Glad to have an option like the 25XS after being on the hunt for a Cole for years. The gauges need a different layout but that's easily done. Interceptor definitely has some solid offerings and going to sell some boats for sure. It would be interesting to know how many people buy a boat from RDP coverage like this. We need a RDP spiff code to get ole RD straight paid $$$$$. I would have not seen or thought about these boats up here in Oregon without RDP

Since they play in similar markets, would you rather have the Rage or the 25XS for a havasu family boat?

Since I'm kinda a fan of Cole Boats I'm curious of two things. I know the 250S World Class is 25' OA, but I believe that includes the built in swim step. My 22' Nighthawk length is 22', not including the bolt-on step. Wondering what the length of the 250S or XS is not including the integral step? I know it's 98" wide, versus 96" for the NH.
Also in Dave's boat show pic and the pic of the XS on Interceptor's site, it appears there's a small step in the bottom that wasn't there prior --- yes ?
Here's a grainy pic of the Interceptor site where it sure appears there's a step.

That's a tough call....

Not sure the price point is the same but here is how I would view both boats.

Rage is rigged better and uses better materials.

Rage is faster

Interceptor will be cheaper

Interceptor looks better

I would prefer a Nordic rigged/built walk through 25xs for Interceptor prices:D

I didn't notice that to be honest.. I'll ask Chris about it and let you know. To my knowledge it's a straight bottom.

Thanks Dave, thought I could see it in the partial side pic of yours as well, that's what caught my eye. What would you guess the nose to transom is, 23' something. By appearances, due to the style, beam and freeboard, it's a larger looking boat than the hawks, but I don't think it's that much longer --- maybe Chris knows ?

IMHO the 25xs by interceptor is not even in the same league as the wtob Nordic Rage. The build quality, features, rigging, speed and customer service are second to none. As RD said earlier, you would be hard pressed to find a better family boat that does it all than the wtob Nordic Rage.

Hey Dave, I dig the photos and boat show review with humorous commentary. I inquired about the 25SX about a month ago and I believe it was Chris I talked to on the phone. The price he quoted was jaw dropping, I mean, that is a lot of boat for little money. I won’t disclose his price he quoted me as any interested member could call him to inquire, but holy smokes, such a deal indeed. The pictures you snapped of it are great quality and I have a question. There appears to be no engine room vents on the transom, just assist handles. It certainly is clean looking but, is it up to the customer to pick a vent style that “squeaks their duck” so to speak? Er???

I have a 2002 Cole 25 and it does have a small step , turns great. I bought mine because of the quality and rigging of old school boats.

I saw Dave at the boat show and he was at the Nordic booth no surprise , but on Daves defense Nordic are building some of the best boats today looking at the details rigging ,service models resale and cost .
And I thank Dave did a great job on showing the good and bad at the boat show.

Thanks, I'd tested one in 98', but couldn't recall it having one, plus it's small so hard to see in the various pics I've seen. Certainly no complaints about the rigging on my NH, but my knowledge of Interceptor is all thanks to RD.

I'm with you, that's seriously old school cool right there and would be a real hoot in the ocean. I see that one's got a stepped hull design, I know the original LS design didn't. Not having followed the evolution of this hull, not sure of the pros and cons etc. and how well the steps work other than a bit more on top.
The LS speedster/ scarab still runs the same bottom as the original, there not a step it’s a rise or notch on the keel . But still a straight bottom , if you google image the boat you’ll see.

Yeah, I think I'm just losing my mind  I see the pics of that boat show model they were testing a few years back, no step, so I must have been thinking of that 25' Interceptor, or not thinking perhaps, lol. Anyway, regardless, that Scarab would be a kick to run out of San Diego or Newport !! But with two outboards, assuming the hull would work, would really be sweet.

Your spot on !! It’s pretty bad ass! I have and original 26 Larry Smith, it’s an awesome boat, mine is the all red one that was for sale a while back , fully balsa cored flat deck . They did do one or two with outboards (race boats ) I’m
So excited for this boat . Classic, and has some amazing history tied to it . Makes me happy to here someone thinks like myself , about how awesome it would be to run in SD or NP.

Late 60's, early 70's had a 17' Formula Jr. (similar to 18' Donzi) with an I/O and 289 Ford. Used to launch that in Newport and do Catalina Isl. runs often. So yeah, seeing that 26' in Dave's report really got the juices flowing again !!

While at the show it sounded like that boat was sold from the talk I overheard. I would love to get a price on this thing if anyone knows. If it’s near 55-60k that sounds like a great deal with the trailer, half caps, 8.2 HO, Livorsi stuff, etc.

One thing I noticed when I was looking for Dave's BS report that showed the Larry Smith Scarab and the 26' RPM Redline. What is the name of that company, do they have a website and what is the method for even contacting them ? All I know is that the LS Scarab is being laid up by Archer Marine. Dave's reporting effort is kinda a moot point with no obvious POC provided.

The name of the company is rpm. Usually I ask them to give their contact info at the end of the video. Not sure Id I did or didn’t on this one video, but his name is Joe Malich and his phone number is 253-606-2816

If you wanted his phone number you could have just asked.. there’s no reason to be rude?

Sorry, rude was no way intentional. If you're referring to the "BS report"? I simply meant boat show report. I think this BS report was the best ever and enjoyed the great commentary and excellent photos. Not only that I was extremely impressed with how quickly you got it all posted for our viewing pleasure.
I was trying to find a web site, checked RPM, Redline, both combined couldn't find anything. I also don't watch all your videos, my hearing isn't great so more often than not I have trouble understanding live videos with background noise. I would however think that Joe, especially considering your thorough coverage would want folks to easily be able to check out his products on the web or at least contact him.
Thanks for the info and again sorry for the misunderstanding.

