lightning.

OK, so I'm looking at all my neighbors, they have much taller flag poles, including the 1 in my front yard. What would the difference be?

I'm assuming that the cactus is bolted eo a footing ? Rebar in the footing, what more would a ground rod do ?

Great JOB !
We never had an exact completion date, but by my math, no, we're about 3-4 weeks behind.
We're nearing the end though, coping and decking should be a couple weeks, and then once my fence is complete and "hopefully" bought off by the inspector, then it's pebble, and fill with water.
Hoping to be in it swimming just before TG weekend.

We're about 3 months since they broke ground, the original time frame was done in 3 months.

10/20/24 Update.

Coping is all complete, and Pavers are almost completed, they should be finished today.
Next up is building the fire pit, and installing the stacked stone on the Spa and Firepit.
Then it's electrical, and final inspection from the county. I'm hoping we're just a couple weeks away from putting water in this thing, pending my fence being approved by the PIA inspector.

Weather was killer this weekend, so on a side note, it was finally nice enough to pull out the Hot Rod out for a nice breakfast.

Pavers are all complete, gates/fencing is complete, need to install stone on Spa and firepit, and finish the table and stools.
We're calling for final inspection on the 4th. There's light at the end of the tunnel now.

Every time I click on your build, it just keeps getting better !

I hope your doing some landscape lighting to enhance the evenings !
There are only 2 flowerbeds, and there will be some, but minimal lighting in them, my plan/vision, is to only light up the tall cactus at night. The pool will be lit, and the outdoor bar I'll be building will have some sconce's on them, which will give some light. The wife wants some of those bistro lights somewhere as well, but I'll get to those after the bar to see if we need more light.

That other giant dirt area, is going to be all turf, the DG is already leveled off and ready for install. I somehow got talked into doing that myself, and the boss wants it done before we have people over, so thats coming soon.

Sandcastle has been great to deal with so far, there's been a few hiccups, but nothing major, and their subs appear to be top notch. Everything that has been done so far is high quality craftsmanship.

Well we ran into a snafu this morning. Apparently the ledger stone we picked out is a slate product, and the PB is recommending that we DO NOT use it. They say the slate is going to start to flake, and then fall off around the pool, and under the spa spillway.
So now we need to find a new stone for the spa and firepit. We're pretty particular about what we wanted it to look like, and the colors.
So back to the drawing board.

FYI, this is what we had picked out.
Resized_IMG_2670_1720709664267.jpeg

Apparently we need to find a quarts or travertine that resembles that. I found this one, that looks close, and I think I might like the "block" version better.

Anyone got any suggestions? I'm open to ideas, as long as it looks 100% the opposite of modern.

This is what we got from MSI and we’ve had no issues. I’m sure they have the colors you’re looking for.

Latest update:
Spa and Firepit ledger stone installed. We're not totally stoked on it, but when we wet it, it looks great, so we plan on applying some color enhancer.
Got my raised Corten flower beds installed. Barstools and table finished, electrical complete, and gave the PB a punch list of stuff we want touched up.
And......The best part, pre-plaster inspection completed and no issues found, which means my enclosure design passed.
We're supposed to be installing Pebble and starting filling this week, we'll see if they get that on the books, or if it gets moved to next week.

Good move on switching out the slate. Our pool was built with that (by previous owners) and it started to flake. Chips fell in the pool and became "powdery". We finally had to redo it and replaster as well.
This project is turning out amazing. The sunset pic really shows up the top line of your fencing and makes it all come together. Nice work.

Damn, I'm loving the colors of those light blue tiles! Where the hell did you find such cool tiles? They look killer in this desert oasis setup. Can't wait to see finished pool!

We picked them out at Modern Edge in Lake Havasu, but I have no idea who makes them. We originally were going with a spanish Mosaic, but when the "boss" saw these, she fell in love with them. Luckily I liked them too, so there was no battle at all.

Here we go, there is definitely a light a light at the end of the tunnel now. Spa is filled, and now filling the pool.
Took a pic of my water meter so I know how many gallons this thing is without doing math. Start up folks show up Monday to start running pumps and getting the water squared away. I'll be up here all week, putting in 700 sq/ft of turf.
Anyone want to guess the gallons? It's approximately 36x18, with an 8ft deep end.

27,620 gl

but that’s with an avg depth of 5ft
would need more info to get more accurate guess
with Baja , and shallow end, and how big transition from shallow deep, could be 22,600

5k gl swing, doesn’t make much difference anyway, lol

Finally Full. Finished up around 11pm last night. I overfilled it by about 2", I may or may not have been all buzzed up, then slept thru my alarm.

Resized_20241111_065602_1731333885317.jpeg

And the water meter this morning.

Resized_20241111_060246_1731333884490.jpeg

Looks like 17,000 gallons. Less than I thought it would be.
Start up people are supposed to show up this morning, so I'm looking forward to playing with some lights tonight, and hopefully turning the waterfall on.
