We didn’t do travertine or kool deck. I was skeptical but my neighbors did and I has held up for 10 years and looks great.

We did Kool Deck on our pool and love it! Our builder suggested it too. It’s only been a little over a year so I can’t attest to the long term wear. We also added a splatter coat of white, black, and gray over a taupe color which we thought looked quite a bit better than just a flat color. Here’s a couple pics.

Kool deck if applied properly can hold up for many many years. If on a budget you could opt to do coating later. Would be less to just add color to the concrete, maybe add some turf between and make large pavers in concrete. Will be hot, but so is everything in the desert in summer. Wear flip flops problem solved, lol
Other option would be pavers, actually should be able to get for less then concrete and kool deck. Earth tones have been out for years, so most that have in stock will give discounts to get rid of it.

National pool tile has Mexican style tiles with a white base. So you can get your look with a light tile. Next look into epoxy grout, can’t pull efflorescence from a material that isn’t cement based. Grout lines is where efflorescence is the worst with normal cement based grouts. Epoxy grout is not cheap but worth it.
Salt cells carry a 3-5year warranty depending on manufacture. 3 cells in 4 years is crazy. I’d assume service guy isn’t cleaning or not good at what he does. Maintenance is key, normal maint would be clean every 3 months, in hard water areas you may need to clean more often. Otherwise they will build up calcium across the plates and reduce flow to shit, and can burn up cells prematurely.
The process of salt cells - Salt cells produce hypochlorus acid, this is the active form of chlorine in your pool water that is in every chlorinated pool, regardless if salt, tabs, granular, or liquid. Chlorine in its purest form is actually a gas, but when you dissolve it in water, you get hypochlorous acid. This is the good part of salt cells. Now the bad, sodium hydroxide, this is the byproduct of saltwater chlorine generation. The sodium that was in the salt has to go somewhere, so it combines with hydrogen and oxygen from the water and forms this substance. Sodium hydroxide has a naturally high ph. This is why salt pools are a constant battle adding muriatic acid to lower ph, to bring it back to ideal levels. Some opt to install an acid feed system. Not necessary, and can easily be combated manually. You just have to learn your pool and what it requires. Note, the salt in pool only leaves from splash out, leaks, or refills. The process of salt to chlorine is a never ending cycle.

Thank you for the reply, we met with a few builders now, and pretty sure we have it narrowed down to who we are going to use.
We decided on using a travertine coping, and pavers. Adding in some planter boxes, and some turf for the dogs to lower the overall foot print of all of the Pavers, to help on cost as well as the Dogs will like having some turf.
We're also staying with a regular chlorinated pool, without at an inline chlorinator.
Using all Pentair equipment and adding a glacier pool chiller, seems expensive, but it also seems to be able to cool a pool down fairly well, which would be nice in the summer.
For pool control we're looking at the Pool Side attendant, or the Pentair intelliconnect. We haven't decided on that one yet.

Just purchased another house, it needs huge $$. So total remake front and rear, pool shell is fine. Concrete decking is cracked, so considering limestone with fake grass between in Vegas. Your thoughts? I will post a thread as we progress, it basically is a 1-acre gated estate. We bought it well, most would not take on a big project for 6 months. Property has a huge pond, island, and 22 palm trees, sort of like Bali or Kauai, NO desert plants.

Thats good news. I think I got the same time frame, but I've been using 6 months as my time frame so I'm not disappointed.

Got most of our tile, coping, pavers etc......picked out.

I have no idea what that tile is called, but the wife loved it so, that's our choice.
Now trying to decide on the table top color, and texture, that's all we have left to pick out.

Had to make a run up there yesterday, my cactus were finished, so I got them dropped off.

