Even the nurse has a funny look on her face. She thinks it sucks too.

Last time I had staples in me, my wife took em out with a regular ol staple remover.

Hope you didn't come all the way to CA just for that!!!

Looks like it healed up nicely.

Well I never have had staples. How bad was it? Did you take anything to help with the pain. The wife goes in tomorrow to take out her staples. We are wondering if any pain med is needed. She is thinking no at this point.

She will he fine. Mine sucked a little because I have been in a wrap for awhile so some of them got pretty imbedded etc.

The first one she clipped and it broke and one side got sucked under the skin. Lol. I told Stacy to get her mom tweezer our and get it. nurse said “what’s mom tweezers?”

A few of them hurt a little but not bad, most ya don’t really even feel.

The sutures mostly weren’t bad but there was 5-6 out of the 40 that sucked

Thanks for the reply Dave that is really helpful. The wife’s have only been in two weeks and not badly imbedded. I think that she would rather not get med up for the little bit of time that there might be pain.

She will be fine.. the remover deal releases the staple and it just pops out.

Not to jump off topic here RD but hows the smoking coming along.
Really hoping this ordeal would get you over it.
Good to see the staples out and the healing process moving forward. Have you started any PT sessions yet?

Hey @RiverDave is this supposed to be a permanent fix or will they go in and remove the screws and plates later?

PT will start in a week and a half.

I bought a vape deal and offset some cigs with it. Tapering back down.

Damn RD, you been taking some hits lately.

Our friends son was throwing up after we left our vacation. I woke up this morning and my stomach was in knots and my skin has that flu feeling. Stacy is a little queezy..

Good thing is whatever it is doesn’t seem to last very long. Less than a day or a day max.

It is going around, my wife missed work all of last week with it. Sore throat, and achy.

Today’s episode of fucked up foot with ole RD. Lol

Freshly unwrapped and out of the splint. They haven’t cleaned it yet and we are waiting on the doc.

With any luck no more splint and we will start PT.

Foot is still swollen. It’s weird seeing my ankle without the bone that sticks out in the outside (one of the things that was broken off.. lol).

Inside of ankle is a little swollen but honestly shit is looking pretty good to me!

See on the outside how it doesn’t stick out where that bone should be?

Still looks swollen to me. Once the swelling is completely down I would think things would look a bit normal.

So just left the doc, and somewhere in all that apparently I missed that we have one more little surgery to go. We have to remove some screw that is currently holding tension on two bones for some tendon.. damnifino.

Long story short PT won’t start until after that.. So two weeks till next surgery, than probably a couple weeks till PT starts etc.

On a positive note he removed the splint and we moved the ankle a little up and down. There was a lot of snap crackle pop noises that were a little unnerving but he said it’s scar tissue etc and normal. Said he was happy because after all that it was moving smooth.

In a boot now, on my way to get my kids and off to mission bay again!

So there are PT type things you can do that don't involve your ankle that you can do to help the recovery process. You can work on your quads and hamstrings to help limit the atrophy in your leg. The stronger the rest of the muscles in your leg are the easier the overall recovery will be.

Off to the last surgery at 6:00 am!

It’s getting better by the day! Honestly from how this looked even a week ago I am pretty happy with it!

Huge progress this week as I finally am getting my toes to wiggle. Was getting worried that when my foot spun around it might have disconnected all that shit permanently. No toe wiggle means it would be very hard to walk in the future so that’s a big deal to me.

Downside is I don’t have any feeling in my whole heel area.. hoping it comes back with time.

I lost the use of my thumb when I shattered my left arm, took about seven months for the sensation to come back and about a year to get the full use of my thumb again. It’s pretty incredible how the human body can heal itself.

Looking a lot better Dave!

Compared to where I was I am pretty stoked. My foot is still swollen quite a bit. Unfortunately it is kicked about 8-10 degrees to the right now so I wouldn’t get lost in the desert with me.. We’d just make big right hand circles. Lol. But I’ll take what I can get.. Other than pressure and some discomfort there isn’t really any pain unless I accidentally bang it into something etc.

I can’t wait to start physical therapy and put this shit behind me.

Your feeling will come back. It will take a long time. Where I circled, you have a lot of nerves going through that area. I had a wreck on one of my bikes back in 2000. I was going around an offramp where a big rig spilled diesel on asphalt. I got thrown into the guard rail and the bike came flying and nailed the inside my right ankle. Didn’t break anything, but I couldn’t feel shit for a long time. It was swollen for a while too. To this day, my right leg below my knee to my ankle swells up at the end of the day.

Good luck this morning! Numbness is probably just a swelling thing, like others have said. At least your foot looks like a foot again. When you start PT, you'll be sore...just the way it is. You haven't been using the muscles much, and now the geometry will be a little different. Slow steps, but steps in the right direction nonetheless.
