At the end of the day, Hallett @ Nordic will honor all the 1 year bow to stern warranty items, brought to the shop for repairs.
Any hull issues, via a 7 year hull warranty will have to be processed through the original issuing Hallett warranty company (gut tells me Nordic will assist anyone with that paperwork).

Thane and Randy are stand up guys and will go above and beyond to make things right, however this lady posting that BS comment will most likely not get the service level she wants because she started a shit storm that was not necessary!

Where are you getting this from? Hallett had a warranty company?

Not saying you but it mystifies me that people do not understand that Nordic did not buy "The Hallett Co" but the assets of the company. Nordic has no obligations to the old company. If they want to honor claims up to them.

If I had a large claim against Hallett as a customer or a creditor i would get the paperwork going now.

Does anyone remember that GM and Chrysler also had no obligations to pay warranty claims. The warranty company was you and I.

?Let me say this as plainly as I can. If you buy a car from Chrysler or General Motors, you will be able to get your car serviced and repaired just like always,? Obama said in a speech today. ?Your warranty will be safe. In fact, it will be safer than it has ever been. Because starting today, the United States will stand behind your warranty.?

All depends on whatever agreement was made between hallett and Nordic. Sometimes assests as well as liabilities are transferred in a sale, other times not.
In a BK situation like GM those liabilites get lost.
However, I, as a dealer had to take on the liabilites of factory warranties that my manufacturer(GM/Saab) filed BK on. California law, not all states follow that requirement.

As we do not know it would be very unlikely that Nordic would assume those liabilities.

I believe my 255 was built just before this 255 with "warranty " issues. I've had no problems with mine.

Great letter:)

If Nordic had any intentions of writing a similar letter they would have done so in the press release.

Posted on September 8, 2017 by Hallett BoatsAs of September 7, 2017, an agreement was reached that Nordic Boats has purchased all assets of Hallett Boats effectively immediately. Hallett Boats will no longer operate from its Azusa, CA headquarters. All future sales, manufacturing, and service of Hallett Boats will be done at the Nordic Boats headquarters in Lake Havasu, AZ. All new Hallett Boats presently under construction will be completed at Nordic Boats.
Thank you to all our loyal Hallett customers for the opportunity to serve your boating needs for over six decades. We’re confident that Nordic will continue to produce and service Hallett Boats with the same high level of quality, workmanship, integrity and customer satisfaction that has made Hallett an iconic brand for more than a half century.
Please direct inquiries regarding Hallett Boats to the Nordic factory at 928-855-7420.

Agreed, Unless there is some sort of agreement or fund put in place for it.......or simply case by case goodwill customer service by Nordic.

It would also be interesting to know who they bought the assets from. Looking at the California Corporation commission site I do not see an active Hallett Boats entity after 8/17/2017.

Looks like the family started a new LLC in 2015

Chick is mental and needs to find something better to do with her time.....If I was Mike I would boot her from the page

She sounds like she might of had a relationship with the son and is upset at the transition? Why cause issues on a boat that you aren't having an issue on?

find a local resource to handle warranty because it's inconvenient...lol

I could care less actually. We know who the players are from the retail side of it all. LLCs are just protective shields. I'm sure there's been months of legalese before the announcement. Could be the actual sale occured in mid-august when the LLC quit being active.
I did a buy/sell of my BMW franchise, it didn't happen overnight.

I just read those FB comments and think WTF....:p

The acquiring company has no obligation to honor the liabilities of the acquired company in an asset sale unless there was an agreement to do so in the sale. Unfortunately that is what happens when a company is sold in this manner. People just need to accept that and move on. Its UNFORTUNATE for those involved but it is what it is.

For a Hallett owner to call out Nordic boats for a warranty that they are not contractually or legally required to provide is completely out of line. It makes Nordic look like the bad guy when they are clearly not.

If there was a problem it would be nice if they helped out but they are under no obligation to do so.

Then you get the merry band of dipshits piling on. Typical online B.S. smearing the good reputation of a good company like Nordic with online drama and drivel. :thumbsdown

It is probably just a misunderstanding but to besmirch Nordic boats is really uncalled for...:thumbsdown

It was immediate upon closing of the deal.. Nordic immediately started loading trucks with tooling last week.

It is unpossible that any dealings were done before that in private without all Hallett boat owners approval and without notification and public comment periods on FB, RiverWhips and RDP.

Has anyone ever seen the Hallett Electric Boat??? Unless you've been to their showroom that was located off the 605 freeway and seen this for yourself it's not possible is it??? I thought I was having a 70's flashback when I first saw The Hallet Player Electric Boat and said to myself, how are they going to compete against Duffy. Most don't even know these things existed, a real rarity for sure...

A newcomer to the electric boating market, this is certainly the slowest Hallett boat ever built, and probably by more than 60 miles per hour! A legendary builder of high performance sportboats, Hallett answered the call for an environmentally compatible cruiser for lakes, rivers and harbors with the Player.

At just over 20 feet, the Player has a pair of bench seats to port and starboard, another behind the helm, and a surrey top with an acrylic windshield. A wet bar with icebox underneath is to port, a fiberglass table is amidships, and drink holders abound.

Power for the Player comes from a 36-volt or 48-volt high output electric motor with 6-, 8- or 12- 6 volt batteries. With a weight of 1840 pounds and a beam of 7 feet 10 inches, the Player is easily trailered.

If they only bought the assets of the company then how are they able to use the hallet name? The name is not a tangible asset. The name is the company. So if Nordic didnt buy the company which they would also be on the hook for their liabilities then that means SOMEONE still owns the name. I would really like to see this deal on paper. Many times in deals of this nature that i have been a part of the purchased company seizes to exhist. If thats the case I wonder why one of the guys screwed over from the sale of the company. I heard jerry barron was this guy. Why doesnt he rekindle the name find a couple investors and rebuild Hallett with our man GC spraying.