Met with the third fencing contractor and made our choice of fencing.
We really hoped to not fence in the pool, but the chain link is too big for code, so one option was stringing the small chain link so it would pass inspection, but I got quoted 17-20K to string new fencing all around. Had them also quote a wrought iron fence around the pool.
I had seen this fence on a property in Mohave Valley, turns out the Fusion dock company guys built it, called them, and the owner said he doesn't do fencing and was way to busy to tackle it. He said one of his guys would probably be interested in doing it. Couple younger guys showed up, measured it all and sent me a quote. they're about 3K less than the other two I got, and they're doing something way more custom than just a square deal fence.
Anyway, here's our final decision on the fencing around the pool, should tie in nice with the look we're going for, and not look so basic.

The only real bummer with this one is that the lowest valley will have to be set at 5ft per code, which means some sections of the tops will be over 6ft. I didn't want it that tall. I'm debating figuring out a way to set it a the correct height for code, and then after inspection, dropping it down a foot or more, so it's only 4ft at it's highest. Not sure of an easy way to do that, that won't be obvious to the Inspector.
Any one got ideas? Anyone see any concerns with this fencing passing code?

How about some removable bolt on sections for the low spots. After the final inspection just remove the bolt ons.

I'm thinking maybe the mounting posts are 2", but have 1.5" leg slid in and bolted, and after inspection, removed bolts, let and let the 2" slide down over the 1.5" a foot?

Plumbing is finished except for the chiller

Well that didn't go quite as planned. Plumbers decided to take a week break before they finished, and re-bar was finished last thursday. Inspector didn't like a couple things with the depth of a trench that wasn't being decked over, and also requested some re-bar modifications. They got that all fixed up Friday and Saturday, and the Inspector is supposed to be here today, and they are scheduled to shoot the concrete Wednesday.

I took the opportunity of all these trenches and ran some conduit and water lines for a future bar/kitchen and landscaping.
We also got our first piece of enclosure fencing dropped off so the Inspector can buy it off before we build it all and install. Hoping to not run into any inspection issues/delays as it progresses.

We found the style around an empty piece of property in Mohave Valley, they told us that their son built it for them, and that he owns the Fusion Dock company. Got ahold of him, and he said he didn't have time for that but one of his guys might like a side gig, so we have two young dudes building it all for us as a side hustle. I couldn't be happier with them, they kicked ass and started building the very next day.

Do NOT use steel round the pool, it will never last. Use aluminum. As to fencing, did u hake a deal yet? We sell our aluminum all the time for fencing. If not, DM me for direct contact, I may have some ideas and pricing.

If you can find VanRooy to do your pool then do it, good guy but I hear hes moved on. All I know is do research research research and talk to people's builders because some are not what they say they are, sorry to say that but its true.
Ours is like 13 years old now and if I could sell it I would, used it when it was new and grand kids were young but now a PITA.

Will do, we are attaching to the outside face of the block retaining wall, so not attaching to the deck. We have 18" of block on the lowest portion, and much more on the highside, so 4ft of fencing on top of it, should be getting us our minimum of 5ft.
We're trying to minimize how how the fencing is from inside the pool area. Sent the drawing to the Inspector and he approved it, so hoping he approves it in person.

That's sucks, rebar is cheap. These guys are giving all their profit back being cheap and dealying next trades. Just do it overkill and pass inspection. Sucks your delayed again. Fence is bad ass!!

It wasn't that they cheaped out, there was something with the plans and the inspector not interpreting them correctly, so he wanted more rebar under the rock and slide.
I also have the inspector on the scene that we were hoping we wouldn't get. He wears his badge on his hip.

Its mounted with the pool equipment, and I have no idea how loud they are, but my equipment is pretty far from my pool area, and not near any windows.
I didn't want to see or hear it.

Looks great and I really like those rustic + other cool fences LP does. Just tore out my pool we built 20 years ago out last week for an ADU. No issues with it but check out the time capsule from the gunite in a corner seat .

Yep - wood float lol . Mix looks pretty suspect right there too... but it never leaked or had any major issues . Yours looks like it is going to turn out really nice

Finally got a good pic of my parents pool they just had revamped over this past winter. They got a little baja shelf/ Morocco step made for the grandkids. New pebble tech, coping, and tile. Think it ran only $20k not a bad deal

Crazy to think the pool was only $30k back in 2003 lol
