That’s how I was a few years back I deleted Facebook, and instagram I was going down a rabbit hole on both apps. Always saw someone with something better was never content with what I had I was my worst enemy lol. I spent to much time on those apps. I enjoyed social media I still do. I don’t knock it from the people who use it. I just couldn’t get off I’d be on it for hours daily. What I miss about it is keeping up with everyone I enjoyed seeing my friends on vacations with their family’s or just a nice day out when they post. What I don’t miss about it is everyone portraying the perfect life’s like none of us have issues. I do think Tik tok will be back. And if it’s not there will be another app like it. Alot of people made a lot of money off of it, musicians were established on that app, I don’t like to see anyone lose their source of income so I feel bad for alot of people. Tok tok was great for certain industries of business as well.
I don't work anymore so no need to waste 12 hours a day lol. I liked tik tok the best for sure, i still have FB, mainly for marketplace, but not for long.

This is a legit question, no one has attempted to answer. (Is there anyone else besides @SKIDMARC fans of the platform?)

I have never purposely watched anything on that platform. What is the draw? Why should I care if it goes away forever?

If you’re someone that was distraught that tik tok got shut down, it’s probably a very good thing for you that it did get shut down.

I erased Facebook from my phone last week, and found myself so much more productive and finishing projects that were sidelined. Now, I’m reading and doing research when I was wasting time on that app.

At this point, I’d be happy to rewind everything back to the 80’s.
I remember i once asked my grandkids “you have the knowledge of the universe in your hand…and you spend your time throwing angry birds at things?”

But for me the concern (or lack thereof) is primarily the data harvesting.
No one seems to care…at least until their identity and PII is stolen then used to buy a house or truck in their name, which is also stolen.
People load their devices up with social app after social app, then wonder how their email gets hacked, and all their contacts are compromised, or their business accounts start making payouts, and their credit cards start ringing up.
Or at the minimum at least 90% of all their correspondence becomes solicitations.
Many sites are accessible without using their app.
Apps are convenient and typically free for a reason.
Their sole purpose is to data mine.
Be it malicious or non malicious.
Hell, there is even apps to consolidate other apps. Lol
Makes it even easier to harvest your shit.
And people willing install them and click “I Agree”…🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️😂😂

I’m 44 not sure if that’s young although I feel young.. Probably so compared to RDP members?

Didn’t see an age poll. Haven’t been on RDP much. Too much politics.

Liked the app because it feeds topics I mostly enjoy. None political and light hearted . Topics that take me away from the grind of my profession. Which I love but it can be consuming.

I guess at the end of the day we all need an escape. At least for me somewhere we can go at the end of the day to get our minds off of things we deal with every day that are much more serious that the topics of the videos we watch.

RDP “used” to be that place for me.

Did you use company communication devices for your TT app or usage? If so and you have also used that for communication with "clients" their info is probably compromised as well as your company.

It was a source of promotion for my wife’s company so that’s a bummer, but weighed against National security concerns? Should have been done much sooner.

I’d probably lose my job if I had it downloaded on my company device(s). My organization was very strong worded about not using the app on company devices.

THANK YOU!!!!!! You do not know how difficult it was for me not to quote about 5 people on here and make them wear the dunce cap while writing "I couldn't care less" 500 times on the chalkboard. You're my hero today. ❤️
Or perhaps they “could care less” but don’t care to? 🤣

There are 3-5 people that HAVE TO reply to nearly every single thread. It’s wild.
This made me curious so I looked at it a little closer.
On my front page there are 50 threads.
I’ve posted in 8 of them…but four of them are “archive” threads or old threads that are ongoing, it’s been months or longer since Ive posted in them.
So that makes 4 out of 50 current front page threads that I’ve posted in.
That’s 8% I think?
(Shintooo can check my math)
I was very relieved to see that my habit is no where close to the “nearly every single thread” you described! 😎😎👌
So who are you referring to?🤷🏼‍♂️

I don’t have tik tok. I used to watch videos my wife would send me but I can’t anymore. Says I need to download tik tok or something. Is there a way around that?

Was not directed towards you. It’s pretty obvious who those people are.

I'm like MEH on whether it goes away for good.

I've had FB continuously since 2009. I don't use it much, but I enjoy using it to keep in touch with childhood, HS friends, old neighbors and relatives overseas. I also use it for FB marketplace. I've never understood how/why people go offf the deep end over it. But I'll say this - I'm glad IG and Tik Tok splashed onto the scene as the true post whores transitioned to those platforms. Made everyday FB more tolerable.

Like several others, I too do not like the influence TT exerts over young people. Unless you have a young adult or teen growing up right now, you most likely do not understand the brainwashing that takes place on the app.

And I'm pretty sure the fucctards stuck at signals after the light turns green is because they are on TT. texting has been around for years, but people not paying attention while driving seems to have escalated at about teh same time TT became super popular.

My daughter was bummed about it going away, and now she's even more pissed that Trump will be the "white Knight" that brings it back. LOL LOL

The CCP bans the use of just about all US based social media programs in China including Facebook, Google and others. The CCP has control over Byte Dance, the owner of Tik Tok.

Why the hell is this even open for debate while the CCP controls Tik Tok? Let’s just let them openly spy on us while denying our social media companies access to their market solely for censorship. Can’t even believe supposed intelligent minds are debating this.

Sever the CCP ties or close it down, simple as that.

The latest proposal is for the US government to invest into it.

I've never used TT.
But if one less kid runs into me while looking at their cell instead of where they are walking im glad it's gone.

Truth is it will just get replaced by another app.

I’ve learned to let that one go.
Lately it’s the “to, too, two” dilemma that has me twisted up…
The improper use of then/than and they're/their/there drive me batty. I'm no scholar by any stretch but I do have pride in my written words conveying a properly executed message.

The single worst technology feature for society ever created is the camera on your phone.

I’d say the single worst technology today is the world war machine. Not the technology associated with it.

All the camera does is document the destruction of the world. It doesn’t change anything or promote anything.
Before tac-toc there were magazines and books ….. published in the underground.

Yeah, my company phone, iPad, and laptop are banned from any social media site. I also receive phishing emails. When I report them regularly it's a congrats and I get left alone for a month. They sent a good one where I got popped, and boom automatic email, and complete retraining within 72 hours. That being said I can spot those phishing emails immediately.

Every year we received updated CBT training, in the corporate world.

No longer can you walk into a job, without a bunch of training, that has nothing to do with your job, and everything to do about the failures in the IT world. 😉

It’s the average worker that should be making $250k a year, not the shitty IT administrators we have today.

If I was a CEO, and saw this bullshit, I’d tear IT a new asshole. 🤠

I actually agree with it, even though I'm just a field guy. I do receive a lot of emails from sales reps and contractors. You never know if they have been breached.

The training is simple really, and I don't have to retrain if I notice phishing e-mails or report some as suspicious. IT will reply to suspicious ones and either let me know that they were legit or not legit.

Simply saying IT is letting bullshit into the company. There software should be able to handle it. So they pass it off on a person that’s career is not in security/IT, and then fire that person, for nothing that has to do with their career.