Yeah well, as much as I didn't even give that a thought when I (mistakenly) used that abbreviation early in the day. The large and growing crowd carrying torches and armed with pitchforks made it glaringly obvious when I returned in the afternoon.

We have like 4 boats at 96% finished, so we had to pass and focus on getting caught up.
We upped our spot for the Spring Havasu show:
287 Party Deck with SxS and Parts (owners company)
26 Cat open bow
23 DECK
23 DECK outboard

Joel sprayed that grey 26 RPM, came out cool. Shocked at the prices. Thanks for the write up dave good work.

Ok waiting to get a couple of answers on the Orange 21 from Shockwave but let’s get started.

This is their 26' Cat / Open Bow!

For this particular boat I really liked the color scheme the owner / Shockwave came up with, and it's one of the better looking boats I think they have put out.

643AD44C-3B61-40E8-B930-AED691403954.jpeg

This isn't technically a "deck" boat, but I like the fact that they put the seadeck / gatorstep on the front. It kind of gives it deckboat functionality / look, but looks better than the traditional "flat" of a deck boat.

7B57EA38-F570-4F80-9648-27A84A0114CF.jpeg

I really like the overall lines of the Shockwave Cat. I believe it shares the same deck lines as the the 25 Tremor and it looks really nice as a closed bow.

First thing looking at the open bow that I notice is the fact that this is a true inner liner boat (which is good). Personally I'm a bit of a "purist" when it comes to lines, so I would've tried to sink the interior below the gunnel line so it looks like a closed bow from the side. I also would've figured out a way to put grab handles internally instead of on the deck. Again these aren't anything "wrong" with the boat, but more of a preference of style.

I know Shockwave uses a firm closed cell foam in their interiors, and many of the owners will tell you that the seats will feel the same and not break down after years of use. For a matter of personal taste I always thought their interiors were more two dimensional which was pretty standard ten years ago. A lot of the boat mfg's have switched over to more of a three dimensional style which is more modern. That can be done with various foam cuts, or in some cases just in the stitching itself. Again there's nothing wrong with the quality of it, I just think it would really update the look of their boats if they started exploring some of those opportunities.

63806CCF-4657-4808-9BB6-7F167F342564.jpeg

Other than that blower hose, the boat looks "high and tight!" Shockwave has really improved their rigging game over the years, and I love the fact that everything is hidden in this boat. One thing that I do know is that they make all of their looms in house, and they try to keep everything uniform (as much as possible) boat to boat, so if there ever is an issue down the road it's easy to track down any gremlins.

2CCEE30E-E88D-4D4F-91B4-70D236E84F1F.jpeg

The rigging is pretty standard on Shockwave's. They aren't DCB's, but they aren't trying to be. They are building a fun and reliable family boat that will provide trouble free good times. Shockwave does offer to finish out the bilge for an up charge, where they will finish the engine bay in gel etc.. Instead of splatter paint.

Even as clean as this build is, one could pretty easily burn up another 7-8,000.00 dollars in finishing, wiring, battery boxes, clamps, lighting etc. To some it's important, to others it isn't. For me for a family boat, this is more than fine for my needs.. I love looking at the baller builds, but not so sure I could ever afford one.

CFACCC4F-E468-45D2-8B04-89FF1476A4F3.jpeg

I thought this was kind of an interesting spot for the battery switch. It's in the gunnel on the starboard side by the rear passenger seat. I don't know if I've been out of the loop, but both Shockwave and Howard have been putting these here now. My only concern with the setup (that I can see in the pics) is if the batteries go truly dead how do you get the hatch open? Several mfg's were putting little "jumper" poles in a hidden spot (usually under the rear seat) so that you could hook a little jump pack to them and get the hatch open. I didn't see them on this boat, but that doesn't mean they weren't there as I didn't pull the cushions and go through every inch of it.

In the bottom of this picture you can see some kind of, what looks to be vinyl piping with an interesting thread pattern on it. I don't recall seeing this anywhere else in the boat. It might have been in the other recesses as well.

86CFABBB-4190-4934-BD97-D05767EB9B11.jpeg

I'm all for cupholders everywhere (especially in my younger years). For my own tastes I think I would've ditched these though and put a peace of Sea Deck up there with that Schultz logo. If I was going to put them in I would've pushed them about a 1/4 inch further forward then they are. If you click and zoom in on the pic, you can see the radius of the dash starts underneath the edge of the cupholder and it leaves a little gap.

D570C030-BCCB-4AF3-A3E2-160F2CDE03C6.jpeg

The one thing I haven't heard a lot of people talk about with regard to the Shockwave Cat is the amount of room in the Cuddy or the closed bow. As you can see it's HUGE! You could do any number of options down here, and Shockwave would be happy to build it for you. I think I'd do one side with drop in coolers and the other side about like this with a TV on the front or rear panel.

BB938131-71DE-4EA4-9196-F5B3D5629047.jpeg

Just looking at the pics it does become apparent though that a young couple could actually overnight in this boat. (Sleeping one per side)

Well there's a bit of a track record of ole Taboma busting my balls on here for no reason.. When I read it, I just kind of assumed he was keeping in theme. :D And of course I keep in my theme of always being polite back. Glad to know I read it wrong.. maybe ole Taboma is starting to warm up to me?