Everything is speculation....and company sales of all types are pretty unique in each situation.

Just like the new Tahiti boats isnt the same as the OLD Tahiti boats.

Hallett Custom Boat company can be picked up...invested in...and restarted under the same builders that have always made Hallett what it is. How hard would it be to make a new mold for the 255 270 and 300. Im sure there are some BIG money hallett owners that would be willing to invest?

Rich Hallett was the man behind the name. In his later years he had a shop off Firestone Blvd. in Downey Ca. I had Rich do several repairs for me back in the day and on occasion I'd meet him for breakfast on Saturday mornings. If your ever at the NHRA Museum in Pomona and look real hard at some of those old racing articles you may see a picture of Rich and his name mentioned in several of those articles. Talent has no boundaries and it goes where ever you go...

Common business sense. I don't know anything about this deal

I still was able to graduated from business school despite owning a boat and drinking beers throughout :p

That's just common business sense. No need for knowledge of this exact sale to make those assumptions.

No the name is IP.(brand name) Sure the corporation can own it but IP can be sold.

Whomever is the legal owner of the IP can do with it as they see fit

It's conceivable that the corporation who owns the IP can strike a deal to sell the name.

No one else can just pick the name since its IP. The legal owner could sue.

When one buys a company as an asset purchase as opposed to a stock purchase, they buy what they negotiate to buy including both tangible as well as intangible assets.

For example, if you buy the assets of a profitable company you are going to pay a value above the simple value of the tangible assets and that is an intangible asset known as goodwill.

If I am a buyer, I want to allocate as much as I can to the tangible assets so that I can depreciate them and as little as possible to the intangible assets. But none the less, in an asset purchase, you can and do buy both tangible and intangible assets.

Hallett technically wasn't Hallett. But Barron boats. Unless I'm wrong on that. Hallett was just the name

This is a good example where the name of the entity is not the same as the brand name. In either event, buying the intangible brand name is an asset that can be purchased if the buyer and seller agrees that it has value.

People are looking into this deal as if it was a craigslist purchase. Randy is a hell of a businessman with a what I'm sure is a great legal team. I am sure everything you guys are bickering over was handled and covered. Who cares if he bought Barron boats or hallett, what assets were or were not included, who cares what legally
He has to warranty, he's not going to burn bridges and turn away potential customers. The details are no ones business but his and Nick's widows. I would assume all boat warranty items are case by case, and that chic on Facebook probably has no real issues so why would they waste time or burn her right off the bat.

This is not the first company Randy has purchased. The guy has a small empire and continues to be successful. It's amazing how negative some of the comments in this thread have been. So much speculation. It's been a week. Let shit play out.

The 27,and 34 were Silverwings. Up until 86 or 87 Silverwing was a company.

Bud was at Campbell, Spectra, Silverwing, and then Hallett.

Yes, I know how an "asset purchase" works, but if you read River Dave's article Randy Davis indicated that he will continue to build Halletts under the Hallett name which indicates a "company purchase" in lieu of an "asset purchase." And while many here have said, each deal is different, with most "company purchases" you accept the liabilities (which would include warranty work" as well as the assets of the company.

Now if one girl is FB posting that she talked to Nordic personal and they do not plan on doing any needed warranty work on Halletts that would have some concern. Why would one continue to build new Halletts if you had some transitional boats that may (or may not) have issues (I would lean towards may not)? That would be a not smart business move and we all know based on past transactions that Randy does have a good business sense.

So again, one girl posts her "conversation" with Nordic and everyone goes on the attack. I'm not saying she is right, I don't know her or know what happened but I would tend to lean towards her direction over the "I know Nordic and that would never happen" type of argument. For those that commented and personally know the Nordic personal why not simply call them and ask what there plans are in this regard and present a same or different report here instead of lashing out on one persons post of a conversation?

Whether the Hallett boat owners like it or not, Barron boats quit on their customers, plain and simple. Be it a biz decision or otherwise it's a simple fact.
Let the dust settle and give Nordic the time to complete the transition and reignite everyones passion for Hallett boats.

Yessir.

Peeps ought to at least be HAPPY Hallett sold and didn't just take a sawzall to the rest of their molds and fold up overnight and be done by the next morning. It was pretty obvious changes were coming with the passing of Mr. Barron, the sale of the building of the 605, Travis himself heading to Nordic, I mean Ray Charles saw changes coming.

Maybe so, don't own a Hallett and never been to their regatta.

But I am sure none of them are sitting around their stacks all sad about it. :)

At what point was silver wing a company or were they merged with hallett? The old silver wing 27's were the first 270's.

The Lemke's (sp?) who started Silverwing, (and Arizona Speed and Marine too?) died in a car crash on their way to a boat race in norcal if i remember correctly, Father and son? After that Barron picked up the molds 270 and 340, which were called a 2027 and 2034 by Silverwing, and that is where he got his start with Bud Bailey (when Spectra went defunct right around the same time) and they built the rest of the iconic "Hallett" models that really where the backbone of the brand, and everyone is so familiar with.

That was wayyyy before my time i was only born in 84, but my good friends the Miller's from All Seasons marine were close with the Lemke's through 80s racing, and that is the the cliff notes of the story as i remember them. TwoCents would know the accurate details to how that all worked out, so don't quote me on that.

Jstnoc on the boards has the original 2034 silverwing with Brummett motors that originally belonged to Jerry Herbst.
